The 6-on-5 generates half of the scores in a game. The coach needs to spend time on developing his or her extra offensive plays. In these eleven 6-on-5 formations different offensive rotations are used to create a different offensive rotations are used to create a freeman.
In other 6-on-5’s the offense needs to read the defense to see how the guards are positioning themselves. It is a chess match between the offense and the defense. May the best coached team win.

Formation 11
The guards X-4 and X-5 are using a soft drop and off the outside players but closer to the post players. In a stroke or two they can attack the outside shooter or drop down to the post shooter. 1 and 6 are open.to the post shooter. 1 and 6 are open.
4 and 5 need to read the defense and see if the shot will come from the outside or 1 and 6.

The offense rotates to create freeman at 2 by shifting 4 and 5 over to the right and sliding 2 up to pop for a shot.
The shift of the outside players takes X-4 and X-5 away from the posts. By 2 slowing move up the X-1 guard is from the posts. By 2 slowing move up the X-1 guard is confused as to he should stay on the goal post and defend a “spot” or go after the 2-post player.
Ball is passed 4 to 2 for the shot.

X-1 stays on the post expecting a 6-1 pass and the 1-player to shoot.
The ball is passed into the 2-post for the 6-2 shot.
In this series of 11 extra formations the guards position themselves to distract and confound the passer and force the players to read the defense and find the freeman. The offense by rotations and find the freeman. The offense by rotations and slides tries to create a freeman.
There is always a freeman on a 6-on-5. No matter how the guard disguise the freeman or try to disrupt the offense—someone is open.

Many of the offensive 6-on-5 formation deal with the 1-spot player and the 2-post player and the guard they share X-1. This is a 2-on-1 situation that rotations, slides and pops create to isolate the X-1 rotations, slides and pops create to isolate the X-1 guard on one offensive player. The X-1 player cannot cover both players. The 1-player and the 2-player work together with the outside passers to read the defense and find the open man.
