We extend a very special welcome to our friends, and visitors who have joined us on this Feast of the Resurrection of the Lord. We pray that we may experience in our worship the depth of God’s love for us. May our hearts rejoice on this Easter Sunday!

Please call us at the rectory office, (636) 227-7440, if we can be of help to you or if you would like to become a member of our parish.

Page 3: THE RESURRECTION OF THE LORD PRIL HOLY NFANT CATHOLIC … · 20/04/2014  · the resurrection of the lord april 20, 2014 easter sunday - the resurrection of the lord april 20, 2014

THE RESURRECTION OF THE LORD APRIL 20, 2014

Dear Parishioners,

A Blessed Easter! I am happy to extend a very warm welcome to everyone – parishioners and

visitors – who are here today as we celebrate the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. I hope you find reflected in all of us at Holy Infant, a warm welcome.

If anyone who is visiting is looking for a ‘home’, know that we welcome you and invite you to become a part of our family here at Holy Infant. You are always welcome to stop by the rectory, give us a call or simply sign on our parish website if you would like to become registered members of our parish community.

Speaking of community, how many times do you sit in Church and see people coming in the door or coming back from receiving Holy Communion and know their face but not their name?

It’s time for a new Holy Infant Parish Pictorial Directory! Nicole Dresser has graciously agreed to serve as the coordinator for this project. We will need help publicizing our directory event; contacting our families; portrait appointment sign-ups; greeting our families during photography; and creative design ideas for our new directory. Nicole is having a meeting with potential volunteers to help with this project. There will be a special meeting on Tuesday, April 29th at 7 o’clock in the evening in the Holy Infant Room. If you are interested in helping with this special project, please plan on attending this meeting.

I cannot tell you how many times people thank me for making an effort to try to know them by name. And I cannot tell you how helpful past pictorial directories have been for me. A new parish pictorial directory will be an invaluable tool for us to continue to grow as a family of faith and create an environment that reflects that here at Holy Infant. Please plan on scheduling an appointment for getting a family portrait taken when you hear about it in coming months.

I pray that you and your family experience the love, joy and peace of our Lord during this holy season. On behalf of Fr. Chris, Fr. Anstoetter and the entire pastoral staff here at Holy Infant, I wish you a Blessed Easter!

God’s blessings to you and your family!

Alleluia! He is Risen!

Where is your sting, O death? Where is your victory, O hell? Christ has risen, and you are overthrown. Christ has risen, and the demons have fallen. Christ has risen, and the angels rejoice. Christ has risen, and life reigns. Christ has risen, and not one dead rests in the grave. For Christ having risen from the dead became the first-fruits of them that slept. To him be glory and majesty to ages of ages. Amen.

“Jesus came and stood among them and said to them, ‘Peace be with you.’ ” John 20:19

Are you good at making people feel welcome? When you meet some-one new, a new neighbor, a new work colleague, a new parishioner, do you make them feel at home? Many of us can probably do a much better job at this. When we make people feel welcome, we make them feel like they are included instead of being excluded. A simple “hello” and a smile goes a long way.

THE RESURRECTION OF THE LORD APRIL 20, 2014

Alleluia! He is Risen!

This is the night, when Christ broke the prison bars of death and rose victorious from the underworld.

Our birth would have been no gain, had we not been redeemed.

O wonder of your humble care for us! O love, O charity beyond all telling,

to ransom a slave you gave away your Son! O truly necessary sin of Adam, destroyed completely

by the Death of Christ! O happy fault that earned so great,

so glorious a Redeemer. O truly blessed night worthy alone to know the time

and hour when Christ rose from the underworld!

From the Easter Proclamation at the Easter Vigil

“When Simon Peter arrived…he went into the tomb and saw the burial cloths there…the other disciple also went in, the one who had arrived at the tomb first, and he saw and believed.”

“Go, build My Church,” were the words of Christ miraculously spoken to St. Francis from the Cross. He was awakened to a new zeal, founding the Order of the Franciscans and a renew-al, and building, of the universal Church.

The Appeal is a truly concrete way we can help bring oth-ers to Jesus Christ and build up His Church. Your sacrifi-cial gift to the Annual Catholic Appeal provides the tools to fulfill Christ’s command, to Build My Church. Shortly after his election, His Holiness Pope Francis called on Catholics worldwide to “build up the Church...With eve-ry movement in our lives, let us build!”

“Pray with me to ask Jesus Christ to change our hearts. ‘Lord bend my heart according to Your will and not to the love of gain’ (Ps. 119). Invite Him into your life through sacrament and sacrifice. Join me in this great and noble effort...to Build the Church.” Archbishop Robert J. Carlson

Our ‘pledge’ weekends are April 26th/27th and May 3rd/ 4th. Pledge cards are available on these two weekends and will be available in the parish office after these week-ends. If you have any questions, please call the parish office.

On Easter morning when the disciples saw the evidence of the Resurrection, they did not at first grasp it. John reports that "they did not yet understand the Scripture that he had to rise from the dead." We, on the other hand, have both scripture and church tradition to teach us. Jesus Christ's resurrection is at the core of our Christian faith.

