What are digital leaders?

A small group of pupils, who work with the Computing Subject Leader to promote and help give direction to computing

within the wider school community.

Their role is very much defined by you and by your school, but they may be responsible for:

★ Researching new software and ideas for learning. ★ Running workshops for teachers. ★ Running workshops for parents.★ Running an ICT club for younger children. ★ Maintaining the school website or blog. ★ Helping teachers with simple technical problems. ★ Being responsible for simple technical set ups.

How will they benefit?

This will depend on your school, but the benefits for them could be:

★ The option to wear something that identifies them as a digital leader, for example a badge, lanyard or different colour jumper.

★ A weekly club specifically for your digital leaders, where you are able to teach them new skills that they need and ensure that they are competent enough to complete the roles and responsibilities that you have set them.

★ That they will get to go on specific trips to technological fairs, visits to inspiring workplaces or to other schools.

★ That being a digital leader will look really great on any secondary school application forms that they need to fill in.

This will depend on how you decide to run your digital leaders, but the benefits will include:

★ A pupil voice on your side, which can be very powerful when trying to persuade Head Teachers and governors that your school needs to purchase or do something.

★ They will teach you lots of things that you need to know.★ They can help you support other staff members, with training or with

simple technical issues.★ You will have an inside view on lots of classrooms and the learning that

takes place in them.★ You can use them to support less confident/IT literate teachers.★ They will be a fountain of knowledge and new ideas.
