Blind Sports NSW and Disabled Wintersport Australia joined forces to host the first Winter Sports Camp in Jindabyne for Blind Sports NSW members aged 12 and up. The camp took place from Friday 5th - Sunday 7th July with campers having the opportunity to try skiing or snowboarding. Australian Paralympic skier and Blind Sports NSW Board Member, Melissa Perrine, accompanied the campers over the weekend and was thrilled to see them gain confidence and learn new skills out on the snow. All in all, it was completely awesome to see these six be introduced to a com- pletely foreign environment for the first time, asked to trust sighted guides that they had never met whilst learning a new skill, and not only doing so, but succeeding with such enthusiasm, Mel said. After a successful National Cricket Inclusion Championships where NSW retained the National Cup defeat-ing South Australia in Geelong, VIC this January, representatives from that team were invited to participate at the 1st Australian Blind Cricket Training Camp of 2019. Represented were the following players: Lindsay Heaven, Shaun Fitzpatrick, Oscar Stubbs, Sean Brown, Ben Felton, Vaugh Rolls, Nathan Letts with coach Jason Stubbs. The Australian Squad played the QLD Bulls mainstream state team and defeated them in a T20 game, highlighting some of the young talent that currently exists in Australian Blind Cricket. This squad will make up the players who will be selected for the next World Cup and Ashes series to come in the future. If you would like to know more about how you can start playing Blind and Vision Impaired cricket in NSW,

International Blind Tennis Association Tournament

Spain hosted the 2019 IBTA World Tournament which featured a team from Australia pictured in this section, the team was very successful with Ricky Segura winning the B4 category and Mark Ashik finishing 3

rd in the B2 category. This is off the back of an outstanding program in

Victoria that has really enabled people with low vision and blindness to begin playing tennis both socially and competitively around Australia.

Tennis NSW are about to launch an inclusion program for people with low vision and blind-

ness at Royal Rehab in Ryde of a Sunday with new Tennis Australia inclusion coach Steve.

If you want to know more about our Tennis program go to our Facebook page which can be

accessed from www.blindsportsnsw.com.au and let us know that you want to attend our

sessions at Ryde starting in late July.

I’m looking to promote Adaptive Surfing to the Blind community and hoping you can help. There is a massive opportunity to compete on the world stage here for any-one who is keen. Australian Nationals are on the Gold Coast on 18th August. Would love to see a whole bunch of new people there. We desperately need women. Currently we have no Women competing so any female who turned up would get an instant spot on the Aussie team .for World Champs. If you are interested in joining Matt , simply send him an email at [email protected] There is also the Bali Adaptive Pro coming up on 1-3

In their quarter final they played Canada who finished 4

th at the 2018 IBSA Goalball World

Championships in Sweden. Canada defeat-ed Australia at the 2015 IBSA World Games in their Bronze Medal play off so Australia was hoping to turn the tables on Canada. Canada went up 1-0 however the Aussie Belles stormed back and played some amaz-ing defence to defeat Canada 5-1 and ad-vance to the semi-finals. In the Semi Final they played China who they lost to in pool play and who were the eventual winners of the tournament going undefeated through the entire event. Austral-ia kept fighting but eventually lost 4-8. They then played Israel in the Bronze Medal game however Lihi Ben David who was named player of the Tournament struck with early goals and Australia didn’t rebound losing 2-12 to finish 4

th at the event.

Peter Corr and Simon Smith led our Aussie Belles Women’s Goalball team to Fort Wayne, Indiana to compete for a place in the 2020 Tokyo Paralympic Games through this qualification event at IBSA World Games. Moving through their pool of 7 teams Australia had wins over Great Britain, South Korea, Germany and Spain to finish 3

rd in their pool

with losses to China and Israel.
