The Rougemont Review Issue 2 22 September 2017 LATEST NEWS SITE AND FACLITIES UPDATE We are now in week 27 of the esmated 66 week programme with work sll on target for compleon in July 2018. The steel work should be finished this week, with the building then waterght by the end of February. This means we are already working on the fit out plans to ensure the inside of the building is as excing a venue as possible for pupils and visitors alike. For the latest pictures and updates visit the New Build pages on the website. IT UPDATE Over the summer, as part of our plans to upgrade our IT systems, we changed supplier and the School is now supported by Computer World Wales. Work is already taking place to improve the current infrastructure and a strategic plan is being prepared to ensure we operate using the best technology available to suit our needs. Further informaon will be provided shortly. ONGOING MAINTENANCE PROGRAMME We are connuing to improve the physical appearance of the site thanks to the ongoing maintenance programme implemented by our Facilies Department. Work undertaken recently has included: * full refurbishment of several classrooms; * improving walkways and adding safety barriers; * refurbishment of the front of the stable block; * flower planters around the Burge building; * improving signage around the site; * painng of fences, benches and play equipment; * maintenance of astro turf including removal of excess sand. The rolling programme of improvements will connue throughout the year in order to ensure that the current facilies meet the needs of pupils, staff and visitors. Profile of the week Mrs Hicks has been with us at Rougemont School for 6 years, working on our school meal provision. Outside of School, Mrs Hicks can be found enjoying keep fit - when not acng as a taxi service for her 2 children. Her favourite food is Indian or Greek Lamb and she would most like to share a meal with the actor, George Clooney. A thought possibly shared by more than one staff member! Today we meet the ladies who run our catering facility at school. Mrs Rhiannon Hicks who was recently promoted to School Meals Manager and Mrs Petra Glen who is now our Events & Coffee Shop Manager. Favourite song: ‘Nothing Compares to You’ by Sinead O’Connor Well known to Sixth Formers in the Coffee Shop, Mrs Glen has been with Rougemont School for over 18 years! Her love for food extends outside school and she is a great cake maker and decorator, producing beauful birthday and celebraon cakes. She also does charity work for dog rescue. Mrs Glen’s favourite food is pizza and she’d most like to share this with actor, Marn Clunes. Favourite song: ‘Whiter Shade of Pale’ by Procol Harem Mrs Rhiannon Hicks Mrs Petra Glen

There’s no ‘I’ in ‘team’!The theme this week has been all about working together, and how an individual performance within a team can make a big diff erence. Rougemont specialises in teamwork, and this was very evident during the fi rst Senior School House Assemblies where House

PREP TALKReaching for the stars has been a theme in our Recepti on class this week, as the children have been using balloons in their Games lessons. They have been exploring small apparatus, as well as honing their throwing and catching skills, learning how to control an object.

Representati ves were voted in for each House and within each Year group. By my count that now makes 18 new positi ons of responsibility within the School and 18 opportuniti es to make a big diff erence to the number of House points - congratulati ons to all who were voted in!

SPORTS RESULTS - Well done to all our pupils who parti cipated in sporti ng fi xtures last week. Here are some of their key achievements:GIRLS• Hannah Hussain, Beth Parker and Mia Porrett a successfully made it through

to the next round of the netball County Area Trials.• Our U13 Tennis team were runners up in the South Wales Girls Tennis

Finals.• Year 7&8 enjoyed the Cross Country Relays, with a 4th place achieved for

the A Team in both year groups.

BOYS• It was a big day for our U10 and U11 rugby teams last week when they

played Cathedral School and Clift on High in a total of 6 games. With 4 wins and some high scores it was a great start to the season.

• Congratulati ons to Euan Brown, Ben Marshall & Jon Wilner who were picked for the U16 SE Wales Hockey Team.

EUROPEAN DAY OF LANGUAGESTuesday 26th September 2017

Senior School will this year celebrate European Day of Languages. To support the day, the pupils will also be able to enjoy all sorts of European food at both breaktime and lunchtime, whilst listening to European music. More information can be found on the website.

SPORTS AWARDS EVENINGOur annual Sports Awards Evening takes place next week on Wednesday 27th September at 5.00pm.
