WORLD DAY OF PRAYER FOR VOCATIONS

The Fourth Sunday of Easter - May 12, 2019 - Christians are invited to reflect on the meaning of God’s call and to prayer for vocations. Christ, the Good Shepherd, continues to lead his people through His Bishops, Priests, and Deacons, religious Brothers and Sisters. We should be praying for vocations constantly and families should speak with their children about the noble nature of these calls to service in the Church.

CANADA HEALTH DAY - MAY 12

Canada Health Day is celebrated in health care facilities and community services across the country.

This day reminds us that health and healing are essential aspects of our baptismal vocation. We are also called to take responsibility for our personal health: to prevent illness and to seek a healthy lifestyle. Good health concerns the physical, emotional, social and spiritual health of our communities, respect for God’s creatures and the nurturing of the whole earth. p.224 Canadian Ordo

MOTHERS DAY NOVENA CARDS

Mother’s Day Novena Cards are available at the church entrance today. We have marked off nine Masses – between Mother’s Day Sunday and into the week – that will be celebrated for all mothers, living and deceased. If you would like to include your mother (living or deceased) in this intention you may use the card to give to your mother as a Mother’s Day gift. Please

remember to fill out her name on the donation envelope and drop it in the collection basket.

May 12, 2019 is Mother’s Day. We begin our nine day Novena of Masses for mothers, living and deceased.

Abbiamo delle cartoline per la Novena per la Festa delle Mamme. Celebreremo nove Sante Messe per le mamme. Se si desidera includere il nome della mamma (viva o defunta) per questa intenzione, si prega di utilizzare la cartolina per dare un regalo alla mamma. Vi chiediamo gentilmente di preparare i nomi delle mamme vive o defunti sulla busta apposita per la vostra offerta. Poi si mette nel cestino in qualunque domenica.

La Festa delle Mamme si celebra il 12 maggio. Offriremo una novena di Sante Messe in questi giorni della novena per le mamme vive e defunte.

CATHOLIC EDUCATION WEEK 2019

Catholic Education Week 2019 begins on Sunday, May 5. The Catholic schools in our parish will engage in a series of events to celebrate the ongoing gift of publicly funded Catholic education. You are invited to discover what celebrations are happening in your children’s school and if possible, attend. Publicly funded Catholic education has existed in Ontario since 1841 and its graduates have served Ontario and Canada very well. The current generation of students in our publicly funded Catholic schools will serve with the same spirit and generosity as their previous generations.

This year’s Catholic Education Week theme is “Living as Joyful Disciples.” The 2019 CEW theme was inspired by three sources: Renewing the Promise, The Pastoral Letter on Catholic Education from the Bishops of Ontario; Gaudete et exsultate, the Apostolic Exhortation of Pope Francis on the Call to Holiness; and Young People, the Faith and Vocational Discernment, the October 2018 Synod of Bishops. Mindful of the Synod on Youth, the theme and sub-themes are very much directed to the young people in our schools, especially in their growth in holiness and their formation as disciples of Christ through the discernment of their vocational pathways. In the section of Renewing the Promise entitled, “A Community that Forms Joyful Disciples,” we read, “Our Catholic schools help to form joyful disciples as hearts and minds are opened to the transforming love of God and to the flame of faith in action. On a daily basis, Catholic schools demonstrate the joy of believing and witness the Good News to the communities that they serve.”
