Our Core Values are

Respect, Resilience, Responsibility,

Enjoyment and Challenge. Our re-

porters asked Jamie from Year 5,

Witches class, what Respect and Re-

silience means to him. Jamie said

that, “Respect is when someone is

alone and by themselves you go and

ask them if they want to join in.” Re-

silience is, “If you have a maths ques-

tion and you are really stuck you car-

ry on trying until you get it right.”

What do you get if you pour hot water down a rabbit hole?

Hot cross bunnies!

How does an Easter bunny put out out a fire?

It uses a fire eggs-tinguisher!

Why don’t you tell a joke to an East-er egg?

Because it might crack up!

One last ‘yoke’...

What happened when the bunny met the bunny of his dreams?

They lived hoppily ever after!

EGGS-TRA! EGGS-TRA!

Last Thursday, Rudston PTA held a fantastic Easter Crafternoon! There were lots of activities to take part in, including: egg design-ing, sock-puppet bunnies, emoji plates, bookmarks, paper patch-work eggs, magic tattoos and face painting. There was also a very egg-citing Easter Egg Hunt, and a large banquet of cakes and sweets, fit for an Easter Bunny!

Laila, a Rudston pupil who was designing bookmarks, said, “It is very fun and the bookmarks are pretty!” Also, one of the parents added that, “It’s nice to see all the staff helping out and the children having lots of fun!”

Ruby-June, from Year 4, said, “I really, really liked the fair, espe-cially the sock bunnies!”

Jessica, from Year 6, explained how to make a sock bunny. “Firstly, you choose a coloured sock out of the four options. Then you fill it with some white rice, and tie an elastic band halfway up. After that, fill a little bit more rice to make the head, and make ears out of the remaining sock. Finally draw a face on.”

Mrs Pierce commented, “The PTA staff and children had an eggs-traordinary time eggs-ploring the craft fair. They really had a great time!”

On Tuesday 7th of March M&M Pro-ductions performed a show called “The Jungle Book”. There were four actors playing many characters each. The story was about a man cub called Mowgli who was left in the jun-gle with the wolf couple Akela and Raksha whilst his mother and father were tackling with a ferocious tiger called Shere Khan. His father was

killed but his moth-er fled to the safety of the man village. Mowgli grew up in the wild before

finding out who his mother was and defeating Shere Khan. Thomas Wylie, a Year 2 pupil, said: “It was so good because at the end I was happy that Mowgli was able to find his mum again.”

We also watched an Anti-Bullying assembly called Just Joshing! Josh, who is the main character , got bul-lied by Jack and Dotty. Josh goes to school the long way round trying to

avoid the evil two-some; at home Josh was also cyber bullied. It showed how mean

people in this world can actually be. In the end Josh stands up to the bullies, and it did him good. The main point from this play is … Don’t be a bunch of bul-lies!

Several weeks ago, a theatre group called ‘Travelling Companions’ came into the infant hall to perform a play named ‘Five More Minutes’ for Reception up to Year 2. Along with a fun performance, there was music made by a wide range instru-

ments. All of the infants really en-joyed the show, as it allowed them to interact with the play and be a part of a great form of enter-tainment.

The Book People arrived in March to help us celebrate World Book Day! Our reading Advo-cates visited the bus to pick out

books for our classes and libraries.

The pupils of Rud-ston have been on lots of trips this term! These in-clude: Leasowe Lighthouse, Chester

Zoo, Delamere For-est, Chester, a range of museums and lots more!

As ever, there are so many sports

activities going on in Rudston, in-

cluding cross country, football,

swimming, polo, dance and la-

crosse! Read on to find out more

details of what has been happening.

On the 16th of March 2017 Rudston

Primary School’s year 5/6 played

against Childwall CofE. Unfortu-

nately Rud-

ston lost

with the

score being

2-0 to

Childwall CofE. A member of the

team said,” It was a close game but

they came out the better team. We

put up a difficult game for them

though.”

In cross county both year 5 teams

qualified for the championships.

Both Years 5 and 6 teams have been

training every Wednesday some-

times on the field and sometimes

outside of school.

On the 23rd

of March

Year 5/6

played a

football match against Much Wool-

ton. One player said, “In the end the

score was 5-1 to Much Woolton but

last time we played them in year 3

they beat us 23-1 so it’s a big im-

provement definitely.”

Last January,

Year 5/6

football

team went

to a tournament at Liverpool Acad-

emy. There were 6 players on the

pitch at a time for the matches.

Rudston won 2 out of 4 matches in

the tournament resulting in them

coming 3rd!

On the 30th of March, Year 6 swam

for Rudston in a swimming gala

tournament. The girls came 4th and

the boys came 1st, putting them

through to the next round!

Reception, this half term, have been talking about their learning challenge question… New beginnings. Daniel, from Tiddlers, says, “My favourite part is when the baby chicks hatched and we named one Bob.“ Also, Olivia likes: searching for Mini Beasts!!

This topic has only just started but they are really getting into it! Lots of them are excited.

