Brief History“In the late 18th Century, Jamaica Plan was a summertime destination for wealthy Bostonians who built resort homes around the Jamaica Pond. Today, JP is a diverse neighborhood, economically, ethnically, and racially. It is also home to a mix of long-time residents and recent arrivals, families and single professionals, alike.” –Boston Redevelopment Authority

Quick Tips for Apartment LivingOCTOBER 2012 VOL 1 ISSUE 1

Recipe du OctobreApple Cinnamon Pumpkin Pancakes Makes about 8 medium pancakesPrep time: 10 minutes, Cook time: 5 minutes

6 ounces Chobani apple cinnamon Greek yogurt2 large eggs1 cup canned pumpkin (not pumpkin pie mix)1 cup all-purpose flour1 1/2 teaspoons pumpkin pie spice2 teaspoons baking soda1/4 teaspoon salt

Heat a griddle or large frying pan over medium heat. In a medium mixing bowl, stir the yogurt and eggs until combined; stir in the pumpkin. In a separate small mixing bowl, stir the flour, pumpkin pie spice, baking soda, and salt. Add the dry ingredients to the yogurt mixture, stirring until just mixed (the batter will be thick). Spray the griddle with nonstick cooking spray. Use an ice cream scoop or large spoon to spread the batter onto the griddle (since the batter is thick, you will need to spread it out a bit to desired thickness). Cook the pancakes about 2 to 3 minutes on each side or until cooked. Serve with Greek yogurt, honey, maple syrup, or butter and cinnamon sugar (or all of the above!).

Save Energy, Save Money!

Keep the heat in your apartment! Invest in a draft snake to place by the front door

Change your light bulbs from incandescent to compact fluorescents

Keep your blinds open to naturally heat your apartment. Buy thicker blinds to insulate and keep heat in.

Unplug cell phone chargers and other appliances. Even when they’re not working to power something, chargers use phantom electricity, which raises bills!

Wash clothes in cold water- it uses energy to heat up hot or warm water!
