Movie: Tangled

It is about Rapunzel. When her

hair gets brushed it is magic. She

has just turned 18 but she is not

allowed to go out. The best bit is

w h e n P a s c a l h i d e s f r o m

Rapunzel. I would give this

cartoon 5 out of 5 stars.

By Kristan Watts

Movie: Annie

It is about a girl called Annie who

finds a dog. The police takes her

back to the orphange, but she is

happy at the end. The best bit is

when she gets a party with her

new Dad. I would give it 5 out of 5

stars. By Sydney Morgan

Movie: Home Alone

It is about a boy who

gets left at home

when his Mam and

Dad go on holiday. There

are some bad people trying to

get him. The best bit is when he

sets up lots of traps to get the

bad guys. It was funny when he

threw the box of spanners down

the stairs and it whacks them in

the face! I would give this cartoon

5 out of 5 stars. By Lucas Rushton

Movie: Toy Story

It’s about toys that are alive.

Woody kicks Buzz out of the

window and the toys have to help

him. Then they are not Woody’d

friends anymore. The funniest bit

is when Woody says “I’m Lost!”

and they get in the pizza van to

get home. I would give this

cartoon 5 out of 5 stars.

Hello, and welcome to ‘Q&A’ This week Press Office W interviewed forgetful inventor, Professor Crankpot!

Can you tell us about yourself? I am a Scientist. When I was little I was good at mixing things and making explosions. My Grandfather gave me a science kit and from then I loved it. I invent things.

What do you like about your job? I like that my job is fun. i like to mix and create. I don’t make very much money but it’s fun.

Have you always been forgetful? I mixed some chemicals and they messed with my memory. This was 10 years ago. It never came back.

Did you always want to be an inventor? I wanted to be an inventor since I was a little boy in Germany. I wanted to make things to help people.

What was your best invention? It would have to be my flying skateboard!

What was your worst invention? My worst invention was very messy. It was an invention to pick up dog poo, but it went very bad and there was poo everywhere!

Press Office W Help Out: What is best to use?By Press Office W

Reporters in Press Office W have been investigating the life and inventions of Professor Crankpot, the forgetful inventor. Due to his terrible memory, Professor Crankpot had forgotten all about his recent inventions. Luckily the reporters in Press Office W were able to lend a hand. After investigating materials for their article in last week’s edition they were in the the perfect position to help out. Professor Crankpot emailed his designs and notes and the reporters set to work to try and work out what they were and what he could use to make them.

Professor Crankpot’s World Changing Invention: But what does it actually do?This is the invention that Professor Crankpot claims will change the world. The fact that he can’t remember what it does may prove to be a slight hiccup in his plans to go down in history as

the inventor who invented the....? Do you have any idea what Professor Crankpot’s invention does? If you do can you let him know, he really is the most bumbling inventor you will ever

meet. So we will just have to wait for his memory to return. Let’s just hope that when he does remember, he writes it down before he forgets again!

On Wednesday 28th March Press Office 2 found out that the Easter bunny had gone on a little adventure. But where had he gone? Press Office 2 did not have a clue. However, some found out that he had gone to egg land. Egg land is very colourful. On his travels, the Easter bunny met a real life Easter egg. It said to him, “Are you lost?” The Easter b u n n y j u s t s c r e a m e d , “Ahhhhhhhh!” So he carried on walking until he found one thousand eggs. He also found

some twigs, which gave him the idea to build himself a basket. Once the basket was built, he gathered up all of the eggs that he could see and set off home to do his deliveries. A n d t h a t w a s t h e adventure o f t h e E a s t e r bunny!

On Friday 23rd March aliens invaded Portal Press Offices in Bedlington Station. It all started when Mrs Stobie was leaving school to go home. At 5.15pm. She saw a huge glowing object in the car park next to her car. It was the biggest thing she had ever seen. It had a hatch which opened wide. Then, three green slimy creatures came out. Mrs Stobie said, “I was so terrified! They had orange eyes and were really slimy!” Mrs Stobie was so scared she couldn’t move her legs. When she got them to move she ran back into the school. Next Miss Tuart went out to go home. When she got to the car park the aliens tried to grab her!“They were so slimy,” Miss Tuart reported. Miss Tuart tried her best to get away but she couldn’t. Just then Mr Coates came out. For some reason when they saw him they got scared and went back into their space ship to go home. Meanwhile,

M r s S t o b i e w a s g e t t i n g M r s Mulholland. When they both returned to the car park they saw the space ship fly off towards Ashington. That is what happened on 23rd March! What a terrifying encounter!

The Hobby Club:How to Train Your DragonBy Nadine Hope

My hobby is looking after beaded dragons. Bearded dragons are lizards. I keep mine in an avarium. They are called Kenneth and TJ. They eat crickets and have meal worms as a treat!.

When they get bigger they will eat locusts and make an annoying noises. I have to clean out their home once a week. I sweep out the wood chippings and put new ones in. When they are bigger they will have calcium sand.

They usually live in hot countries like Australia. In the avarium there is a cold area, a hot area and a warm area so if they want to be cool they will just go to the cold area.

Renga PoemsBy Press Office 4Haiku poems originate from Japan. They don’t have to rhyme but the first line must have five syllables, the second line seven and the third line five again. We experimented counting the syllables and it was very tricky! By adding two extra lines, each with seven syllables, we created Tanka poems. Then by joining some of the Tanka poems together we have created our very own Spring time Renga poem.

