The Water mes Dirtier and Dirtier
At the same time that Adenauer's personal secretary of
state, Clobke, was playing Father Christmas for Bonn
orphans - not far from Bonn, in Cologne, synagogues were
being besmirched with swastikas and anti-Semitic slogans.
The perpetrators were two young fellows, members of the
fascist German Reich Party (DRP). They were the culprits,
they executed the deed, but were they alone to blame?
The chief culprit, Arnold Strunk, was born in 1934.
When Hitlerite fascism in Germany was destroyed Arnold
Strunk was 11 years old. Thus he could not have carried
anti-Semitism all that time in his head.
But for the next 14 years, until that Christmas Eve in
1959 when he wrote "Perish the Jews!" on the Cologne
synagogue, he had lived in Western Germany. In that
period his thoughts had developed. What he had learned
in school in the state between the Rhine and the Elbe, what
he read in pamphlets and newspapers, what he saw in the
cinema and heard on the radio poisoned his mind. The
result was that infamous action in Cologne.
If the dragon seeds of anti-Semitism bring forth fruit
today in Western Germany the blame rests with the Bonn
state, on its educational system, on its government.
Cologne was only the beginning. In the days and weeks
which followed the dirty anti-Semitic wave flooded the
whole of Western Germany. After Cologne came Braun¬
schweig, Offenbach, Gelsenkirchen, Kitzingen, Gottingen,
Wurzburg, Kiel, Diisseldorf, Hamburg, Dortmund, Nurem¬
berg, Hannover - nearly all the large cities and
innumerable small towns and communities in Western
Germany were gripped by this wave of anti-Semitism. The
police in West Berlin registered (according to an official
announcement of the internal committee of the West
Berlin legislative assembly) about 40 anti-Semitic incidents
in the period from January 2nd to 7th 1960 alone. During
the same period anti-Semitic excesses took place in
several West European countries.
Is it not reasonable to suppose that this anti-Semitic
wave was organized? And, in fact, from where it began,
namely from the soil of Western Germany?

"We need a 'national' wave"
Arnold Strunk will not be able to give us an answer to
this question. He was a tool, he was seduced into this.
Those who pulled the strings, the organizers of this anti-
Semitic campaign, are in high places and in the top
functions of the government of the Adenauer state. They
are in the "Ministry of Defence” of Herr Strauss and in
his "Office of Psychological Warfare”.
War Minister Strauss declared at the meeting of the
NATO Council in December 1959 in Paris: "The cold war
will not end . . . There is no spirit of Camp David. This
expression, 'spirit of Camp David’, has become a com¬
munist propaganda trick the aim of which is the
liquidation of the cold war.” A confidential information
report of the Ministry of the Interior of the province of
Hesse in Western Germany indicates that on December
18th 1959 — that is, six days before the anti-Semitic wave
began - a discussion by specialists of the Bonn Office of
Psychological Warfare was held. At this meeting Major
Fred Sagner, who is directly subordinate to Minister
Strauss, drew the following conclusion:
"Minister Strauss gave us the cue in his Paris
speech . . It was now finally necessary "to strike a
stronger tone. We must finish with weakness and soft
people.” Even if it did not please some people abroad.
“We can no longer take that into consideration. We need
a national wave.”
Besmirched on Christmas Eve: the Cologne synagogue
And the "national (read anti-Semitic) wave” came. Six
days later it began in Cologne and it spread with alarming
rapidity throughout the whole of Germany. Who can there¬
fore speak of "chance” or of individual aberrations as the
press faithful to the West German state did? This was a
carefully prepared campaign such as the accursed
practices of Goebbels, Goring and Himmler of which
millions of people still have frightful memories.
And Bonn Minister Strauss gave the cue for it . . .
He fired the starting gun: War Minister Struuss

