ning to use this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity

as a science lesson ever since I was hired as

Director in 2013).

I mentioned above that we are on the last year

of our current 5-year grant, so let me end by

sharing a bit about how VUB is able to pro-

vide the counselling and academic services

that we do. VUB receives its funding through

a 5-year grant from the U.S. Department of

Education in order to provide our services free

to qualified veterans. Our current grant was

written in 2012, which means we are funded

through September 2017. What happens after

that? Well, we are currently in the beginning

stages of writing our next grant, one which

will hopefully see us funded from October

2017 through September 2022. As part of our

grant, we are asked to show how the campus

community is involved and supports our pro-

gram. So if we contact you asking for a letter

of support, please respond quickly so that we

can strengthen our grant and ensure another 5

years of VUB at WKU.

Thanks!

Davy Stone

Greetings, friends of VUB! As our 15/16

year winds down, I wanted to take a moment

to look back at the successes our students have

had this year. We held our annual awards

banquet in August, and there we honored over

100 participants who had been admitted to

school since the last banquet, as well as 32

VUB alumni who have graduated with their

degrees since leaving our program. These

numbers are some of the best VUB at WKU

has seen, and we’re incredibly proud of our

participants for their educational successes

and honored to be able to help them on their

way.

Looking forward, on October 1st we will begin

the last year of our current 5-year grant. And

for VUB at WKU, this year will be very spe-

cial because it will be our 25th year serving the

southcentral Kentucky area. Last week we

had a staff meeting to plan activities for the

2016/17 school year, and I while I can’t give

you too many specifics yet, I can tell you

we’re planning to have an open house and a

special end-of-summer awards banquet. But

the one activity I’m most excited about per-

sonally is the total solar eclipse which will

pass through much of our service area on Au-
