Letter from the Hello Seamonkeys!

Happy Holidays! I am so happy I get to share this holiday season with the best people I know: YOU! Please take this Winter Break to relax and unwind from the stresses of school, but don't forget about incredible service opportunities available in our community. Take a day to feed the homeless or volunteer at Magical Forest. As we receive this winter, let's remember to give back to volunteer at Magical Forest. As we receive this winter, let's remember to give back to the people that provide us with so much! Also, please do not forget that District Convention is approaching VERY soon so get those registration fees in! I can't wait to celebrate this year of service with you!

“HAPPY 100TH ANNIVERSARY,” SAYS 2014–15 KIWANIS PRESIDENT JOHN BUTTON. “THE LIST OF OUR ACCOMPLISHMENTS IS LONG. THE NUMBER OF LIVES THE KIWANIS FAMILY HAS IMPACTED IS IMMEASURABLE.”

The holidays are a special time of year, and are also very exciting. The ability to enjoy this time with fellow key club members and giving to the community through the action of bell ringing was amazing. First, to help the Salvation Army in the mission to uphold the standards of human needs was really satisfying to me. Along with this, Christmas caroling was done and it was extremely enjoyable to be able to sing songs with friends and have fun while doing it. Though, there were a small amount of members there and that was surprising as it was a phenomenal event. This is one of my favorite events from last year as it brought so much spirit and made the event. This is one of my favorite events from last year as it brought so much spirit and made the holiday season better by an incredible amount.

At the Kettle Bell Ringing, volunteers spent their time fundraising money for the Salvation Army outside a local grocery market while at the Jingle Bell Run, members were in charge of both helping out at registering runners/walkers, and passing out refreshments at the end of the course. Kudos to the members who dedicated their time to service that one December day!

Attending the Santa Run has been my favorite tradition that I've been through for about 3 years now, and EVERYTIME I go I always get a nice Christmas feeling because of all the Santa's and cute dogs in costumes. Not only does it keep my spirit up and prepared for Christmas and holiday service, I met some people from Circle K, and I'm just really excited to be joining that when I graduate.

The State of the World's Mothers Report 2014 is an annual report by Save the Children, which compiles statistics on the health of mothers and children and produces rankings of more than 170 countries, showing where mothers fare best and where they face the greatest hardships. The rankings are presented in the Mothers’ Index, which has been produced annually since the year 2000. The 2014 report examines the impact of humanitarian crises on maternal, newborn and child survival in countries consistently ranked as the most difficult places to be a child survival in countries consistently ranked as the most difficult places to be a mother. Key findings: Each day, an estimated 800 mothers and 18,000 young children die from largely preventable causes. Over half of these maternal and under-5 deaths take place in fragile settings, which are at high risk of conflict and are particularly vulnerable to the effects of natural disasters.

We went around the neighborhood collecting various cans for our canned food drive, competing to see which group can collect the most cans. It was a fun but competitive race in which we all raised cans to give out. “The Canned Food Drive was an amazing experience where I was able to interact more withthe members. We were able to raise 347 cans and it took a lot of teamwork to achieve it.”