Hitler’s "people's courts", Taubert shares responsibility
for many death sentences against German and foreign
resistance fighters. This Goebbels-like master pupil of
anti-Semitism, this eternal nazi, Dr. Eberhard Taubert, is
today head of the political department of the Bonn Office
of Psychological Warfare.
Organizer of Anti-Semitism
But Taubert is by no means the only prominent nazi and
sworn anti-Semite who, in the era of Chancellor Adenauer,
has again been made respectable Dr. Hans Globke, that
friendly old gentleman who on December 24th 1959 played
Father Christmas to the Bonn orphans, was the ill-famed
commentator of the "Nuremberg Laws”. During the
frightful rule of fascism he prepared ideologically and
justified legally the murder of six million Jews. From the
pen of Globke came these words, written in 1935:
"Judaism forms an alien body in all European
countries ... In his blood and essence the Jew is com¬
pletely foreign to us. Therefore dissolution is the only
possible solution.”
Globke's former chief, nazi Minister of the Interior
Dr. Frick, was executed in Nuremberg in 1945 as a war
criminal. Globke himself is today secretary of state and
personal adviser to his new chief, Dr. Konrad Adenauer...
Theodor Oberlander, active nazi, continues to act as the
Federal Chancellor’s advisor on "eastern questions",
although the West German government was compelled to
remove him from his post as "Minister for Re-settlers”,
which he had held since 1953. Adenauer was forced to
take this step because in the spring of 1960 the Supreme
Court of the German Democratic Republic condemned
Oberlander to life imprisonment with hard labour for
incitement to murder and participation in the murder of
Jews.
Oberlander took part in the Hitlerite putsch in 1923 and
was therefore one of the original nazis.
SA Hauptsturmfuhrer, Gau office director, provincial
director of the so-called "Folk League for Germans
Abroad" (the international fifth column of German
fascism), Hitler’s Reich Leader of the League of the
German East - those were the posts held by Oberlander.
But even more - from authentic documents it is evident
that Oberlander played a role in the "Gleiwitz Action”,
with which Hitler prepared the attack on Poland in 1939.
The book published in February 1960 by the Committee for
German Unity, “Die Wahrheit iiber Oberlander” (The
Truth about Oberlander), proves, on the basis of 50 photo-

articles from the nazi period as well as 28 depositions from
Polish, Soviet, German and Israel citizens, the serious
complicity of the present Adenauer advisor in the fascist
massacre of Jews in Lvov.
When the former nazi "Fiihrungsoffizier” Oberlander
advanced to the rank of Minister in the West German
state in 1953 he filled a number of important posts with
old friends from the League of the German East. They still
occupy these posts and are propagating a new "drive to
the East". Oberlander himself has had to relinquish his
post in face of world protest, but he remains chairman of
a group of revanchist functionaries in the CDU (Christian
Democratic Union) and member of the West German
Federal Parliament.
The "models" remain behind the scenes
Young people need human models. But whom does
Bonn give them as models worthy of imitation? Ober-
Idnder, Globke and Taubert, the persecutors of the Jews;
the former SA-man and present Minister of the Interior,
Schroder; the Hitler-serving General Speidel who deliver¬
ed thousands of French patriots to the knife and who
today is Bonn's representative in NATO headquarters?
It is a fact that today in Western Germany and West
Berlin there are 1,250 fascist and militarist organizations,
including more than 40 SS associations; that the West
German army is commanded by 130 generals and admirals
all of whom held leading positions in Hitler's Wehrmacht;
that the West German and West Berlin police are oper¬
ated by former SA and SS leaders; that 85% of the
officials in the Bonn foreign ministry and embassies were
nazi diplomats; that there are 1000 nazi judges and
prosecuting attorneys in the West German courts who
pronounced death sentences against countless anti¬
fascists and Jews; that in 90 % of all West German
schools the Jewish pogroms and mass murders in the
fascist concentration camps are passed over in silence.
Those are irrefutable facts.

Fact: 1,250 fascist and militarist organizations operate in
West Germany and West Berlin

"One should look carefully behind the scenes", wrote
the West German newspaper "Hanauer Anzeiger". "Whom
may we not discover there! Most certainly people who,
in the Hitler regime, occupied high positions and who in
words and writing inveighed against the Jews and
favoured their annihilation."
The Paris newspaper "L'Aurore” is 100 % right when it
demands that "we must go higher and seek those respon¬
sible among the high officials."
If the pernicious influence from above were to stop, it
would also foster a halt below. The pernicious influence
from above, from the old and new nazis in Bonn who
again artificially cultivate chauvinism and race hatred -
that is the source from which sprang that dirty brown wave
of anti-Semitism in Western Germany. This wave must be
halted, the war criminals and active nazis must entirely
disappear from all parts of the Adenauer state.
"If (in Western Germany - author) all important
positions were occupied by opponents of the Hitler
regime, the survivors would never need to mourn their
desecrated dead . . wrote the newspaper "Judisches
Gemeindeblatt" in Diisseldorf, Western Germany, already
on August 25th 1948.
Twelve years ago! The responsible politicians in Western
Germany have had twelve years since then to implement
the four-power Potsdam Agreement, to root out nazism
and militarism and to democratize Western Germany.
History is an inexorable judge. Its judgment on the
rule of the Adenauer government runs as follows: This
regime has never at any time had any serious intention
of breaking with the accursed past of the “Third Reich"
or of building a new life of peace, democracy and under¬
standing among the peoples. The unholy spirit of Ausch¬
witz, Maidanek and Treblinka, inspired by those who share
responsibility for the murder of six million Jews, is being
restored in Western Germany . . .
That is why the storm of protest against the revival of
anti-Semitism in Western Germany, their NATO ally, is
growing in such countries as Britain, France and Norway.

