The Butte-Silver Bow Chamber of Commerce takes an enormous amount of pride in being able to provide great value to our members. The Progress

is an integral part of that value. When faced with file size limitations that were limiting our ability to give The Progress a makeover and allow us to include more photos to make The Progress a more engaging experience for our members.

By making these changes, we weren’t able to email the file out in bulk any longer because the file becomes too large for our email system (and many of yours) to handle once more photos and other complexities are incorporated. Finally, the solution of uploading each month’s issue to ISSUU.com was discovered. The Progress is always downloadable as a PDF from the ISSUU website each month, for those who still prefer to read the file in Adobe Reader, the “old“ way.

If you have any questions regarding the new format or any other aspect of The Progress, please contact Stephanie Sorini at the Chamber of Commerce at 723-3177 or send an email to [email protected]

Miller’s Boots and Shoes, 301 S. Arizona St., has sold their family business to a new owner after 97 years of operating this family business. I have had the privilege of personally knowing all three generations of this cohesive and quality family unit. Miller’s Boots and Shoes has been a pillar of our community throughout each generation of existence and have provided a great product and customer service to Butte and the surrounding area.

As I write this message, it is a double-edged sword. It is a tribute to the Miller family that they could provide this niche in Butte for 97 years and yet a sadness to say farewell to this wonderful family. However, it is a tremendous joy to see that they have passed the torch to a new Butte family to be able to continue providing this great service. Many times the ending is not as joyous when people who have worked hard and sacrificed for over a century have to close their doors and their business ceases to exist.

I would like to congratulate Dan, Linda, Mick, and Claire on a job well done. Miller’s has been an incredible asset in the Butte Business Community. I would like to officially welcome the new owners to the Butte Business Community, knowing that you have BIG SHOES to fill! Good luck in your new endeavor!

Sincerely,

Executive Director

About fifteen years ago I realized I can look at a calendar and even though it may indicate the season is spring or summer, unless the days are warm, it may as just as well be the month of March. Such is the case this year, as the beginning of Festival Season is upon us, it is hard to believe, it’s almost July. But none the less I am wondering what my granddaughter will be wearing next week for the 4th of July parade and I’m making notes for our family barbecue, including reminding my husband to find the horseshoes.

July, as most of you know is packed full of events to participate in… what a great time to invite friends and family to visit. Don’t feel as if you need to have guests stay at your home--Butte offers a large variety of great lodging options for visitors. Never assume all guest rooms are taken, especially during a festival weekend, as many times there are rooms available. So I am sharing the list of lodging options for Butte, something to hang onto for future reference.

America’s Best Value Inn (formerly Rocker Inn) 406-723-5464 Best Western Plus Butte Plaza Inn 406-494-3500 Budget Motel 406-494-4346 Days Inn 406-494-7000 Comfort Inn 406-494-8850 Eddy’s Motel 406-723-4364 Fairmont Hot Springs Resort 406-797-3241 Finlen Hotel 406-723-5461 Hampton Inn 406-494-2250 Holiday Inn Express & Suites 406-782-2000 La Quinta Inn & Suites 406-494-6999 Motel 6 406-782-5678 Quality Inn & Suites 406-494-7800 Rodeway Inn & Suites-Capri 406-723-4391 Super 8 406-494-6000 Copper King Mansion Bed & Breakfast 406-782-7580 Toad Hall Manor Bed & Breakfast 800-443-8623

First quarter of 2014 bed tax collections are in for the state of Montana, great news for Butte as we are up 5% and the State is up 4% over the same quarter for 2013. Changes in bed tax collections are attributed either or both of the following: more guest rooms being booked and/or a higher rate for guest rooms booked. Either way, Butte has started off the year in a positive fashion.

If you need Attraction Sheet/Tear-Off Maps and Visitor Guides, please stop by the Chamber office to grab a bundle. If you need brochures for individual attractions we ask you contact each attraction individually, unfortunately we only have enough inventory for the Visitor Information Center.

The Chamber can also supply you with our most current list of events that have been shared with us. If you have a function you want us to know about, please email:

Born and raised in Meaderville, Butte Mt. (one of the 9 lost neighborhoods) and graduated from Girls Central High School in 1967.

I have been married to Sid deBarathy for almost 42 years. We have a son Jeff, who is a dancer, singer, choreographer, costume maker, and consultant in Las Vegas. We have a married daughter Wendy (Cody), with 2 granddaughters, Brooklyn and London in Salt Lake.

One of my dreams was to have my own business. After leaving the FBI and doing daycare, at 40 I had 4 businesses. I now have 2. One is welcoming new people to Butte. I am one of those people that will talk to most people that I don’t know, which could be a good thing for this type of business. Sometimes I meet people at the Chamber or in a store who are looking for a certain place in Butte and I just say follow me and I will take you there.

I am so lucky that I have never had to leave my hometown so I do not know what it is like to move to a new place and not know where anything is and where to find a doctor, a school, a painter etc. This is where I come in. I am here to help the new people locate the above. I have been welcoming for 18 years. My business name is Rocky Mountain Welcome.

I also love taking pictures. My husband tells people that I take my camera to the Dairy Queen. Well actually I have it in my purse all the time. You never know when there is a Kodak moment. So you will probably see me snapping pictures at the Chamber events and most any other place in Butte.

On June 12th, NBC Montana & Thrivent Financial co-hosted the monthly Chamber Business Card Social in the Thornton Building’s ballroom. Thrivent Financial’s office is located in the Thornton Building as well.

Among the delectable delights that tantalized the tastebuds of the crowd on hand were pasties from Truzzulino’s Tamales.

Those present received information about how NBC Montana is providing a live news program for Western Montana each weekday morning with information that Montanans need to hear and how they are using

technology to give the most up-to-the-minute information to their viewers day in and day out.

The NBC Montana Today news team, including Laurel Staples, asked that Butte viewers keep them in mind and send them news leads and photos to help them keep Montanans informed.

They also learned how Thrivent Financial is helping area residents take control of their retirements and plan for their futures intelligently and with true goals and logical expectations in mind.

Tuesday, June 10th

The Pita Pit held a ribbon cutting in cooperation with the Chamber of Commerce, the Butte Local Development Corporation and Butte-Silver Bow Government on Tuesday, June 10th to signify the symbolic beginning of their business venture in uptown Butte.

Owners Carrie and Buddy Fisher spent months preparing the location at Park & Montana in Historic Uptown Butte for their vision an eatery to serve healthy and delicious food to the people of Butte in a “fast-casual” environment.

The Pita Pit is a welcome addition to Uptown Butte and to the Chamber!
