Thanks to all who turned out for the Friday Night and Landing Bike Nights. Great representation. The weekend lead up to Bike Week events were a big hit. The Wall of Death is scheduled to return. There were some dynamic cooking teams that weekend. The Friday crew put on quite a show. And then the Saturday crew showed up. They had outstanding results. Hats off to all who participated that weekend. We still have slots open for After Chapter cooking. See Stephan or Manya at Activities or email Stephan at [email protected] to sign up. The bike Demo rides were busy. Thanks to Manya for heading that up that weekend event. We can’t give enough thanks to Missy (The Energizer Bunny) for her support to all dealer and club activities. She’s one of the last to leave and the first one in the next morning.

Bike Week kicked off with Chamber of Commerce weather. (No Humidity)

Thanks to all who participated in The Ride for Smiles event.

Bike Night at The Landing is April 13. I know I’ll see you there.

The Easter Egg Hunt is April 15. See or contact Michele at Ladies of Harley to

Happy April HOGS!! What a great start to the year! We are still having some great turnouts even with some chilly weather. I still believe this is the best club in town. We have had a great turnout to the bike nights. This year we have won all the bike nights at the Landing and the Dealerships. We look forward to keeping those going as we always love the money (and the bragging rights...lol). Keep an eye out for the next one – I hope to see you all there. To those who have come out, thank you!! Just a small reminder that Orange Park is working the Ride for Dreams, but we will be

assisting them on April 8th. They only need about 6 Volunteers so if interested please

get with or email activities to let them know. Until next month - safe riding.

Ride Safe & Have Fun. And don’t forget to hydrate, hydrate, hydrate, and use the sunscreen and lip balm.

March brought Bike week, bikers, big cookouts which means big

donations. The pre Bike week celebration at Adamec was a

great event and we were blessed to be in charge of the

cookouts for Friday and Saturday. Our cookout teams for those

days brought in banner amounts totaling $1,294. Awesome to

those hardworking folks! Their efforts brought us out of our

deficit for the year as well as giving top service to the dealer.

Thanks to all who cooked, ate and attended.

Play the 50/50! Our first charitable donation of the year will go

to the Veterans domicile in the amount of $500.

Speaking of which, our club members are a great group of

generous people. As you finish your tax return for 2016, now is

a good time to think about our personal charitable

contributions. Typically, those non-cash items we donate to

various charities and churches around town are excellent

deductions. Make sure you get the most from your contribution

but also beware of over deducting on these items. A good

source for valuing these items for your tax return is can be

found by searching for contribution calculators on the websites

for charities such as Goodwill and The Salvation Army. You can

use the calculators at these websites for any of your donations,

even for other charities. Another suggestion is to photograph

the condition of these items in order to maximize, as well as

document, your contribution. See your CPA for more help with

these contributions. These contributions go a long way towards

helping your favorite charity as well as lessening your tax

burden.

See you at the Rides!!

H.O.G. Member Spotlight

This year, in one weekend in April, we will observe two

important days; tax day and Easter. Money and Grace all

together. It seems an odd coincidence that these two

unique and important days fall together this year. The

new testament tells us to give to Ceasar what is his and

to God what is his. We have no lawful choice but to get

our taxes done. Not so with God. This April, won't you

spend some time with your Creator? There's so many

ways to do it: prayer, meditation, worship, doing his

work, walking the walk. Next time you ride, give thanks

for your friends and family, your bike and the open road.

Ride out and be an instrument of the Lord!

Our member in the spotlight this month is Roger Cain. His

hometown is West Palm Beach, FL, but he lived in Roanoke,

VA working for McKesson Pharmaceutical 38 years. He is

now retired and living in Callahan. He has a son, a

daughter, and two grandchildren, and he has an Australian

Shepard named Sky.

Roger says he was 10 years old the first time he rode a

motorcycle, and says “my dad was a Harley man.” His first

Harley was a 1956 Pan Head Dura Glide with a suicide shift

that he rode to school. Today Roger rides a 2009 CVO

Street Glide with California Custom Trike. He has been a

member of HOG since 1983.