Nothing new in the German West: The biography of
Ambassador Dr. Wilhelm Grewe
Forgers at work
In 1945 the organizers of the gas chambers concealed
their responsibility - insofar as they were not executed
in Nuremberg - and cringed with fear before the wrath of
the people like rats in their holes. Now they have reap¬
peared, they are now ministers and secretaries of state,
police officers and judges, writers and teachers. And as
before they seek to shift the responsibility for their infamy
on to others. “The communists are responsible for the
anti-Semitic excesses”, they write. Like Goring who set fire
to the Reichstag in 1933 and then cried: "The com¬
munists did it. Lock them up, kill them!”
On January 2nd 1960 an official declaration of the West
German federal press bureau stated: "There is evidence
that the outrages are part of a planned action to defame
the Federal Republic in the eyes of the world public.”
The Bonn government had this declaration delivered to
all governments with which it has diplomatic relations
via its missions in foreign countries.
On January 19th 1960 the Bonn war ministry gave to all
western press services indexed "material” of the "highest
secrecy”, showing that "communists and the German
Democratic Republic” were responsible for the fascist
and anti-Semitic excesses. This falsified material was, on
the instructions of Minister Strauss, fabricated by Hitlerite
General Gehlen’s secret service with the cooperation of
the anti-Comintern specialist, Dr. Taubert . . .
This clumsy forgery won no plaudits even from the anti¬
communist West German newspapers.
"The Niirnberger Nachrichten” recalled, in its issue of
January 20th 1960, "that even earlier, on the occasion of
the desecration of a Diisseldorf synagogue, a communist
was similarly accused - and as it later turned out, com¬
pletely falsely.” The West Berlin daily newspaper "Span-
dauer Volksblatt” wrote on January 22nd 1960 "In Bonn
they frequently say that Herr Taubert is seeking evidence
that communist agents have taken part in the anti-Semitic
incidents.”
And the London "Daily Mirror" comes to the conclusion:
"Attempts will be made to blame the communists. But the
truth is that the old incorrigible extremists, who at the end
of the war cringed in their hiding places, have now come
out into the open again.” (Retranslated from German.)
Convicted of deception
As a Chinese saying has it: "one should not stir up dirty
water." The old extremists in Bonn, however, continue to
stir up the dirty water of anti-communism.
Already at the beginning of 1948 they affirmed, in the
ill-famed "Protocol M”, that the communists intended to
organize armed struggle in the Ruhr. The "protocol" was
unmasked as a forgery in April 1948.
On September 22nd 1949 two alleged "returnees from
Soviet war prisons”, Siegfried Kluger and Thilo Wagner,
appeared with slanders against the Soviet Union before
the Bonn parliament. On April 25th, 1950 they were
unmasked in court as notorious swindlers.
In February 1955 the West German government "dis¬
covered” an alleged letter from Walter Ulbricht, first
secretary of the Socialist Unity Party of Germany, to the
national council of the National Front of Democratic
Germany on "agitation in the Federal Republic before the
ratification of the Paris treaty.” The West German news¬
paper "Westfalische Rundschau” exposed the forgery on
February 21st 1958. It pointed out that this fetter was
fabricated by the West Berlin espionage organization call¬
ed the "Fighing Group Against Inhumanity” on the
instructions of Chancellor Adenauer.
Stephan, professional spy and former employee of the
fascist Gestapo (secret state police) sold a "document"
to Adenauer according to which two West German
officials of the Social Democratic Party had been "bribed
by the GDR with 10,000 marks”. In November 1957
Stephan was convicted of fraud and sentenced to prison.

