THE ROLE OF TECHNOLOGY IN DELIVERING CURRICULIM
- In delivering curriculum the role of technology is very important.- Right at the planning phase of any instruction,
aside from formulating the objectives and among other considerations, there is a need to identify what instructional media are to be utilized in the implementation.
A systematic approach to instructional planning
Each lesson should have a clear idea of :a)General specific goals and
analyze your learnersb)Instructional objectivesc)Contentd)Plan instructional activitiese)Assess instructional media
technologyf)Materials/ choose an
instructional mediag)Implement instruction h)Assessment and evaluation on
how objectives have been achieved.
i)Revise instruction
Instructional media
Instructional media should not be confused with the terms media technology or learning technology.
Instructional media also referred as media technology or learning technology, or simply TECHNOLOGY.
TYPES OF INSTRUCTIONAL MEDIA
1.NON-PROJECTED MEDIA
2.PROJECTED MEDIA
NON PROJECTED MEDIA
oModelso Field StripsoKitso Real objectso Printed MaterialsoVisualsoVisual BoardsoAudio materials
PROJECTED MEDIA
oOverhead transparenciesoOpaque projectionsoSlidesoFilmstripsoFilmsoVideooVCDoDVD
Factors for Technology Selection
1.PRACTICALITY
2.APPROPRIATENESS
3.ACTIVITY/SUITABILITY
4.OBJECTIVE MATCHING
PRACTICALITY
- Is the equipment (hardware)or already prepared lesson material
(software) available? If not, what would be the cost in acquiring the equipment or producing the lesson in audial or visual from?
APPROPRAITENESS
o Is the relation to the learners
o Is the medium suitable to the learner’s ability
to comprehend? Will the medium be a source of plain amusement or entertainment, but not learning.
ACTIVITY/SUITABILITY
Will the chosen media fit the set instructional event, resulting in either information, motivation, or psychomotor or display?
OBJECTIVE-MATCHING
Over-all does the medium help in the learning objective(s)?
The Role of technology in Curriculum Delivery
o Upgrading the quality of the teaching-and-learning in schools?
o Increasing the capability of the teacher to effectively inculcate learning,
and for students to gain mastery of lessons and courses.o Broadening the delivery of education outside the
schools through non-traditional approaches to formal and informal learning such as Open Universities and lifelong learning to adult learners.
3 current trends that could carry on the nature of Education in the future!
1. Paradigm shift from teacher-centered to student-centered approach to learning.
2. The broadening realization that education is not simply a delivery of facts and information, but an educative
process of cultivating the cognitive, affective, psychomotor, and much more the contemplative intelligence of the learners of a new age.3. Increase in the use of new information and communication technology or ICT.
REFLECT
In a proposed mastery approach to instruction, the teacher:
a. Presents the lesson to the whole classb.Assess if learners attained mastery of lessonc. Provide enrichment activities with the use of
media technologyd.Re-mediates the mastery studente. Moves on the next lesson.
SELF-CHECK
Learners say, we learn83% - through the use of sight10% - hearing4% - smell2% - touch1% - taste