All of today's readings tell us how compelling this event was for the first Christians. There is great energy in all the readings. Peter preaches with authority and conviction. Paul calls for Christians to change their lives. In the Gospel reading we see Peter and John in a footrace to reach Jesus' tomb and see with their own eyes the evidence that they still could not understand or completely believe.

How can some of this Easter energy be restored to us today? Do we let the astonishing news of the Resurrection touch us now? Does it call us to action? To deeper faith? To conversion? What new life will be reborn in us and our parish community this Easter morning?

an Adorer after your visit with the LORD, please cover the Monstrance with a special cover located at the left side of the bookshelves.

If you are visiting the LORD and the Monstrance is covered, please take off the cover and hang it at the left side of the bookshelves.

THE RESURRECTION OF THE LORD APRIL 20, 2014

H I P S R R 2014-2015S Y

Welcome to the 2014-2015 PSR school year at Holy Infant Parish. We look forward to working closely with you to help provide a Christ-filled school year for all the PSR students of the parish. Please know that as parents you are invalua-ble to this program. We recognize that you are the first teachers of your children and that no one knows them better or loves them more than you do. It is our goal, therefore, to work with you to support the faith formation of your child.

The spirit of this ongoing program is to empower our children to live out their baptismal call and give witness to the Gospel by fostering their love of Jesus Christ. The Holy Infant PSR program accomplishes this in active cooperation with the children’s parents who are the primary religious educators. We strive to nurture each child and each family in the knowledge and love of God in order to enrich their faith life and to enable them to live out their call to stewardship in the community.

Our program is designed to assist parents by offering weekly instruction to children in grades first through eighth by catechists who teach and witness the teachings and life of Jesus. In our program the children are educated in the Catholic tradition, Scripture, and Church teachings in areas such as respect for life and social justice. Our PSR program attempts to balance the religious instruction (message) with the experiences of Catholic community, service, and worship throughout the year. It attempts to meet the needs and understanding of all children and families, recognizing that there are varying degrees of catechetical background, understanding, and experiences. We strive to inform our children and families in the basics of the Catholic faith; assist the parents in forming the children’s ongoing spiritual development; and finally to be an instrument in transforming these children into Catholic Christian citizens with a strong faith on which to base their future spiritual growth, and to enable them to be evangelizers to the commu-nities in which they will live. All that is accomplished by the grace of the Holy Spirit.

Registration continues until May 30 in the PSR Office

We do charge a fee in order to provide the best catechetical program for your children, but we must stress that we want all children to be able to avail themselves of a religious education and will work with parents who may be strug-gling financially to accomplish that. A parent or guardian must come to register their children; and if you have a child entering first grade or are new to the parish we ask that you provide us a copy of your child’s baptismal certificate and birth certificate. You may register on Monday as we have class from 4-8 p.m. or you may call for an appointment and time that works best for you.

Classes are filled on a first-come first-serve basis. Registering on time will allow you a choice of class times and usu-ally our 4:30 p.m. session fills up quickly. After the 30th of May, 2014 we will be unable to guarantee you a time prefer-ence.

The following are the fees for registration, tuition, books:

Holy Infant Registered Parishioners: One Child $250 Two Children $370 Three or more Children $460 Non-registered Parishioners: One Child $340 Two Children $550 Three or more Children $730

A $100.00 family non-refundable down payment is due at the time of registration. Please see registration form for pay-ment options. Registration forms including financial agreement and payments must be completed by May 30th to avoid $50 late fee per family. A $25 fee will be charged to change session after the initial registration. We must stress again that we want all children to be able to avail themselves of a religious education and will work with parents who may be struggling financially to accomplish that.

Bless us as we look forward to continued joy in the ministry of catechesis.

Yours in Christ, Patricia Foley, Director of Religious Education and PSR Director Holy Infant Parish

Praying the Rosary in Church after Easter would be one way to continue the holy lifestyle that we have lived during Lent. The Rosary is prayed aloud in the Adoration Chapel after Mass on Mondays through Fridays at 6:30 a.m. and at 8:30 a.m., and on Saturdays at 8:30 a.m. Everyone is cordially invited to come and pray with us. May is the Blessed Virgin Mary’s ‘special month’ and Mary especially loves the Rosary!

April 20, 1014 Dear Faithful of the Archdiocese of St. Louis,

I offer to you my deepest greetings of joy and peace on the Solemnity of the Resurrection of Our Lord Jesus Christ—Happy Easter! Easter is to the Church year what Sunday is to each week—a highlight of rest and rejoicing. Its vivid symbols of fire, water and exultant song remind us that Christ has overcome sin and death. Because of that we know, in the words of Pope Francis, that when everything is said and done, we are infinitely loved by God. Let us pray that the light of Christ will shine in our hearts this Easter, and reach out to others through us. We know that our Savior lives. Let us share with others the joy of knowing that they are loved by God! I ask that you keep in mind that the collection for Regina Cleri, the residence for our retired priests, is today. You know how generously the retired priests served you, and how you counted on them. Now, in turn they count on you and are grateful for your generous support and prayers. I pray these days of blessing for you and your loved ones. Sincerely yours in Christ,

Most Reverend Robert J. Carlson Archbishop of St. Louis
