SCHELL SCHOOL HAPPENINGS:
Welcome – back to Mrs. Alisha Demmings! Mrs. Demmings will be returning from her maternity leave
on Monday, April 3, 2017.
Farewell – to Ms. Elvira Knorr who filled in for Mrs. Demmings until the end of March. It was great to
have you at Schell School – you will be missed by staff and students! In the short time that Ms. Knorr was
at Schell, she helped coach Jr. Girls volleyball, refereed volleyball, ran Art Club after school every
Tuesday, and introduced the Literacy Fair and Talent Show to Schell. We hope we will see you from time
to time subbing at Schell!
ATTENDANCE – REMINDER we need to know from PARENTS when students will be missing.
Ideally, we would like a phone call, text or an email ([email protected] or Text: 551-4028, or
[email protected] or Text 731-7778 ) from the parents first thing in the morning of the day that
the student will be absent. If this is not possible, a note or phone call the following day would be
acceptable. Your cooperation with this is appreciated! Thank you.
Talent Show – Thursday, March 30 @ 1:00 p.m.
Please come out to support our students’ many talents. Our students are welcome to perform a musical
number, dance routine, skit, etc.
We will be taking a silver collection at the talent show, with all proceeds going to the “Children’s Wish
Maker Program”.
Winter Fun Day – Students from Grade 5 – 11 were divided into teams and had a fun day of curling on
March 1st. Thank you to the students, staff and volunteers for such a great day. Special thanks to those
who put in the curling ice!
Ski Trip to Mission Ridge – Students from grades 7 – 11 went on their annual ski trip to Mission Ridge
on Tuesday, March 14th as part of their Phys. Ed class. The students had a great day of skiing and
snowboarding. Thank you to Carol Paquette for driving, and to Ms. Knorr and Mr. Kurbis, our teacher
supervisors.
LITERACY FAIR – Our First Literacy Fair was held on Friday, March 17, 2017. Parents, grandparents,
community members, staff and fellow students enjoyed presentations by the Grade 1 – 12 students of
Schell School. Each student chose a favorite book and created a display about the book, why they liked it,
what it was about and a little about the author. Many took it a step further and did research on the topic,
added art work, playdoh sculptures, props, etc. They also reported orally about their book to all those who
stopped by their display. Congratulations on some great board displays, art work, oral and written
presentations! You should be very proud of yourselves! Thanks Ms. Knorr for the great idea!
All visitors to the fair were entered in a draw for a variety of books that they could choose from.
Congratulations to: Andy Metz, Lora Bast, Wes Maerz, Sarah Goad, Tammy Dean, Michelle Ehmann,
Tracey Mengel, Mary Lou Selinger, Jacob Ehmann, and Stacey Burks!
