INTERVIEW
The state-of-the-art technology and
safety features Klopotek Cloud is built on
In an interview about modern IT and data security, Peter Karwowski, CTO and Deputy CEO of the Klopotek Group, and Marco Losavio, Man-aging Director of Klopotek Software & Technology Services Italia and Deputy CTO, explain the technology features of the newly established Klopotek Cloud offering.
How did Klopotek manage to make their
reliable, leading CRR solution – covering
all essential contracts, rights, and royalties
processes – available as a Cloud service?
Peter: This has been achieved by using
our STREAM apps as a foundation, in
addition to the add-ons that are based
on our STREAM Development Frame-
work that supports state-of-the-art
cloud development. The Klopotek Cloud
service is operated as a multi-tenant
environment, so deployment processes
are very smooth, and it is easy to get new
customers ‘on board’.

Klopotek solution using one singular
instance per customer, while the Cloud
Solution is a multi-tenant service, so it
has been specifically designed to feature
physical data separation and applica-
tions that can be shared between many
customers.
Peter: In comparison to SaaS, an offer-
ing based on the Classic Line, Klopotek
Cloud provides many more features and
a much better, user-centric interface, as
it is based on the STREAM platform. The
apps running on STREAM offer a broader
range of functionalities than the Classic
Line modules, especially in the area of
CRR – Contracts, Rights, and Royalties.
Marco: Going a little bit into more detail
about the technology behind the Klopo-
tek Cloud offering, the STREAM solution
is, by design, scalable and web-based,
making it ideal for being deployed in a
cloud hosting environment. The built-in
flexibility of STREAM allows a company
to run the solution either in the cloud
or on premise – with the same set of
features and reliability for both options.
In what aspects does Klopotek Cloud
differ from Klopotek SaaS – a service
that was introduced some years ago?
Marco: Klopotek SaaS – short for Soft-
ware as a Service – is a way to access the
Marco: Yes, it should indeed be stressed
that Klopotek Cloud for CRR, based on
STREAM, provides many more options
and optimized workflow support to help
our customers to achieve their goals.
How can Klopotek ensure that Klopotek
Cloud for CRR is available 24/7 on any
type of device?
Peter: Our Cloud Service is operated at
secure data centers that are located in
different time zones. A global organiza-
tion that is part of the Klopotek Group
secures the operations and services, in-
cluding continuous monitoring of avail-
ability, performance, and security.
Marco: The data centers that Klopotek
has chosen are geographically distribut-
ed and equipped according to the terri-
tories our customers operate in and their
individual privacy needs. These centers
provide their services 24/7, so we can
guarantee business continuity.
How can Klopotek ensure that data in
their Cloud is safe?
Peter: Our regular compliance, penetra-
tion, and disaster recovery tests ensure
data privacy and protection. Klopotek
Cloud is fully managed and operated by
us at ISO-27001, SOC1 / SOC2-compliant
data centers.
Marco: As already mentioned, the data is
physically separated and segregated, so
all files that are stored in a center can
only by accessed by their owner. There is
no way, even if errors should occur when
using the apps in the Klopotek Cloud,
that data from another tenant can be
opened.
Peter: Plus, the security of our Cloud
services is continually being checked by
third-party auditors, such as the Mozilla
Observatory and Qualys, where we get
impressive results.
Why is there no configuration effort
when selecting Klopotek Cloud?
Marco: The Klopotek STREAM for CRR
solution has been designed by reusing
the powerful configuration mechanisms
established by us in the past, plus a spe-
cialized team of our consultants focused
on preconfiguring this new service for
most standard scenarios and require-
ments in publishing.

ant data centers.
Peter: Right, in more general terms, our
pre-configuration is based on industry
best practices: Klopotek has almost 30
years of experience in implementing
solutions for publishers.
Marco: There are many benefits of se-
lecting a preconfigured solution: data
transfer and integration is simplified,
so there is no need to do an integration
project.
Peter: Yes, if you select Klopotek Cloud
for CRR, you can start working immedi-
ately, in an easy way, using a basic con-
figuration. The number of your processes
in the Cloud can grow with your business
requirements step by step.
To companies that are interested, Klopo-
tek offers a free trial period using test
data. How is data migration and integra-
tion done to enable a publisher to start
working in a productive environment
when the trial period is over?
Peter: For each type of data we offer
different migration options. It starts
with simple Excel templates if there is
only a small amount of data, followed
by the option of sending the data in a
pre-defined format. Customers can also
hand over their raw data to us, and we
will migrate it for them as a service. In
any case, Klopotek will support them in
finding the best solution.
Marco: Additionally, as I already stated,
one of the foundations the new STREAM
solution is built on is to reuse and share
the reliable database that has been
working extremely well for our custom-
ers for almost 30 years. Of course, it has
been enhanced: it is much more flexible
than in the past for importing and merg-
ing large amounts of data, and there are
new formats for the processes, such as
Excel sheets, as mentioned by Peter.
Why is Klopotek Cloud available at gen-
uine low cost?
Marco: One of the principles of the
STREAM applications set is ‘reusing’.
This allows sharing between Cloud
customers the same components that
are, as explained, multi-tenant by de-
fault. And this is also a key element
for saving resources, while, of course,
ensuring that all users have enough
resources for best performances. Scal-
ing up costs less than replicating
entire environments.
Peter: To operate the Klopotek Cloud for
CRR service, you only need a browser on
any of your devices – you don’t have to
pay for any additional IT infrastructure
costs. And as Klopotek Cloud makes use
of a shared organization and infrastruc-
ture, it is a cost-effective alternative to
operating a system on premise.

Marco: While infrastructure costs – in-
cluding fees for the services and soft-
ware of third parties – and dependencies
on in-house specialists are significantly
lowered, integration with other systems
is easy because of the comprehensive
REST APIs that are part of the STREAM
architecture stack.
Why is Klopotek Cloud a unique offering
that no other competitor can currently
provide to their customers?
Peter: For one thing, there is the unique
package of our CRR apps and add-ons,
providing an unrivaled set of functional-
ities – powerful and fun to use. In addi-
tion to this, we don’t know of any other
solution that is operated on the model
Marco and I described: employing mod-
ern technology in such a way to optimize
and reduce the operational costs while
making available all the benefits to the
publisher, at low cost, as you said.
Marco: As a result of our preconfigu-
ration efforts and the many options of
Klopotek Cloud for CRR – from app and
add-on selection to the data migration
models we described – we can offer a
solution tailored to the needs of large
publishing enterprises but also small and
mid-sized organizations. Additionally,
we have been able to cover the entire
process chain for CRR because there is a
history we respect and ‘reuse’, so to say,
properly – our knowledge in the field of
publishing, gained in cooperation with
our customers. We don’t know other
providers that are able to scale a com-
prehensive solution like ours in such a
flexible way.
Peter: Bottom line, using Klopotek
Cloud, publishers no longer need to
ponder or worry about infrastructure
and software. They simply – and only –
pay for what they get: optimal support
for the individual business processes they
need, at a monthly rate.
Marco, Peter, thanks for providing these
insights.
