MASS INTENTIONS
Sunday September 15th is Catechetical Sunday
The Theme this year is “Stay With Us”.
Jesus, you told us that laborers for the vineyard
would be few and that we should pray to the Lord of
the Harvest in the hope that many might respond.
You have answered our prayers by sending us cate-
chists for your vineyard. Bless these men and women
who have responded to your call to the ministry of
catechesis. May they be filled with zeal for your
Church, with care for those they catechize, and with
love for your Word of Life. Let your Spirit come up-
on them so that your Word may echo through their
teaching and through the witness of their lives.
Through our catechists, may the members of our
parish whom they teach be transformed into wit-
nesses to your Word. And may these catechists re-
ceive the blessing your Son promised to all who la-
bor in your vineyard. We pray to you, gracious Fa-
ther, in the name of your Son, Jesus, the Word of
Life, and in the unity of the Holy Spirit who trans-
forms us by that Word, one God, forever and ever.
Amen.

My dear parishioners,
This Sunday we celebrate Catechetical Sunday. Each year, Catechetical Sunday gives us the opportunity to reflect on the role that each of us plays, by virtue of our Baptism, in handing on the Catholic faith and being a witness to the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Catechetical Sunday encourages us to rededicate ourselves to the mission of evangelization. The catechetical theme for this year’s Catechetical Sunday is “Stay With Us.” The words “stay with us” were spoken on Easter Sunday by the disheartened disciples who encountered the Risen Lord on the road to Emmaus (cf. Lk 24:13-35). After Christ’s words set their hearts afire, they asked him to stay with them. That evening Christ stayed with them and re-vealed to them his Real Presence in the Holy Eucharist, thus reviv-ing their hope. These hope-filled disciples then returned to Jerusa-lem to share their experience of the Risen Lord with the Apostles. Pope Francis has emphasized “the foundational experience of en-counter with God through Christ’s death and resurrection” and our need to bear witness to this experience through “fraternal love, community life and service.” The Holy Father says that: “All Christian formation consists of entering more deeply into [this encounter with God] and incarnating it ever more fully in our lives.” To facilitate this encounter and our ability to share it with others we have our Lighthouse Catholic Media Kiosk in the back of St. Patrick Church. As in years past, I extend on this Catechetical Sunday the following four-step evangelization challenge: (1) listen to a Lighthouse CD or read a Lighthouse book or booklet from the Kiosk; (2) spend nine days (a novena) praying for God’s light to know the person with whom you should share the CD, book, or booklet; (3) after these nine days of prayer, give the CD, book, or booklet to that person; (4) pray, through Mary’s intercession, that the person will hear God speak to him/her through what you shared. Passing on such a resource is one of the easiest ways to share our experience of the Risen Christ. Fr. Draper