Leader of anti-Semitism: Secretary of State for Internal
Affairs in the Office of the Federal Chancellor in
Western Germany, Hans Globke
Two sides of a coin
"I know the way, I know the text, I also know the
author . . wrote the great German Poet of Jewish
origin, Heinrich Heine, a hundred years ago. He could
have written thus about the West German extremists of
today who are trying in vain to put the blame for their own
complicity in anti-Semitic excesses in Western Germany
on to the "communists and the GDR’\ The forgers are
pilloried, exposed, divested of their white waistcoats of
innocence for everyone in the world to see.
Anti-Semitism does not exist in the German Democratic
Republic, but in Western Germany it is the logical
accompaniment of the restoration of German imperialism.
Anti-Semitism and militarism are the two sides of the same
coin.
The ruling circles in Bonn are making Western Germany
the heart of European reaction, from which fascist impul¬
ses and barbaric ideas flow over the frontiers. That is the
undeniable fact, alarming to all people of good will,
which emerges from that "national” wave which began on
Christmas Eve 1959 in Cologne . . .
The GDR is no fertile soil for anti-Semitism. The progres¬
sive forces amongst the German people recognize and
oppose in the anti-Semites the forces which are the deadly
enemies of humanism, freedom and progress. Faithful to
the traditions of decades of struggle, the working class
and other progressive forces in the German Democratic
Republic have exterminated anti-Semitism and fascism by
its roots. In the German Democratic Republic there has
been no desecration of Jewish synagogues and cemeteries,
no chalking up of swastikas.
There is no fertile soil in the first German peace state
for racist and nationalist hate propaganda. Here there
are no Oberlanders or Globkes, no SS associations and
no nazi judges.
In the GDR the state and public life has been demo¬
cratized from the ground up, in accordance with the
provisions of the Potsdam Agreement. This new demo¬
cracy, the democracy of the people, guarantees the same
Throughout Western Germany and West Berlin: protests
of the people against militarism and fascism
rights to all citizens, irrespective of their religion, nation¬
ality and race. This of course also applies to Jewish
citizens, the great majority of whom are recognized as
victims of the nazi regime in the GDR. This gives them a
number of privileges, including higher pensions.
In the German Democratic Republic there are seven
Jewish communities which are joined together in the
“Association of Jewish Communities of the GDR". In
addition there is a Jewish community in Greater Berlin.
Each of these communities has its own administration and
receives generous financial support from the state budget
for its activities.
Today the Jewish communities in the GDR have nine
synagogues and a chapel at their disposal. In addition
the construction and restoration of synagogues is carried
out entirely with state funds. The state provided 1.2 million
marks to build new synagogues in Berlin, Erfurt, Karl Marx
Stadt, Magdeburg and Dresden, The government of the
GDR allocates 200,000 marks a year for the upkeep of
Jewish cemeteries which are all the property of the Jewish
communities. The Jewish communities also own homes for
the aged and rest and convalescent homes which are also
assisted by the state.
Jewish citizens have complete freedom in the practice
of their religion, the religious instruction of believers,
religious services, religious education, etc. The Jewish
communities have their own literature. Many Jewish
citizens work in responsible positions in the state and
economy, in the democratic parties and mass organi¬
zations. They are members with full and equal rights in a
state which is built on the socialist principles of mutual
respect and friendly cooperative life.
The Jewish citizens of the GDR feel secure and happy.
The cares which beset Jewish citizens in Adenauer’s state
again today are unknown to them. ’’There are already
Jewish communities”, wrote the West German newspaper
"Frankische Tagespost” on January 7th 1960, "which are
seriously thinking of emigrating because they fear the
repetition of January 30th 1933, which led to the Nurem¬
berg Laws and the gas chambers in the concentration
camps.” A peace treaty points the way
Many Jewish citizens in Western Germany again fear a
repetition of the nazi crimes, a new "Crystal Night,” and
are haunted by the frightful vision of fascist concentration
camps, because in this state the old unholy spirit is being
stirred up anew in the highest government positions. Peace
and security for Jewish citizens can only exist when mili¬
tarism and anti-Semitism are eliminated in Western
Germany. The draft of a peace treaty with Germany points
the way.
The Prime Minister of the German Democratic Republic,
Otto Grotewohl, declared on January 8th 1960 in con¬
nection with the anti-Semitic and fascist excesses in
Western Germany: "The most effective way to call a halt
to such disastrous developments is the conclusion of a
peace treaty on the basis of the principles of the anti-
Hitler coalition, as has been proposed by the German
Democratic Republic and the Soviet Union.”
Article 14 of this peace document says "that all persons
under German jurisdiction irrespective of race, sex,
language, religion, nationality, origin or political con¬
viction, enjoy the rights of man and basic liberties . .
It is not only in the interest of the German people and
their Jewish fellow-citizens that a democratic peace treaty
be finally concluded with Germany, but also in the interest
of all peace-loving, humanitarian-minded people.
Anti-Semitism and militarism in Western Germany must
be destroyed completely and for all time. That is the
warning, the demand and the call to struggle of millions
of people throught the world who hold aloft the banner of
humanity.