Roger’s most exciting ride was a 1978 trip to Alaska via the

Alcan Highway with his brother, but his favorite place to

ride is Bear Tooth Hwy, Montana. His hobbies include

collecting cars and motorcycle memorabilia, and drag

racing.

LOH The March LOH Social had a great turn-out, with several new members, and quite a few significant others. We have been talking about how we can give back to our community, and have decided that we will be holding a food-drive for a local food bank. We have found that while the food banks are often highly contributed to in the fall and before Christmas, they often run low on much needed supplies during the summer months – and so, we will be having “Christmas in July”. We are asking that every member bring one non-perishable food item to the May, June, and July Chapter meetings. Our goal is to have 500 food items that can be delivered in July. A perk that is being offered for your much needed help – any member who brings in a minimum of 10 food items (over the three month period) will receive 10 Hog Bucks (10 Bucks is the maximum available). We also discussed the LOH events coming up throughout the year – the Easter Egg Hunt, Pignic, Bowling in July, Trunk / Treat, and the Holiday Party. The next LOH social will be on April 19th – we are looking at the Southside area for the next meeting. The location will be sent out via email before the meeting. Social hour will begin at 6:00. Dinner and meeting will be from 6:30 until 8:00. Ladies of Harley is a program sponsored by the Harley Owners Group to support women motorcycle enthusiasts - both riders and passengers! For those of you with significant others that would like to come, everyone is always welcome. The Annual Easter Egg Hunt will be on April 15th and we are still in need of volunteers to help make this another exciting year for the kids. We also need volunteers on April 2nd to come to Adamec at 1:00pm to help with egg-stuffing and game preparations for the event.

Winter is nearly over and it will be hot out there before we know it. Over the next few months, it is important to take precautions around the hot weather. And, those precautions pertain to your internal body as well as your external. For your internal, it will be important to avoid heat exhaustion. Heat exhaustion occurs when your body cannot keep cool and reaches an internal temperature of 104 degrees. Staying hydrated is the first and probably most important combatant for heat exhaustion and heatstroke. You need to drink water or other liquids without caffeine. In addition to staying hydrated, the next task is keeping your body temperature cool. As crazy as it sounds, this can be accomplished by covering your body – thin, loose, breathable clothing is the key. External protection from the heat and sun helps fight heat exhaustion and carcinoma (the most common type of skin cancer). The ultra-violet radiation can cause damage to your skin. So, it’s important to wear some layer of protection – light jacket, those fancy leotards for your arms (“sleeves”), sunscreen – SPF15 or greater, sunglasses, a light balaclava for your face are some examples. Until next month, ride safely and have fun! Earl Higginbotham [email protected] Safety Officer

On winding roads, corner as you normally would, allowing plenty of room for the other riders.

Keep to the road speed limits; regularly checking the person behind you is in view.

Always signal your intention to change lanes; keeping a safe distance behind the rider in front.

DON’T DRINK AND RIDE **The officers of JAXHOG wish to pass along the reminder that Riding Safe is our primary goal. Road Captain News

Hart Sutton, Head Road Captain

We are getting ready to plan our rides and events for the next few months. We would like to know if any of you have any great rides or places you would like to go or visit. If you do now would be a great time to bring it to the meeting on April 5th or please let one of the road captains know. We would like to hear your ideas. Just a reminder with the weather going hot and cold like it has been for the last few weeks it is important to keep a check on your tires. Also if it is time to have your bike serviced now is a good time before the weather gets so hot. It is good to keep the service up and your tires aired to the proper pressure in order to keep your Harley running like it should and in a safe condition. With all that being said the most important thing needed on your beautiful motorcycle is you. Without you the bike serves no purpose so please put yourself on the bike and come and ride with us. Don't forget we have the over nighter coming up this month and we have one road with some great curves on it and you do not want to miss it. Remember: Ride Like They Do Not See You!!
