Lady Penelope walked into Press Office W, at Portal Press, wearing her now famous fur coat and big pink hat. She had a friendly manner and was keen to get the interview started. The reporters gathered around to hear her talk about the robbery and the case, and to ask her the questions they had prepared.

Reporter Sweetlove began by asking Lady Penelope to tell us a bit about herself. “Well what can I say? I am Lady Penelope Smithe, I have lots of money and live in a big house. I have 2 children, Rupert and Mary-Ann”. Report Hanlon went on to ask Lady P what she does for a living. Lady Penelope gave a little smile and replied, “I have money, I just have fun, that’s my job”.

On hearing this Reporter Dawson probed further asking her to talk about what do she likes to do for fun? “Meet friends for lunch, go on cruises and walk my dogs”, was the reply.

The reporters were keen to find out about the robbery and the case that has had the whole world captivated. Reporter Kerry asked Lady P how she felt when the necklace was stolen? “I was so upset, I cried. The necklace used to belong to my Grandmother and was very special to me”.See the full interview inside.

One day Kenzie Ketchup, Suzy Syrup, Wonka Water and Shaun Soup were on a trip to the beach. They were really really hot so Kenzie said, “I’m boiling hot, lets go to the ice-cream parlour and jump in the freezer to cool down.” All the foods agreed. Then they said, “ahhhh, this is nice.” Before they knew it Kenzie was a liquid and so were Suzy, Wonka and Shaun. Then a boy came along to get his favourite ice-cream. When he opened the freezer lid, he rubbed his eyes and said to his friend, “have you ever seen foods with arms, legs and a face?” His friend said, “of course not.” So his friend said, “well come and look in the freezer.” So he did. They both decided to take them home. When they got there the two boys put them next to the oven and kept them there for half an hour. When the boys came back, the foods were screaming, “ what’s happened to us?” and that was the story of the frozen food family.

During the 1940s along the River Tyne there was smoke and clouds. The smoke was from coal burning to power the ships that were being built by all of the workers. The reason we needed lots of ships was because people were going to fight with guns in the war. The ships carried people, guns, cars and food.They built the ships using cranes because the parts of the ships were so heavy. In the 1940s people traveled along the river in trams. There was cobbled stones on the ground.

Oh yes, I’m Lady Penelope. I have lots of money and live in a big house. I have 2 children, a maid, a gardener and a 4 dogs.

What do you do? Nothing, I don’t have a job. I already have lots of money!

fun?

I usually go out for lunch with my friends. I love to go on cruises, spend weekends away and walking my jobs.

How did you feel

when your necklace was stolen?

Oh I cried and cried! I was very upset. I was given that necklace from my Grandmother and it was very special to me. I felt terrible about the whole thing!

How do you feel now

that the bear is locked up in the Zoo?

I have mixed feeling about it to be honest. I am pleased that justice has been done, but I do feel a bit sorry for the bear. I don’t think he realised he was hurting anyone.

How much was the

necklace worth?

It is worth a lot of money. Over one million pounds! It’s priceless to me!

Do you think that

you can be friends with the bear?

Well I think the bear is very sorry for what he did. So perhaps we can be friends when he gets out of the Zoo. Who knows!

THIS WEEK, ‘MY LIFE’ COLUMNIST, EMILY CONDIE TELLS US ABOUT HER LIFE AND HER LOVE OF BOOKS.

“I love books. Book reading takes up most of my spare time, apart from dancing...that’s my favourite. Still, reading happens everyday in my house. Whether it’s a newspaper or newsletter, reading is so important to me.

One day I hope to be an author. I have read all of the ‘Famous 5’ books and most of the Jaqueline Wilson books.

It isn’t just me who loves reading though. My little brother and Dad like to read too. I normally read for an hour in bed before turning off the light.

Sometimes I even read in secret in bed with my reading light! My Dad reads boring classics and my brother reads books about Lego, but I like Enid Blyton the best!”

I started playing when I was 7 years old and I played for Bedlington Juniors.We had to run around for 45mins with a football to get warmed up before we played.I have now been playing football for 2 years. I play for Cramlington Juniors. In April I am going to a tournament in Filey near Scarborough. We will be there for 3 days and 2 nights. If we win the tournament we will be the Filey winners 2012,and we will get a trophy. I play up front or midfield. This year we might have a better chance of winning as last year we came third.

