The Solemnity of Our Lord

Jesus Christ the King (John 18.33b-37)

Today as a Church, we conclude our liturgical year and celebrate the Feast of Christ the King. The Gospel we proclaim shows the great mystery of our faith: In the moment of his crucifixion, Jesus is shown to be King and Savior of all.

Luke's Gospel has been loaded with surprises: the poor are rich, sinners find salvation, the Kingdom of God is found in our midst. Here we see the greatest surprise of all. We are confronted with the crucified Jesus, whom faith tells us is King and Savior of all. The iro-ny is that the inscription placed on the cross, perhaps in mockery, contains the profoundest of truth. As the leaders jeer, the thief crucified by his side recognizes Jesus as Messiah and King, and finds salvation.

Jesus is King, but not the kind of king we might have imagined or ex-pected. His kingship was hidden from many of his contemporaries, but those who had the eyes of faith were able to see. As modern disciples of Jesus, we, too, struggle at times to recognize Jesus as King. Today's Gos-pel invites us to make our own judgment. With eyes of faith, we, too, rec-ognize that Jesus, the crucified One, is indeed King and Savior of all.

THE SOLEMNITY OF CHRIST THE KING November 24, 2019

Parish Pastoral Planning continued…..

The Second Core Directives….. (ii) Opportunities for Prayer, Spiritual Formation and Enrichment

In addition to the Sunday Eucha-rist, parishes will strive to provide opportunities for prayer, spiritual formation and enrichment.

The Sacrament of Reconciliation is central to the spiritual life of the faithful. Priests will make the Sac-rament of Reconciliation regularly

and easily available to the faithful throughout the year, with special opportunities offered in Advent and Lent. Ongoing formation will be offered to confessors to assist them in this sacred ministry.

The devotional life of faith in our parishes will be supported and strengthened through frequent opportunities for Eucharis-tic Adoration and Marian devotion. Chapels for perpetual ado-ration of Our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament are to be encour-aged throughout the archdiocese, and churches should re-main open as much as is possible so that people may visit them regularly for prayer. Marian devotion is to be fostered in every parish and in the archdiocese, and all are encouraged to pray the Angelus and the Rosary daily.

In addition to Marian devotion, the parish will foster these important spiritual practices: praying the Liturgy of the Hours, parish charismatic prayer groups for those who desire this form of prayer, processions and devotions that are culturally significant, the practice of Lectio Divina and Bible study. Those who desire spiritual guidance concerning different forms of prayer found within our faith tradition will be support-ed by the Catholic Pastoral Centre and representatives of various Catholic spiritual traditions as appropriate.

The parish family will offer opportunities for parishioners to journey together on pilgrimage and to pray in community through parish missions and retreat days, thus providing spir-itual sustenance and enrichment.

Let us pray! For those who are sick members of our par-ish and those who love and minister to them.

NEW SUNDAY MISSALS 2020 Sunday Missals are on sale in the parish hall after all Sunday Masses. The cost is $5.00 each.

mas Envelopes will also be available in the pews and lobby.

REMEMBERING THE PARISH IN YOUR WILL

November is “Make a Will” month! Have you considered remem-bering our parish in your will? The church is where we experience many important moments in our lives. A bequest is a beautiful way to express your faith and gratitude for a lifetime of bless-ings—a lasting legacy of love that will help the Church continue with its many ministries. When making your will, please consider a bequest to (Name of Parish). For more information, please call the parish office or the Development Office of the Archdiocese at 416-934-3411, ext. 519

ary 2020 as credit will not be issued if they are used earlier.

PRE-AUTHORIZED GIVING PROGRAM

The Archdiocese of Toronto has established a Pre-Authorized Giving Plan (PAG) to assist you in your support of the work of Prince of Peace Parish, through your regular parish offerings (this does not include special collections). The Plan is adminis-tered through the Office of Development of the Arch-diocese of Toronto and tax receipts will be issued for all offertory gifts. If you would like to enroll, brochure and enrollment forms are available at the parish of-fice.

WINTER CLOTHING DRIVE CAMPAIGN

This Campaign is being run for the Good Shepherd Centre. A box will be placed in the church lobby beginning this weekend. We need winter jackets; hoodies; winter boots; underwear; socks; gloves; mittens and hats (in good condition). Good Shepherd is a place that promotes hu-

man dignity, where people come first and where the ’last’ - the homeless, the marginalized—come first of all. As we wait for the coming of Christ this Advent season, let us welcome him by shar-ing our resources with those who are in need and let us always give “with joy in our hearts”.
