PHOTO CONNOTATIONS.

LoveBoth of these images represent the theme of love. The first image shows a strong connotation of this because we can visually see two people physically in contact. The fact the photograph was taken at a side angle links to the theme of love as we cant see their faces, just their body language; so it proves that love isn’t just about what you see.The shot of the image is mid; this was a relatively good shot to use to represent the image because you can see the subjects body languages fully, and they are clearly the centre piece. This image could also however represent friendship, for the same reasons as above.

FearThis image represents the theme of fear. I decided to use a high angle for this image, as it shows a strong implication that the subject is weak and naïve. The image purposely isnt a wide shot, as this would effect the atmospheric atmosphere and what was making her fearful. The body language allow us to straight away interpret that she is scared, and to us as an audience there is something unknown and distressing in front of her.

DesireThis image represents desire. We chose to show this via the image of trophies as it can link to having the desire to win/be the best. In the image you can see we have used a side on shot which is also close up; meaning the photo isn’t just subjected and focused on the one single trophy, there is many around it; however, the main focus is purposely the gold trophie, as this is typically what somebody would aim for.We didn’t use flash in this image, as too much light reflection would effect the image; and the main subject wouldn’t be fully visible.

DangerThis image represents danger. The light contrast is intentionally very high; as it represents how danger can be seen as a very quick thing ( a danger could turn bad in the blink of an eye)The photograph is taken in a medium shot; this way we can see the whole car, and get the full effect of its movement. This not only adds the danger aspect as it shows speed, it also allows us to interperate how danger can very quickly flash past and effect somebody.

WeaknessThis image was captured to represent weakness. It shows somebody giving into very common temptation, which can show weakness and naivety. The shot shows a Low medium shot, only showing his lower body and the main feature of the image which is the no entry sign. We decided to take the image in this shot because it shows surrounding features such as stairs, a fire alarm and the restriction chain. The belittled quality of the fire escape sign was intentional, as it represents a flustered atmosphere which somebody would be feeling when doing something you were not supposed to.

PurityI’ve chosen this image to represent purity because it is a natural mid shot of a young, innocent girl. Her white jumper is the main subject, which typically represents purity. The angle of the image also represents purity, as it isn’t forced and is very natural; so there is no emphasis on any feature apart from the subject.

Loneliness. This image represents loneliness. The photograph is taken in quite a far back shot, which shows an aspect of surroundings. This adds to the theme because you can genuinely see there is nobody around the subject. The lighting is genuinely quite naturally dull; this however impacts the atmosphere of sadness which is closely linked with loneliness.

Greed. This image indirectly represents greed. When you first view the image, the body language of the subject could be mistaken for hunger, poverty or underprivileged. However, his clothing and bag show he is in no position to hope, and simply wants everything. The shot is angled slightly, this can represent the idea of greed in the sense its unbalanced, and all will never be enough for one who desires everything when there are people with very little. The image shows a contrast of light to dark, as beyond the shutter the canteen is very lighted, this represents the happiness the subject will be feeling when he gets what he wants.