All I could hear was a distinctly aggravating hissing. Bobby, my best friend, had gone camping for two days to a camp site in Surrey, so he had left his pet snake with me! I really wished he hadn’t! Every time I walked away he started hissing. The snake was so irritating I decided to completely ignore him. I really hated that snake because half way through the night he started hissing in his tank and when I ignored him he just gets louder and louder. To be honest, I don’t think he liked me very much either!

One day it was scorching hot so I went to open the window. I was feeding him at the time but I forgot to put the lid on the tank! Because I was so tired I had a little snooze and when I woke up he was gone! I looked everywhere but there was no sign of him.

At that moment all I could think of to do was to lie to Bob and try and buy a new snake and hope he didn’t find out! One hour later I went to the

nearest pet shop and bought a new snake. When I got back I ran upstairs as fast as my legs could carry me because the snake had a hold of my finger. Eventually I got him off my finger and into the tank.

Then, I had a horrible feeling that that something was wrong. Something sprang into my mind – Bob would be back in ten minutes! I was panicking. There was a knock at the door. It was Bob. I handed over the snake and he gave me £10 for looking after it. I waved him and his false snake goodbye.

The next day I was stressed. Then, there was a knock at the door. It was Bob, looking very angry. He was really cross as he had found out the snake was not his. He shook with rage, dropped the snake and said, “I’m never speaking to you again.” He walked away.

A couple of years passed. I kept trying to say I was sorry but he never answered he front door. In fact he never spoke to me again......

You may remember a couple of weeks ago that Press Office Four published a story about a pet parrot. Reporters have been writing their own individual stories to enter into a Portal Press competition. This is the winning entry.

Her Majesty the Queen has asked us to create an art work for her entrance hall in Buckingham palace. She has specifically asked for it to include shells, glass beads and wood. All Acorn reporters created their own art work carefully choosing their own design looking for interesting materials and textures. The individual art works were then photographed and put together in a collage for the final picture. Her Majesty the Queen visited Acorn Press on Wednesday afternoon. The reporters were delighted to see her when she is on such a busy schedule visiting different parts of the country. The reporters showed her the cloak and knickers for her big day, glitter balls and hangings for her ballroom, they talked about the messy materials to which the Queen thought that mud would be ideal for the children’s party. Finally they showed her the new art work to go in her entrance hall of Buckingham Palace. As her majesty left she said that one day she would ask us to help her again and she was sure she would have a wonderful Diamond Jubilee celebration. She hoped that the reporters and their families would join in celebrations in June.

Reporters become PerformersPress office 3 became the performers this week as they took to the stage in front of everyone at Portal Press to play their trumpets. After months of hard work and practice with Mr Tallent, Press Office 3 were able to play their set of 7 pieces of music confidently to the audience.Reporter Chloe Hurrell comments, “I felt nervous because there were loads of people watching me. I felt terrible incase I played the wrong note.”Reporter Millie Thornton adds, “I had butterflies in my tummy before we went on stage.” Many of the press office had the same feelings. Chloe Crosby said, “I have performed on stage before as a dancer, but I was still nervous.”Despite all of the nerves, Press office 3 did a fantastic performance of which they are all very proud.Chloe Hurrell went on to say, “I felt proud because Mr. Tallent was proud”. Shay Jackson says, “I am very proud of myself and everyone in the press office.”At the end of the performance, press office 3 were given a huge round of applause from all of the audience. Many of the reporters have gained a lot of confidence from this and hope to continue their trumpet lessons with Mr Tallent in the future. A few reporters are even thinking about learning to play new instruments!

!

Interview with Mr TallentWhat is your favorite instrument?French horn

How many songs can you play? Probably hundreds from memory but I have probably played thousands over the years.

How many trumpets do you own? I have two trumpets (and also two French horns, two recorders, a guitar, a bass guitar, a flute, a clarinet and a didgeridoo).

Who is your best school? That depends--St. Mark's Primary in Newcastle because the children always work hard; but Bedlington Station comes next because when the children try hard, they make the quickest progress and play the most confident.

How many schools do you go to? Thirteen schools each week.

How long have you played the trumpet?I have played trumpet off and on for 30 years.

How many bands are you in? I play in 4 bands - New Tyneside Orchestra (horn),Northumberland Orchestral Society (horn), Sunderland Symphony Orchestra (horn) and the music group at my church (bass guitar).

The Station Reporter Final Edition: The AwardsReporters across al the Portal Press Offices received a surprise this afternoon when they were contacted by Editor-in-Chief Olive Stein. An email arrived just before 2pm requesting that all reporters attend a special meeting in the conference room immediately. When the reporters arrived at the conference room, they found the video screen ready for an incoming video call. The Reporters at Portal Press are used to talking to their boss, Olive, via live video call, but this meeting was at an unusual time and the reporters had only spoken to Olive earlier in the day, when she called via video link from her office in

London, to talk to them about the new addition. As the reporters settled into their seats, Olive appeared on the

screen. She was no longer in her office in London, but in a car. As she greeted the reporters, they slowly realised that the car she was in was in fact pulling up outside of the Portal Press Offices! Olive

continued to talk to the reporters as she walked into Portal Press, down the corridor, finally arriving through the doors of the conference room to a huge round of applause from the reporters. When the reporters settled down, Olive explained she had been so impressed with the work the reporters had done for her, that she wanted to reward them. It was at this point she revealed that she had gathered the reporters together for a special awards ceremony! During the ceremony, Olive awarded a number of r e p o r t e r s f o r t h e i r w o r k a n d achievements. The nominees and winners are listed below.
