FlightSafety International and Sikorsky Celebrate the Opening of S-76C+™ and S-76C++™ Simulator in Singapore

On April 5, FlightSafety International announced the grand opening of the new Sikorsky S-76C+™ and S-76C++™ helicopter simulator at FlightSafety’s new Singapore-based Learning Centre. The center provides training services to regional operators of the Sikorsky S-76C+ and S76C++ medium multirole helicopter, with training missions being conducted on a FS1000 full-motion flight simulator that can be configured to represent both rotary wing platforms.

“We are pleased to announce that training for the Sikorsky S-76C+ and S-76C++ is now underway in Singapore,” said Daniel MacLellan, Senior Vice President, Operations. “The Level D qualification of the simulator and PART 142 approval of the Learning Center demonstrates FlightSafety’s ability to meet the most stringent standards and provide the highest quality training programs using advanced technology simulators.”

Training services are being offered at FlightSafety International’s new Learning Centre, located at the Singapore Technologies (ST) Aerospace Academy in the northeastern Seletar Aerospace Park, which was inaugurated on April 5.

The facility is equipped with the company’s new FS1000 full-motion simulator that features its latest Vital 1100 visual system, which promises to meld photo-realistic imagery with the latest terrain information with geo-specific satellite images for high-fidelity training.

The simulator achieved FAA Level D certification in March, with training already being conducted at the facility. “Singapore is a very attractive place to do training [as well as] maintenance, repair, and overhaul, and the [Learning Centre] could be the first seed to demonstrate our intention to do more here,” Nurit told IHS Jane’s reporter at the event.

The Irish Coast Guard has achieved the significant milestone of 10,000 Sikorsky

S-92® flight hours in its Irish Search-and-Rescue (SAR). The five new technology

Sikorsky S-92 aircraft have completed more than 3100 missions, operating from

the bases in Sligo, Waterford, Shannon and Dublin. With the introduction of the

S-92, the service ushered in a stepped change in operational effectiveness and

flight safety. The fleet is equipped with state-of-the-art autopilot functions, auto

hover and flight director upgrades. This has led to improved safety and higher

levels of aircraft availability.

Chris Hodson, CHC General Operations Manager for SAR, praised the aircrew

and engineers at all four bases. “We achieved 10,000 flight hours ahead of initial

projections, thanks to the collective dedication of our people, who are putting

the advanced capability of these aircraft to operational effect every day, while

maintaining the highest levels of safety. I’m proud to say that the Search-and-

Rescue operation has a record of high efficiency and reliability, maintaining

more than 97% availability for the people of Ireland and our customer, the

Irish Coastguard.”

A significant percentage of SAR missions ensure critically ill people reach

hospitals within the so called ‘golden hour’, giving them the best chance of

a full recovery. For heart attack victims in rural communities, ensuring fast

access to a specialist cardiac unit is vital. The speed and reliability of response

is critical because the heart muscle starts to die within 80-90 minutes after it

stops getting blood, and within six hours, almost all the affected parts of the

heart could be irreversibly damaged.

The in-country warehousing of spare parts provides Australian S-76® and S-92® commercial helicopter operators quicker access to materials and is part of Sikorsky’s continued effort to improve customer support.

“By positioning inventory parts closer to customers we are able to deliver parts in hours rather than days. This expediency improves aircraft readiness and reduces the operators’ overall expenses,” said Joe Triompo, vice president, Sikorsky’s Customer Support. “This has been a joint effort working with operators to expand our support presence to meet fleet requirements for improved operational readiness for all their critical missions.

In March, Sikorsky announced that it had opened an FSL in Stavanger, Norway, to support one of the largest S-92® helicopter operating regions in the world. Sikorsky expects to also open an FSL in Aberdeen, Scotland this year.

Skyline Helicopter Technologies Becomes the Newest Sikorsky-Authorized Customer Support Center for S-76® Helicopters

On Friday, April 15, Sikorsky joined Skyline Helicopter Technologies in a press conference to announce the selection of Skyline as a Sikorsky- Authorized Customer Support Center for S-76® helicopters.

“Skyline has been doing business for 25 years. They have an excellent reputation for quality of service and that was very important for Sikorsky - to find someone in the area who’s going to help our customer support and those relationships,” said Jeanette Eaton, Regional Sales Executive, U.S. & Canada.

The town of Sudbury is not new to the helicopter industry. The first commercially registered and certified helicopter produced in 1947 was flown to Ontario where it was retrofitted with an electromagnetic system for finding magnetic anomalies, and then flown to Sudbury for evaluations of its airborne geophysics.

“I see it as a starting point,” Skyline President, Joe Natale said to reporters. “It’s going to allow us to grow the company and transition aerospace into Sudbury. As a result of this, I will be planning some fairly large investment into Skyline. With our partners, with Desjardins at the business center,

we are planning a whole revamp of our landing area, be adding special tools, training, and adding new individuals.”

As part of the agreement, Skyline will acquire additional special tooling and equipment and send maintenance personnel for product and service training.

Sikorsky has more than 20 Customer Support Centers worldwide and is continuing to expand its service capabilities to where customers operate .

Sikorsky has opened an expandable 3,500-square-foot Forward Stocking Location in Brisbane, Australia at Sikorsky Helitech, a Sikorsky company. The new FSL will support the S-92® and S-76® helicopter fleet in operation. Supplementing this new initiative located in Brisbane, Sikorsky Helitech has also placed a full time representative in Perth, Western Australia. Helicopter Industry Meets in Prague for Annual HeliOffshore Conference

Sikorsky is a key OEM participant to HeliOffshore, aligning safety strategies from the oil and gas industry and regional regulators with those of operators and manufacturers, creating a powerful alliance that will further enhance safety.

In May, HeliOffshore, whose mission is to enhance the safety offshore helicopter operations, held its annual conference May 13-15 in Prague, Czech Republic.

This important safety event was well attended by Sikorsky with representatives that included Sikorsky President Dan Schultz, George Klug, vice president and Chief Safety Officer, Nathalie Previte, vice president, Strategy and Business Development, Dana Fiatarone, vice president, Commercial Systems & Services, Nicholas Lappos, Sikorsky Tech Fellow, Alan Walling, director of commercial programs, and Ray Piselli, vice president, Contracts, Asset Management & Offset (CAMO) for MST.

The objectives of the conference reflect the resolve of HeliOffshore’s members to make the greatest difference to helicopter safety through discussions around critical safety-related initiatives and by dedicating resources to bring them to fruition.

“We are deeply committed to HeliOffshore’s ultimate objective, which is to protect the lives of every person who travels offshore,” said George Klug, vice president and Chief Safety Officer. “Sikorsky is committed to enhancing flight safety, sharing best safety-practices and cooperating with independent safety initiatives with customers, operators and industry partners to further improve safety.”
