THE RADIX TRAFFIC BELOW GROUND VEHICLE DETECTOR
RTM MAGNETOMETER COMPONENTS
Radix Sensor RTM300 3-axis magnetometer technology monitors changes in the
Earth’s magnetic field caused by vehicles passing over it. The processor interprets these changes and determines
whether to indicate a detection event based on sensitivity settings and other criteria.
Rugged IP68 rated cylindrical housing, nominally only 18mm diameter. Draw cord can be fitted to the housing for easy and quick retrieval.
2-wire connection back to RTM500 Interface Card located at Signal Controller via new or existing loop feeder cable.
RTM MAGNETOMETER COMPONENTS
Radix Interface Card RTM500 Standard 3U Eurocard rack mounting into
TR2512 detector backplane. Delivers power, signals, sensitivity and other
parameters to, and receives detection event data from, the RTM300 sensor.
Each RTM500 card supports connection of up to four RTM300 sensors.
Front panel detect & fault LEDs switch off after a pre-determined time to save power and are restored by a quick press of the reset button.
User selectable front panel switches to select sensitivities and presence times for each sensor channel.

INSTALLATION
The RTM300 Sensor is installed into cross carriageway ducting. Ducts may be existing cable ducts at suitable road crossing points,
or dedicated narrow bore ducts located nearer the surface. Depending on the choice of duct diameter, it is possible to fit
multiple sensors in one duct for detection in individual lanes. Draw cords should be attached to each sensor to allow easy
adjustment/removal.
INSTALLATION
The RTM300 Sensor is connected to the RTM500 Interface Card back inside the Traffic Controller using a 2-wire system via existing legacy or new loop feeder cable.
Connection to the feeder is made in the conventional manner and the use of a re-usable bottle joint is recommended for this purpose.
INSTALLATION
The RTM500 Interface Card is installed into a Standard 3U Eurocard Rack inside the Traffic Controller.
It is the same size as a standard loop detector card and fits into a standard TR2512 backplane.

BENEFITS OF RADIX DETECTOR vs OTHER DETECTORS
RADIX BELOW GROUND DETECTOR OTHER BELOW GROUND DETECTORS
Cost effective & reliable over the 15 year design life of the products, with no routine
maintenance required.
Carriageway loops & sensors are typically replaced or repaired every 5 years
Quick & easy to install in existing ducts, no need for Traffic Management/Lane Closures
Traffic Management/Lane Closures required for installation
Cannot be easily damaged, as the RTM300 sensor is typically installed at a depth of
between 150mm to 600mm beneath the road
Loops and other sensors are typically installed in the road at a depth of between 50mm to 100mm and can easily be damaged by third
parties, utilities, resurfacing etc
No batteries to change, no repeaters or other wireless street furniture to install and maintain
High equipment cost and requires routine maintenance and Traffic Management
SUMMARY
The Radix RTM Magnetometer Vehicle Detector offers customers significant life cost savings over other below
ground detection solutions.
