celebrating their 75th Annual Show this weekend and are stepping back in time by dressing up in the fashion of the era and have offered a prize for the Best Themed Trade Site.

There are two stages located out in Pembroke Park with entertainment from Johnathan Usher – magician, Billy Black Kiwi Culture Show, Highly Flammable Performers, Les Richardson Quartet and the ever popular Alexandra Pipe Band and also a variety of local musical talent. There are over 430 Trade exhibits to browse through with something for everyone to enjoy. New this year in the livestock is the Gypsy

Cob section on Saturday afternoon. Home Industry are still accepting entries till 5.00pm Thursday. Pets in the pet section must be registered at the office before 11.00am Saturday.

The Wanaka A & P Show is a full two day event with equestrian competition running from 8.30am till 6.00pm on both Friday 9th and Saturday 10th March. All Black coach, Steve Hanson will be opening the show. All this for a minimal cost of $10 per adult, children are free. Pre sale two day passes are still available up untill 5.00pm Thursday afternoon. And don’t miss the highly anticipated Jack Russell race at 12.30pm Saturday just prior to the Grand Parade.

In the past week Police responded to a variety of different incidents.

Overnight on the 28/02/2012 four vehicles parked in motel car park were scratched. The offender taking the time to ensure he/she damaged several panels on each vehicle.

Later in the day Police were called to assist ambulance staff at an accident site that occurred on the Look-Out hill near The Neck, Lake Hawea. A Canadian couple cycling on a tandem bicycle had a nasty accident at a high speed and were airlifted to Dunedin Hospital for treatment for serious injuries. Both remain in hospital a week after the crash! Thanks to the off duty medical staff who was first on the scene, raised the alarm, and treated the couple until the ambulance arrived. The wearing of cycle helmets by these riders is attributed with saving them from much more serious injuries.

Police and Wanaka LandSar members attended a number of incidents.

On the 28/02/2012; a male who had gone for a walk after sunset needed to be extracted after he bluffed himself on a ledge six metres above the road near The Neck, Lake Hawea. He was under prepared for the environment and the trip he planned.

On the 29/02/2012; Police began conducting enquiries after the Department of Conservation reported two trampers over due from a trip. The pair reported in to DOC a couple of hours later safe and sound. Another example of how valuable filing a 'trip intention' form is.

On the 29/02/2012; a school group requested assistance after a 14 year old student injured his ankle at Junction Flat, East Matukituki Valley and required medical attention. Wanaka SAR and a LDART helicopter responded and the student was taken to the Wanaka Medical Centre.

A tramper/climber became stranded in bad weather on the West Coast side of the Mt Aspiring National Park on Friday evening and activated his emergency locator beacon. Aspiring Helicopters & local Landsar members made several attempts to locate him but were hampered by weather issues. The man was finally lifted out on Saturday morning.

Another tagger has surfaced. On the 29/02/2012 graffiti was discovered on concrete block at the skate park. If anyone has any information on the tags please call the station ph 443 7272 or Crimestoppers on ph 0800 555 111.

Also on the 29/02/2012 a local sports shop reported a male shop lifter stealing a distinctive lime green light weight merino top. Police are looking for a tall thin male, aged in his late 40s - early 50s, with greyish/light blonde hair past his ears. Do you know this person or do you suspect that he may have stolen from your business?

Police attended two separate Family Violence incidents last week where arrests were made. Both incidents involved alcohol but no assaults were reported and charges relate to property damage and intimidation.

On the 03/03/2012 Police were called to a party to assist a man who had been seriously assaulted while trying to break-up a fight involving a knife. The victim received a moderate head injury and is now recovering at home. A local man has been arrested and charged with “injuring with intent” and “possession of an offensive weapon”.

We received a report that Wanaka householders are again being targeted by a computer phone scam. A very convincing male caller who gives the name of a legitimate New Zealand company called NZ Company Creative International Solutions states that your computer has a virus and directs you to log onto a website or your computer will blow up in a month. This is a scam; please don't engage with this person, it is fine to hang up on him!
