    Christmas don't forget the baby!

There was an incident that happened in a local church some years ago. In the busy runup to Christmas some school children were gathered on the chancel steps in the main

body of the church for the final dress rehearsal of their nativity play. During theperformance a nervous teacher directing the production from the back of the churchhung on every word and action. As the drama made its faltering way to a climax Maryand Joseph appeared suddenly paralysed and struck dumb as they stood in front of themakeshift stable staring into an empty crib. Breaking the silence the director shoutedvainly 'Where's the baby?' Mary leaned over and peered into the crib, she started torummage in the straw, but no baby appeared; pausing she looked up bereft andspeechless. 'Where's the baby?' repeated the director. Mary looked close to tears, there was no baby. In distraught tones the director gave the inevitable and desperate

final instruction, 'When it comes to the performance, remember, it's very important, don'tforget thebaby!'

As we rush around preparing for Christmas it's very easy to get distracted by the pull ofthe world around us. If we choose to let that happen then it is very likely that we willforget the baby. And the baby isvery important!

So what's it all about? A child born in a stable proclaimed Prince of Peace. He wasacknowledged as the Son of God Emmanuel (which means God is with us). A figurewho frightenedpowerfulkings. Thisperson thisbaby- changed the world.

Yet he was born to a poor family forced to shelter in the poorest of conditions andrecognised first by the shepherds the lowest insociety. Whatdoes thatsay tousaboutthe kind of God that is being revealed to us in the person of Jesus Christ? TheChristmas story reveals a God who is not interested in the pomposity of the world. AGod who identifieswith us inour vulnerability. AGod who isactually closer tous thanwethink! It is here through this baby that the story of God's love for us unfolds. TheChristmas story is full of hope and promise and love for every single one of us can youbelieve it?

This Christmas let the true meaning of this season shine through as we greet the Christchild again and sing our carols of welcome. I wish you all a peaceful, joyful, light filled,Christ filledChristmas.

And is it true? And is it true? This most tremendous tale of all

Seen in a stained glass window's hueA baby in an ox's stall?

    Leziate WI October meeting

There were 23 members and visitors

present for Stewart South's wonderfultalk about the birds he has encounteredas a member of the Nar ValleyOrnithological Society. The photos onthe slide show were taken by his friend,

Alan Hale, and Stewart talked abouteach bird shown. They were socolourful. I didn't know there were somany different birds around waders,

coots, seagulls, waxwings, bullfinch, goldcrests, bitterns, lapwings, kestrels, robins, nightingales, jays, great crestedgrebes and owls. This is just a few ofthose shown. We also saw beautifulbutterflies, a few red admiral, paintedlady, peacock and deer. Stewart wasthanked by President Eileen Baxter.Refreshments brought by memberswere served. Raffle was won by JanetJary, Margaretta Wiskin, Joan Brown,Sylvia Spear, Jackie Tubbs, Ali South,Mary Ryan and Wendy Twite.

Members were asked by the Village HallCommittee if they were able to provideand serve refreshments at the LeziateVillage Hall Christmas Fair on Sunday1st December from 1pm-4pm wealways enjoy this.

We meet on the third Tuesday at 2pm inLeziate Village Hall. All welcome toattend.

    The Big Flush

Well, winter is here and Anglian Watermust be thankful that the work advancedso well over the summer months. It isclear that the sewerage pipes andpumping stations are now just about

complete which only leaves the sewagetreatment works to be constructed

before there can be the Big Flush. As you know, the STW has been acontentious issue because of theintrusion into the natural landscape inChurch Lane. Anglian Water hasaccepted that there has been strongfeeling over this and following a meetingin the summer with the CARERS Group, and Parish, Borough and County

Councillors and with the involvement ofHenry Bellingham, our MP, theyaccepted some suggestions made toameliorate the problems with the chosensite. Thus they have completelyreconfigured the site so that it can becompletely hedged around the front andwith evergreen and taller trees so thatthe site will not be seen by any casualuser of the lane or walker on the

footpath on the hillside. It may take afew years for complete cover but it is thevery best solution for this site. We are abit disappointed that an alternative sitethat was proposed has not been carriedfurther forward but still believe that agreat deal has been achieved.

The changes have been such that AWhas needed to reapply to NCC for formal

planning permission. It is certain thatthe involvement of all who signed thepetition along with all our electedrepresentatives has helped bring abouta very positive result and thanks go toeveryone for their support.

    Leziate Parish Council Report

The Parish Council met on Wednesday13th November 2013.

The Parish Council discussed at lengththe proposed budget cuts from NCC.They agreed to formulate a response

highlighting some of the areas that theybelieve may impact on our community. Itwas generally felt that some of theproposed cuts could have more impacton a rural community like ours. It wasalso agreed that some of thepreventative costs which are beingproposed to cut such as fitting of smokealarms may not be cost effective in the

long run. Individuals still have anopportunity to respond, this link will givemore information.

    http://www.norfolk.gov.uk/Council anddemocracy/Interact with us/Norfolkputting people first/index.htm

Some of the cuts will impact you so,have your say by 12th December 2013.

