We are delighted to welcome our brand new Director of Sport, Kerry Marshall, to Rougemont. Ms Marshall has joined us from Ellesmere College in Shropshire and since her arrival at our wonderful School, she has been impressed with the level of talent shown by our pupils. When asked about her vision of the future for Rougemont Sport, Ms Marshall gave us her answer below:

EVENTS AT
ROUGEMONT
You will learn to be proud of your small achievements, and
to make and work towards long term goals
Sometimes you will become so tired you will want to quit,
but you won’t… winners never quit, and quitters never win.
Some days you will finish the school day ‘too tired’ to go to
training, but you will go anyway.
Sport will teach you to learn to respect, not only yourself,
but other athletes, officials and coaches. It will give you the
opportunity to make lifelong friendships, create lifelong
memories and develop positive habits. When you are out
on the sports field, court, pitch or at the gym you are not in
front of a screen and do not have your head in your books.
You are recuperating and recharging your batteries.
Sport at Rougemont School will provide you with these
opportunities and it will allow you to develop attributes that
will serve you throughout your lives, and if you’re really
lucky, you can make a career out of it!
Miss K Marshall | Director of Sport
Sport will make you more intelligent. It is true. It also
has numerous other benefits for everyone who is willing
to give it a go.
Sport will teach you to be disciplined with your work,
focused during lessons and dedicated in your efforts to
reach your long term goals. Burning off energy allows
you to sleep better, sit still longer at your desk and
reduces your stress levels; a great tonic during exam
season.
It teaches you to take care of your body and the
equipment you use. You will learn to cooperate with
others and to be a good team player, gracious in defeat
and humble in success. This is useful when you are
running your own company in the future.
You will learn to deal with disappointment when you
don’t get selected or don’t win the race that you hoped
to win. By going back to training week after week,
giving it your best shot, you will learn resilience. It can
take hours and hours, years and years of hard work
and practice to create a champion. You will learn that
success does not happen overnight.

Exploring the Jurassic coast
BLUE SKIES, BLUE SEA
Pupils in Year 11 ventured off to the beautiful Jurassic
coast in Dorset last week as part of their GCSE
studies.
Taking in some of the finest scenery Great Britain has
to offer, including places like West Bay, Durdle Door,
Lyme Regis and Lulworth Cove, the field trip is a firm
favourite with pupils who enjoy learning in the great
outdoors. Focusing on coastal management and its
impact on the environment, pupils were able to
discover and learn in the outdoor classroom.
As you can see from the photographs, the weather was
certainly kind to them!
Looking forward to the next one already!
This event is to raise money for the Unit to ensure that
anyone receiving treatment, along with their families, will
be in a comfortable and welcoming environment to give
them the best possible surroundings whilst fighting this
devastating condition. The event is on Saturday 2nd
November, at Rougemont School starting at 7pm. There
will be a three course dinner, bar and live music provided
by the fantastic Velvet Soul, Big Show Band. We will also
be raffling some great prizes during the evening. Tickets
are £45pp or £42.50 if booking a table of 8. Please contact

SENIOR SUBJECT SPOTLIGHT
Business is a very popular subject at Rougemont with
two Year 10 classes embracing the course at GCSE
level.
Head of department, Miss Owen is passionate about
teaching young people the benefits of good business
practice. She inspires the pupils to recognise the
opportunities available to today’s younger generation to
make a difference through business and enterprise.
Year 10 pupils have just started their Business GCSE
course and are currently learning about the core
principles of business planning. Miss Owen also leads
Rougemont’s very first BTEC course in Business,
available to Year 12 pupils for the first time this year.
