Immanuel Lutheran School—Weekly Newsletter—October 9, 2014—Page 1 The Wolf’s howl October 9, 2014 “GOD KNOWS YOUR NAME”, John 10:3 FROM THE PRINCIPAL’S PEN… Two weeks ago, I shared with those in our chapel service a special story, and I feel that it is very appropriate for all to hear. The story begins with an old woman who had just been diag- nosed with terminal cancer. The wom- an had been told by her doctor that she should make final preparations be- cause she only had a short time to live. In preparing she asked her pastor to visit her so that she could make the ap- propriate prepara- tions for her funer- al. After discussing the hymns she would like and the Scripture passages she would have shared, the pastor prepared to leave. Suddenly the wom- an raised herself up and said, “One more thing. I want to be buried with a fork in my hand.” The pastor did not know what to say. No one had ever made such a request before. So she explained, “In all my years going to church functions, my favorite part was when whoever was cleaning dishes off the table would lean over and say, ‘You can keep your fork.’ It was my favorite part because I knew that it meant something better was coming. So I just want people to see me there in my casket with a fork in my hand, and I want them to wonder, "What’s with the fork!" Then I want you to say to them, ‘Something better is com- ing! Keep your fork!’” What a marvelous witness this woman would be to all who came to her funeral. So often we get caught up in the many issues that confront us each and every day. We get bogged down in the decisions that need to be made, the conflicts with others, and our many cares. For a Christian it is easy to look beyond these many things and keep in mind the words of St. Paul, “For I long to depart and be with Christ, for that is far better.” (Phil 1:23) Jesus urges us to bring all of our cares and concerns and lay them at the foot of the cross. He reach- es into our lives and lifts the burdens from our shoulders. Through the work of Jesus Christ we can stand in the hope purchased with His blood. So as you approach the meat and potato issues of your life this week remember that Christ tells us, “Keep your fork”. The best is yet to come. There is NO SCHOOL on Friday, October 10th or on Monday, October 13th! Have a nice loooooong weekend!

FROM THE PRINCIPAL’S PEN… Two weeks ago, I shared with those in our chapel service a special story, and I feel that it is very appropriate for all to hear. The story begins with an old woman who had just been diag-nosed with terminal cancer. The wom-an had been told by her doctor that she should make final preparations be-cause she only had a short time to live. In preparing she asked her pastor to visit her so that she could make the ap-propriate prepara- tions for her funer-al. After discussing the hymns she would like and the Scripture passages she would have shared, the pastor prepared to leave. Suddenly the wom-an raised herself up and said, “One more thing. So I just want people to see me there in my casket with a fork in my hand, and I want them to wonder, "What’s with the fork!" Then I want you to say to them, ‘Something better is com-ing! Keep your fork!’” What a marvelous witness this woman would be to all who came to her funeral. So often we get caught up in the many issues that confront us each and every day. We get bogged down in the decisions that need to be made, the conflicts with others, and our many cares. For a Christian it is easy to look beyond these many things and keep in mind the words

of St. Paul, “For I long to depart and be with Christ, for that is far better.” (Phil 1:23) Jesus urges us to bring all of our cares and concerns and lay them at the foot of the cross. He reach-es into our lives and lifts the burdens from our shoulders. Through the work of Jesus Christ we can stand in the hope purchased with His blood. that the BoxTops For Education Program provides

cash for use by both the school and PTO. The PTO receives the first $500.00 every year from this program. This program sends a check 2 times a year. The first submission deadline is October 31st and we receive a check in the month of December. The second submission deadline is Feb 28th and we receive a check in the month of April. Last year we received $782.50. Over the life of this program we have earned over $10,000.00. Simply look for and clip BoxTops from one of the hundreds of participating products and send them to school. Sign up at http://www.boxtops4education.com for up to date infor-mation and bonus opportunities. The goal for this year is to submit and receive at least $1000.00. Our second grade teacher, Mrs. Beaudoin is coordinating an incentive program with the various classrooms, so it will be especially important that each classroom clearly label

their BoxTop submissions. The grade with the highest number of box tops by October 17th will win a prize.
