    Student Council is proud to present the first issue of The Student Compass, a newsletter focused ocreating a student network and community at our school! Inside, you will find helpful informatiabout current and upcoming events, student news, clubs and employment. There is evenClassifieds section!

    Our goal is to create a newsletter that highlights student achievements, both inside and outside the school; creates and builds a student network; as well as provides current and importainformation. We want this newsletter to be a powerful resource for us all to use.

    Since this is our first issue, we are still in our development phase. We welcome all questioncomments, suggestions and general thoughts. We need your help! Submit classified ads, picturegame/music/film reviews, comics, and posters. Keep us updated about what youre doing at schoand in the community!     The life of a student is a challenging Especially today when the majoritstudents are working, balancing faand friends and managing diffcommutes. This reality makes it even m

    important for you, as a student, to focumaking school a priority and making sdifficult choices in order to be succeand reach graduation. In my many yeaThe Art Institute of Seattle I have serv

    a variety of roles and have observed, first-hand, a pattern of behavthat make for a successful student. Ensure youre doing these tthings and youll be most of the way to reaching your goal!

    Go to class. Most students laugh when I say this becauseems so obvious, but missing class is the #1 predictor of a studeultimate failure. Many students allot themselves a skip buddetermining the amount of time they believe they can miss class still do well. Think about it, though: missing one class equatemissing nearly 10% of the course content. Doesnt sound like a Would you be willing to take a 10% decrease in your income? 10

    meaningful and can be the difference between success and faiMissing more than one class exacerbates the problem and neensures poor performance in a class.

    Get to know your faculty. Beyond what they teach you inclassroom, your faculty are professionals in the industry you want ta part of. They can be excellent mentors who can help guide through school and beyond, into your first foray into the workpCome to class early. Hang out after class. Go to club meetings. Atworkshops. These are all excellent ways to get to know your teacbetter and foster a relationship that can enhance your stuexperience both in and out of the classroom.

    Take charge of your own education. For students coming rout of high school, it can be a shock that there is no one looking overreminding you to do your homework, go to class, when things are etc. For students returning to school as adults it can be a struggle tothe rhythm and cycles of being in school again. While the facultystaff are certainly here to help, this is your education and youresponsible to make it a success. Schedule time for homework, as as for class (about two hours for every hour of class). Ask for help wyou need it. Know the expectations and policies of the college. Bumulti-quarter plan for your courses so you stay on track in ycurriculum.

    Being a student isnt easy, but neither is working in any oindustries we teach at The Art Institute. By making school a prioand putting in a little hard work you can make real the dreams thatyou to enroll here. After all, thats why were all here, to make dreams come true.

    I wanted to extend my personal thanks toeach of you on campus who completed theannual Noel Levitz Student Satisfactionsurvey. This year we achieved a 57%completion rate which was our highest

    ever return as a campus community. Yourfeedback in regards to support servicesand institutional climate is essential tothe success of our campus. The results ofthe survey will be used by theadministration to focus on the areas that

    you as valued student feel are in need of expansion or improvement.Our Dean of Student Affairs, Megan Kijewski is currently compilingand analyzing the data results gathered from your responses. TheStudent Affairs staff will be scheduling open student feedback sessionsto discuss the data results in early May. You will receive an emailannouncement and posters will be placed around campus in regards totime and location of these feedback sessions.

    Some of the highest satisfaction results from the Noel LevitzStudent Satisfaction survey are:

    -The course content in my major is valuable

    -Faculty are knowledgeable in the field

    -Labs are services and technology are adequate

    -Staff are caring and helpful

    Some areas of dissatisfaction and/or improvement neededfrom the Noel Levitz Student Satisfaction survey are:

    -I am able to register for classes I need with few conflicts

    -This school does whatever it can to help me reach myeducational goals

    -Tuition paid is a worthwhile investment

    -Internships or practical experiences are provided in mydegree/certificate program

    These are very good results, and I look forward to continuingto build on our strengths, while simultaneously seeking ways toimprove the areas of challenge that remain for our campus. The staffand faculty of The Art Institute of Seattle are focused on thecontinuous improvement of your collegiate experience, and supportingyou toward your graduation. Once again, thank you for your honestfeedback and participation in this important survey. Best of luck to youall in your Spring 2013 courses.

    Mike Monaghan and Easton Richmond are photographers with two contrastic styles of capturinimages of people. Easto emphasizes the details of the human body, all in beautiful black and whitimages. While Mike captures emotion in different light media.