This week Acorn Press were delighted to help the Queen once again. her Ballroom has been painted for her forthcoming celebrations - everywhere is white. The queen feels it is in need of some decorations to turn it into a spectacular room for dancing and music. She has asked the reporters to put a bit of sparkle into this very important room.

Glitter balls were decided upon - the reporters used fabric, paint, sequins and other bright, colourful, shiny materials. to make the balls glitter and sparkle.

In order to decorate the walls the reporters found old cd,s which reflect the light just like mirrors (of which the Queen is particularly fond). They found all sorts of glittery materials to decorate them. Unfortunately the Queen is unable to collect them for a while so they will be on show in Windsor Castle for the time being.

This year we celebrate the 100th anniversary of Robert Falcon Scott and his team of explorers, and their journey to the South Pole. Robert (or Scott of the Antarctic as he is famously known) was racing against the Norwegians in 1912 but sadly did not make it back. On the way back he and his team died from the extreme cold weather. I think Robert felt sad and cold.In January 2012 Blue Peter presenter, Helen Skelton

travelled to Antarctica, and on to the South Pole by kite skiing and cycling on a special snow bike. Her journey was for Sport Relief.Robert had far less equipment than Helen. He had a thick coat but Helen had lots of layers and more modern clothing. Her tent was better equipped and designed to cope with the strong winds. She would have

eaten lots of sweets to keep her energy levels up too.It is thanks to explorers like Robert Falcon Scott and his team that we know of these places, and know how difficult it is to live and travel across it.Helen Skelton did an amazing thing of traveling to the South Pole for Sport Relief. In January this year Felicity Aston became the first woman explorer to ski across Antarctica alone. When she got there she explored making angels in the snow. She is also a writer and adventurer. She travelled 1744 km in 59 days all by herself.

Before this expedition Felicity also led a group of women explorers to the South Pole and the expedition took 38 days. She was part of the first all woman team to finish the the Polar challenge which is a 360 mile endurance race across the Canadian Arctic.

Antarctica’s ice-sheets have built up over many years.Antarctica is further away from the equator than any other continent.The coldest temperature - 89.2 degrees celcisus was recorded there. This means that it is very cold.Polar bears are NOT found in the Antarctic.

Olive Stein turned to reporters in Press Office Four to assist her after a devastating flood threatened newspaper production in her Glasgow office. Reporters listened in horror as Olive explained the flood water had been cleared but printing equipment was still very wet. She asked reporters to find out which type of paper was best to help mop up the area. Reporters had to find out which material was the most ABSORBENT.Reporters designed a fair experiment in which the absorbency of blue school paper towels, value tissues and kitchen towel was tested.The experiment established that the most absorbent paper was the kitchen towel. This managed to soak up all the water using the least number of pieces.Olive was informed and has now has ordered 100 boxes of kitchen towel rolls for the Glasgow office.

Testing Absorbency: A Fair Test By Press Office 4

1. Cut pieces of the three different types of paper. Make sure they are all the same size or it won’t be a fair test. We used pieces that were 7cm square.

2. Squirt 15mls of water onto a plate (we used a measuring syringe to make sure there was exactly 15mls of water).

3. Carefully put on a piece of paper onto the puddle of water and wait for it to absorb the water. (If it doesn’t absorb all the water you need to add another piece of paper). Remember to count each piece of paper you put on.

4. Continue until all the water is absorbed into the paper and there is none left on the plate

FILM REVIEW

This week reporters in Press Office Four responded to t h e c h a l l e n g e o f i n v e s t i g a t i n g w h i c h materials Olive Stein should give to her reporters in Antarctica to help keep them warm. Reporters discussed how to plan a test to see which material is the best insulator - fleecy fabric( 1 0 0 % p o l y e s t e r ) , aluminium foil or bubble wrap. At first reporters considered wrapping the materials around people and then taking their temperature to see who was the warmest. However, after c a re f u l c o n s i d e r a t i o n

reporters decided this would not be a fair test b e c a u s e w e a l l h av e d i f f e r e n t b o d y temperatures. Instead, it was decided to wrap the materials round jars and fill each jar with hot water. The temperature would then be taken to ensure they were all the same. The jars would then be left and the temperature of the water recorded every 15 minutes. In this way they could establish which material would help keep the water warmest for longest. Results of the investigation will be revealed next week!
