MaryAnne Wilk, Hall Director

Greetings from The Residence

on Tenth! With move-in day

quickly approaching, I want to

welcome you to the TROT

family. You will soon learn

how lucky you are to be a

party of a first class community

at The Ohio State University.

Our home welcomed its first

residents just a short time ago

and we will be celebrating our

3rd birthday this month.

As a member of the TROT

family you will be held to some

high expectations. Our com-

munity is three things: classy,

glassy, and a little bit sassy.

You will learn more about

these expectations at your

floor meetings on Saturday

August 23rd.

The staff and I are eagerly

awaiting your arrival. We hope

you are equally excited.

In the meantime if you have

any questions or concerns,

please feel free to reach me via

email at [email protected] or

via phone at 614-292-8448.

Enjoy the last days of summer

and we will see you soon!

With TROT Love,

Your Hall Director

Favorite Thing about Ohio

State: I love the phenomenal

students I have the pleasure of

working with in the OSU com-

munity. In my time on campus

I’ve been able to meet some

outstanding students and staff.

Chris Wood, Assistant Hall Director Hello Residents! I am excited

to meet all of you very soon.

We are going to have a

wonderful year in The

Residence on Tenth! This is

my second year at Ohio

State—last year I was an

Assistant Hall Director in

Morrill Tower. In May 2015 I

will graduate with my Master’s

in Higher Education and

Student Affairs. I did my

undergraduate work nearby at

Otterbein University—very

different than Ohio State with

only 3,000 students. I grew up

in Mendon, Ohio (holler to my

fellow 419 people). If you have

any needs throughout the year,

please reach out to either your

RA or myself. I am here to

support you and ensure you

are as successful as possible

during your time at Ohio

State!

If you happen to love The

Golden Girls, Titanic, Katy

Perry, or Orange Soda, we are

sure to get along. If you don’t

like these things, I’m sure we

can manage! :)

Favorite Song: Roar by Katy

Perry

Favorite Quote: “And when

you’re not a little boy

anymore, when the world has

taught you how to be a

man...then you’ll still make

mistakes. But your family, and

all those good friends you’ve

made along the way will help

you. And even though you’ll

think the world has gone out

of its way to teach you all the

tough lessons, you’ll realize it’s

the same world that’s given

you your family and those

friends. You’ll come to believe

that no matter what happens,

somehow the world will

protect you, too.” -Boy Meets

World

P A G E 3 Kurubel Belay, Resident Manager Role: I oversee the management of the front desk.

Why did you choose Ohio State? In addition to the amazing opportunities it offers, I’ve always loved

the spirit and camaraderie of Ohio State. It’s a place where people are full of life and truly care for

Why did you choose Ohio State? I was extremely introverted in high school and knew that I needed

something to force me out of my shell. So, I moved out of state, put myself out there and became an

not the right fit for me. I decided it was time to get out of Northwest Ohio and explore new

territory. I also wanted to go to a school that would have many resources and provide opportunities

that I never had access to.

Favorite Quote: “No one can make you feel inferior without your consent.” -Eleanor Roosevelt

Favorite Song: Yeah by Joe Nichols

Julia Dionne, Resident Advisor Role: Lives in Room 649, works with rooms 650-670

Favorite Song: Carmen Ohio!

Dajzsa McDaniel, Resident Advisor Role: Lives in Room 689, works with rooms 671-690

Why did you choose Ohio State? I chose OSU because it was the only school I applied to that en-

compassed everything I needed to enjoy the next 4 years: a metropolitan atmosphere, far enough

from home to feel away, but close enough to get home in a decent time, BEAUTIFUL campus, large

athletic program and a diverse group of students. Also financial aid, that helped a bit, too. ;)

What does your room look like? Generally, all suites are setup the same. When you walk in there is a common room shared by 6 individuals. Each suite has 3

bedrooms (each bedroom holds two people), a single-shower room, a single-toilet room, and 3 sinks (1 per room). Each

room is also equipped with a standard sized refrigerator and microwave. There is standard furniture in the common room

including a sofa, lounge chair, end table, and a small table with two chairs.

Here are some measurements that you might be interested in knowing (note that measurements are approximate and may

vary slightly between rooms):

Common Room Window: 94” wide, running from floor to ceiling (first floor common room windows do not start at the

floor, but are taller due to having taller ceilings than the other floors).