    Nominees could be selected if they exhibit one or more of the following:

    Improvement in class

    Good work ethic

    Volunteer work

    Being a valuable team member

    Any other reason a student should be celebrated!(Keep it appropriate! anything inappropriate will not be considered)

    Winners will receive a Portfolio dinner hosted by Student Council and the Executive Administrative

    Bioshock Innite like the two games before it, is an emotional

    rollercoaster. I found myself loving it one minute and cursing it the next.

    The game has some very heavy themes from religion to racism, so ifyoure faint of heart, or youre the type to take things personally, this

    game might not be for you. Innite starts you o somewhere in the middle of the ocean.

    There is a light house waiting for you. Youre being rowed to the light

    house this time rather than being in a plane crash. Strange man andwomen are rowing you and talking to one another. They hand you a box

    with a picture and a gun and tell you to bring them a girl and in returnthey will wipe away your debt. This is the main goal of the game is to

    rescue a girl named Elizabeth.When you get to the light house you make you way up this time

    rather than getting in a pod that takes you to the bottom of the ocean.

    You get rocketed in to the sky and see before you a ying city. The site ofseeing Colombia for the rst time is breath-taking, as the whole city is

    beautifully designed and colorful. The city feels alive and inviting andmore complete than almost any other game worlds I have been in, except

    for the original game. As you walk around the city, you can walk around

    the shops and listen to the citizens of the city talk. You get a real feel forwhat Columbia is all about and a sense that it is lived in rather than just a

    place for you to walk around and shoot some stu.You eventfully make your way to the fairgrounds where there is

    a celebration going on. You can walk around and see some sights and

    sounds. Some game play tutorials have even been very cleverly hidden ascarnival games. After walking around for a bit you will make your way to a

    rae, this is where you will get your rst taste of those heavy themes I wastalking about. You are given a baseball with a number on it. When they

    call the winning number, youre told to come collect your prize, which isan interracial couple that is tied up. Youre given the option to throw the

    ball at them or the announcer. I chose to throw it at the announcer.

    This is where the game begins and Columbia quickly turns frompeaceful city to chaos. You will see many more scenes like this throughout

    the campaign which is about 10 to 15 hours, depending on howthorough of a player you are; it took me 12 hours and I found most of the

    hidden content meant to ush more details about the game. You event-

    fully nd Elizabeth and together run around shooting the place up.This is where I had some conicting issues with the game.

    Elizabeth is easily the best AI character ever made, she is helpful andsmart and at times I forgot that she was not another player. She never gets

    in your way and is not always getting in to trouble that you need to rescue

    her from. In fact it was her who was getting me out of trouble most o

    time, throwing me ammo or health at the perfect time. But she neve

    too helpful.The game play to me, however, felt vastly dierent, while

    bad in the sense of controls or how they function. Rather the game ron old mechanics that have become all too familiar. Go here pre

    button. Go there press a switch then ght waves of enemies until

    clear them all, rinse and repeat. The one bright spot on the combat are the sky rails which can provide a great change of pace to some o

    combat. I just wish there had been more areas that used them.Now Im going to get in to spoiler area so please skip ahea

    the end if you dont want to hear them. After running around and shing bad guys for a while you come to the nale confrontation

    Comstock, the main antagonist. After he tells you his secret you kill

    and Elizabeth gets full control of her powers. This is where my bigissue with the game is... if you have read many books or watched far

    many movies - as I have - the plot is very easy to guess. I found Igured out 90% of the plot in the rst hour of the game and I was righ

    all accounts, except for the nal twist. This nal twist is the part that u

    me. Oh, also last chance to stop reading...You nd out that Booker, your player, was also Comstock

    bad guy but from a dierent reality. He made a choice you didnt sowhere in your past. You tell Elizabeth you want to go back and

    Comstock before he was born. At which point youre taken to that poi

    time where you didnt make the choice that the other Booker did. Mdierent versions of Elizabeth appear and then drowns you. This is w

    my two problems come in to play. One, if there are multiple Bookers fmultiple realities then killing just one would not change or aect

    other realities. And two, killing me at the end undoes or stops allevents that transpired in the game from ever happening. This made

    feel that everything I had just played was pointless as none of it

    happened within the reality of the game. That it is a game so none happened technically speaking. However, dont let this discourage

    from playing the game, as this is just my opinion.As an overall package it is a fantastic experience and takes s

    big steps forward in game making with only a few small missteps. D

    keep away from it just because I didnt like some of it.