This half term , Year 1 have been learning about amazing Dinosaurs. Their learning challenge question is …...Could a dinosaur live on earth? Katie, a year 1 pupil, says, “We got to make up questions about dinosaurs with Year 2.” Year 1 really love this topic. Rebecca, from Unicorns class, said, “I most enjoyed finding out what the dinosaurs eat.” Also, they have been on a wonderful trip to a museum about dinosaurs.

Year 2’s Learning Challenge this half term was about islands. We inter-viewed Rico and James (from Stick-men) to get a better insight. They’ve been working on it for two weeks; so far they’ve been doing some writing on islands, but haven’t been on any school trips. Both of their favourite work done was, “At the start when we talked about what you know about islands.”

This half term Year 3’s Learning Chal-lenge topic was how fast can chee-tahs run? They have done lots of fun things like having races to see who’s the fastest. They have learnt a lot, including the fact that Cheetahs are the fastest land animal in the world. Jake, from Crocodiles class, said, “We have learnt about their bones, and what cheetahs look like.”

Year 4’s Learning Challenge question is: Where the Romans Really Rotten?

George and Mia from Minpins class spoke to us: “I like learning about what kind of armour they used to wear and how they knew their ene-mies so well.” said George.

Mia said, ” I like the way they man-aged to take over and conquer so much countries for so long”.

This term, Year 5 have been trying to tackle and answer a tricky question: Why is the rainforest so important to us all? The entire year group highly enjoyed learning about the rainfor-est. Ethan, from Oompa Loompas class, said, “I enjoyed it because we got to learn more facts and activities which helped us.” They’ve learnt that the rainforest is important to everyone because they give clean oxygen and water for Earth’s inhabit-ants.

Year 6 have also been very busy this term and having lots of fun too, by using their wide range of knowledge to complete and take part in great activities. The entire year group in-vestigated the mysterious plant, which popped up in Rudston’s forest area. They developed their scientific skills while still having a great time!

Several weeks ago Rudston found a new, exotic plant in the woods! We had an emergency radio broadcast and all years went to have a look at this mysterious plant. Do you have any ideas where it came from? All year groups did different things like swab for any nearby clues by the plant with agar jelly. We had lots of fun like making stories with the plant and had amazing and WEIRD ideas, it was

great! Daniel from Bogtrotters, Year 6, told us, “ I liked that we had a whole topic on plants and learnt lots of new information.” Also, Aaron from Fantastic Mr Fox, Year 4 told us “ I loved it because it was something mysterious and brand new.” Miss Walters said

“ I think it was a fun and an interesting way to use our Science skills.”

This spring term the eco-warriors have been very

busy, with special events like Waste Week!!

We interviewed Nieve and Jack from Bogtrotters and

Daniel and Eve from BFGs. They all told us that they

have been taking part in Waste Week. In Waste Week

we learnt about making objects better by upcycling!

They have also been recycling paper and plastic!

They all told us that they love recycling but mostly

they said they like recycling because it helps the com-

munity stay nice and green . A few weeks ago, the Eco

Warriors made trophies out of recyclable materials

but they did use glue and tape. At the end of the

month one class won a 1st place trophy, 2nd place

and 3rd place!!

This term, our School Councillors have also been tak-

ing part in a wide range of activities to help the school.

One of the activities in particular included speaking to

the prospective candidates for the new Headteacher

of our school! This involved asking each applicant sev-

eral open-ended questions, to help decide who the

perfect person was. All the candidates gave very de-

tailed answers. Before the

meeting, the Councillors

discussed the questions

they could ask.

Andrew from Foxes class,

said, “It was really hard to keep what we did a secret

from my classmates!” Joe, in Crocodiles class, told us,

“I really enjoyed the experience because not many

other people got to do it!”

Congratulations to Miss Walters, who receives the title

of Rudston Headteacher!

Recommended for Reception children.

The fabulous website

www.lovereading4kids has said: “No

bookshelf is complete

without one,”. It fea-

tures Penguin Blue, star

of the award-winning

Blown Away.

This is a really funny book for Year 1 and

2. The author goes straight into comedy

action for his third adventure for Ham-

ish and his friends. An-

other brilliantly imag-

ined and genuinely ex-

citing caper . Terrific

fun.

This is for our Year 3 and 4. You’ve all

heard of Marie

Curie, Rosalind

Franklin and Ada

Lovelace, pio-

neers in science.

But you probably

haven’t heard of Grace or many others.

This is an inspiring introduction to 50

pioneering women scientists.

Just Call Me Spaghetti

-Hoop Boy is for our

Year 5 and 6 pupils.

This is about a little

boy called Adam. He

always knew that he

was adopted, but that didn’t matter as

he loved his mum. One pupil, age 10,

said - “I loved this book! This could win

so many famous awards for its great-

ness! I will recommend this fabulous

book to all my friends.”

Remember, if you want to recommend a

book, or simply find out more about

new books that other Rudston pupils are

reading, just talk to our wonderful Read-

ing Advocates! They are always available

to chat with you about their love of

reading.