Bedroom Window: Generally 76” tall running the entire length of the room. The biggest exception lies in suites 190, 221,

225, 290, 321, 235, 390, 421, 435, 490, 521, 525, 590, 621, 625, and 690. These rooms have slightly smaller windows

measuring approximately 66” wide by 74” tall. Rooms 225C, 325C, 425C, 525C, and 625C have a second window in their

rooms due to the fact that they are located on a corner. The second window is smaller measuring approximately 46”

wide by 74” tall.

The window blinds in the common cover the entire window when drawn closed and are slightly see-through. The

window blinds in the bedrooms cover the entire window when drawn closed and are not see through—the only light

that will come in will be around the edges of the blind.

The desks, which are located in individual bedrooms, measure 42” long by 23” wide. There is one drawer and 2 shelves

on the right side of the desk next to where the provided chair sits.

The doorway entering the closet is approximately 29” wide (a popular thing to do is buy a tension rod and a curtain to

enclose the closet). Each person will get one side of the closet. On each side of the closet there are three rods to hang

clothes (each being approximately 20” long). On one side of each person’s closet there is a 20” long shelf approximately

16” off of the ground. Each side of the closet also has shelving cubby units (5-6 cubby units per person, varying per

room). The bottom cubby is lockable (must bring your own lock) and is approximately 16” wide by 15” tall.

The main lobby of the building is located on the west end of the building on the first floor. This is where you can find the front

desk, your mailboxes, the laundry room, the bicycle room, vending machines, the kitchen, and the only water fountain in the

building. The offices for the Hall Director and Assistant Hall Director are behind the front desk. The front desk is staffed 24/7.

Several businesses have private parking lots to the west of the building. Should one choose to park in these spaces, their car

will most likely be towed at the owner’s expense. These lots are not affiliated with the university. Nearby parking can be

found in the 11th Avenue Garage to the north of the building, in the first two rows of the small parking lot across

Worthington Avenue to the east of the building (do not park beyond the first two rows as that is non-OSU parking and you

will likely be towed), street parking on 10th Avenue and Worthington Avenue (must have Columbus City Permit U to park in

the non-metered spaces 8am-5pm Monday through Friday). More information about on-campus parking can be found at

www.campusparc.com. Please make sure if you are parking in a spot on campus that you have the proper permit. We do not

want to see anybody get ticketed on move-in day or any other time of the year!

When you move in, you are assigned a specific room. For example, if you are assigned Suite 100, there are three two –person

bedrooms in that suite. The bedrooms are labeled 100A, 100B, and 100C. If you are assigned to room 100A, you must move

into room 100A. Your Buck-ID is encoded to unlock your specific room. Even if another room is open when you move in,

this does not give you permission to move into another room. You must move into the specific room of the suite to which

you are assigned.

If you are going to hang things on your walls that use tape, we ask that you use the blue painter’s tape so that the walls do not

get destroyed at the end of the year. We have a stockpile of this type of tape at the front desk for your convenience.

You are responsible for taking out your trash and cleaning your suite, including your own bathroom space. Trash dumpsters

can be found outside on the northwest corner of the building as well as behind Jesse Owens South.

We have a beautiful courtyard with plenty of grassy-space and picnic tables and benches. Please enjoy and use the space while

the weather is nice!

Remember that The Ohio State University is a tobacco-free campus.

Swiping into the building any day before August 22 will result in a $25 fee per day. Swiping into the building on August 22 will

result in a $125 fee. Please do not arrive for move in until move in day, which is August 23.

If moving in from 9am-2pm on August 21 or during move-in day on Saturday, you must check-in at the Schottenstein Center.

Important Dates to Remember... August 23, 2014: Move In Day! We are so excited to meet you and welcome you to your home for the year! Mandatory floor

meetings will occur this evening, following these, at 10pm we will have a welcome event with professional pancake flipper

Chris Cakes located outside of the building on the Tenth Avenue side (free food, music, games).

August 24, 2014: Block-O Block Party on the Seibert/Park-Stradley lawn at 8pm

September 1, 2014: No Classes due to Labor Day

Closing for fall semester, reopening date in January

December 8, 2014: Must be out of the Residence Hall by 2pm for Winter Break
