From Dameon and Leonie, Baron and Baroness of Aneala, to the populace of Aneala, greetings.

Vale Vallon d'Or. After some years as an incipient Canton of the Barony, it was decided that Canton could no longer sustain itself as an independent group. After polling the populace, the Lochac Seneschal has formally closed the group. The populace retain their membership of the Barony and we hope to continue to see them at events.

There are many events to chose from. This month started with Pencampwr, as told in the last issue of The Vine. Then we journeyed to Innilgard to celebrate their 30 year anniversary as a Barony, as well as the investiture of a new Baron and Baroness and the elevation of Master Aylwin Greymane as the newest member of the Order of Defense. We were especially impressed with the wonderful display of the history of Innilgard, with photographs and rare treasures from the past. The day after the feast, some of the rare treasures (stuffed toy sheep) reappeared, at the annual Innilgard Sheep-stealing Tourney and picnic.

The following weekend was the Golden Thimble competition. Three teams made outfits for Wolfgang Germanicus, Alexander of Dragon's Bay and UlfrUlfr fra Jorvik. The winning team was Schwartze Glocke, clothing Wolfgang in a colourful and elaborate late-period German, with the Norns, clothing Ulfr in Norse garb running a close second, and third was Clothing Sam (also known as Moist Gussets – a late night joke we were not present to fully appreciate). However, the winners were definitely the people for whom the clothing was made, and everyone had a great time. Thank you to Lady Ydeneya for ably stewarding her second event in a month and to Lord Hadrian for feeding us all so well, at all times of the day and night. We hope the event will run again.

And we are just back from the Inter-College War, held near Boddington at Lord Ulfr's place. We were only able to attend on Saturday, but we enjoyed ourselves very much. The day was fine and sunny, though the evening was distinctly cold. The college won the war, except for the bit which Lady Ariel won, and the winner of the inaugural College War A&S competition was Lord Giacomo (Jacques), with his turnshoes. The winner of the feast was the sheep on a spit, which was delicious, and accompanied with much other great food prepared by Lady Skjalddis and her team of helpers. Thanks go to the farm managers Kim and Susan for organising the sheep.

In the remainder of July we have an ICAC round at Lake Monger training next Sunday, then over the following two weekends Abertridwr's Heraldic Melee and Aneala's Midwinter feast, before the Baron heads off to Pennsic on July 29.

Until next time

Yours in service

Dameon and Leonie