The Parish Councillors were all pleasedwith the success of the flashing signs. Itwould appear people are slowing downalthough we have had speeds recordedof 70mph. Cllr Barnett will analyse thedata and give us some up to datestatistics when the scheme has settleddown.

The Chair reported that the ParishCouncil and other members of thecommunity have been in talks withSibelco regarding the future of the lakes. The unfortunate sad events of thesummer have prompted this and there isa general will to make this area bettermanaged which, in turn, should helpreduce the anti-social issues we haveexperienced.

At our Parish Council meeting onthere will be

a presentation from Sibelco of our

    12thFebruary 2014 at 7.00pm

combined thoughts and we would likemembers of the public to come along todiscuss this and contribute to thisprocess.

Put the date in your diary now as it willbe an informative and interestingmeeting, please note we are going tohave an earlier start time of 7pm. Weare hoping before this point that aquestionnaire will be delivered to theparish and we would encourage allresidents to fill this in and put forwardyour comments.

Dog fouling has become a real issue inthe parish and it has been noted that thearea around Brands Wood is particularlybad. Dog fouling is a priority issue forthe police and our PCSOs have beengiven more power to deal with theproblem. We would implore people topick up their dogs mess and deposit it inthe many dog bins around the parish.

As previously mentioned, the next ParishCouncil meeting will be held on

in the village hall starting at7pm for a presentation by Sibelco aboutthe future of the lakes.

Leziate Village Hall -Big Band 'Rat Pack Evening'

The Centre Stage Swing Band, conducted by Jack Brear on behalf ofLeader Roger Lines, and featuringpopular vocalist Tom Melvin, will be

playing at Leziate Village Hall onMonday 2nd December at 7.30pm.

The band will be playing selections fromthe big bands and Frank Sinatra.

Admission 4 includes hot wine of theseason and nibbles.

With the assistance of Leziate WI and

    sharing proceeds.

A feast of goodmusic, not to be missed.

Be aware of being bumped or jostled, possibly by two or three people. This is acommon distraction whilst a bag isopened or pockets checked, distractingyou from what is going on.

Finally, please, please, please don'tkeep your PIN number with your creditor debit cards, or carry large amounts ofcash. It is surprising how many peoplekeep a slip of paper with all their PINnumbers in the same purse or wallet asthe cards themselves. This may affectyour chances of being reimbursed by thebank and will certainly lead to the cardbeing extensively used in a very quicktime.

Advice from the Police aboutsimple things you can do to

    stay safe whilst shopping overChristmas.

It sounds silly but keep your bag withyou don't leave it hooked over theback of a trolley whilst you nip up anddown the aisles, or over the back of achair in a caf, coffee house orrestaurant.

Make sure any bags are closed andfastened much more difficult to stealwhat you can't see.

Don't place a purse, wallet or phone ona counter or table whilst searching forsomething else or waiting for a bill. Athief will cause a distraction and it will begone in a second.

For the gentlemen put your wallet in aninside or front pocket rather than a backpocket which is much easier to pick.

You could have been born in a palace, with all the treasures of the world.Instead you were born without money, and in a manger. You showed us that your kingdom is not of this world. You showed us that the riches of this world are not good enough for you.You are holy, sacred and perfect.Let this Christmas be wonderful!Let this Christmas be awesome as we celebrate your sacred and holy birth.Let us remember you and your word, when we gather together in your name.

Let glory, honour and praise be to you alone dear Jesus.Happy birthday to our saviour!Amen.

    Gayton Parish Council News

    Meeting held 11th November 2013

The Clerk confirmed that RobertWebster and a friend had looked at theskatepark design concepts and haddisregarded the ones with steel ramps

because of the noise that they generatein favour of the equipment with plywoodramps. The Clerk reported that theCouncil now needs to consult with theparish and ask parishioners to choosetheir preferred design from the threeavailable. It was agreed to hold anonline poll on the village website and todeliver leaflets to every household

showing the designs and givinginformation on how people can vote ormake comments. Once this has takenplace, the Council can move on to makeapplications for funding for theequipment.

The Council noted the Parochial ChurchCouncil's proposal that it pays for new

gates to be erected at the Church andthat the Parish Council covers the costof repairs to the lych. The Council notedthat the quote received for repair worktotalled 550. In principle, the Councilagreed to donate a maximum of 550towards repair work, subject to a facultybeing granted, and for the ParochialChurch Council to arrange all works.

County Councillor Toby Coke attendedthe meeting and told the Parish Councilthat although Norfolk County Councilvoted against terminating the incineratorproject by two votes recently, it isreasonably likely that the Secretary ofState will turn down the planningapplication

    Lych Gates

    Incinerator

for the incinerator on thebasis that the EU targets for waste

disposal can be met without it. Inaddition to this, the PFI funding of

withdrawn because it has acknowledgedthat the incinerator is not necessary tomeet waste targets.

It is hoped that the gravel will be laid onthe footpath some time in November.

Mr Beales reported that Anglian Waterplans to begin repair works in earlyDecember. The findings from theinvestigation they carried out showed, among other things, that 111 metres ofpublic sewer require rehabilitation inBack Street and Lime Grove.

For the full minutes of the meeting, visit. The next

meeting is planned to be on
