The 63 rd Bangkok Gems & Jewelry Fair was a great success for buyers, visitors, and exhibitors with five days of bustling trading atmosphere and beautiful arrays of gems and jewelry products that impressed fair participants from around the globe. Organized by the Department of International Trade Promotion (DITP), Ministry of Commerce, the 63 rd edition of Bangkok Gems and Jewelry Fair held on February 20-24, 2019 at IMPACT, Muang Thong Thani attracted visitors from 118 countries with top ten visiting nations from India, China, Myanmar, US, Russia, Srilanka, France, Vietnam, Japan and Pakistan. The fair is rare trading platform for gems and jewelry manufacturers, traders, exporters, importers, designers, and all stakeholders in the industry. Large companies as well as SMEs met with domestic and international buyers which has led them to gain more exposure for their brands and expand their customer base to international markets. In this edition, 821 exhibitors participated at the fair, occupying 1852 booths. Although 579 of these were from Thailand, others came from around the globe, including countries as diverse as China, Poland, Turkey, Japan, Singapore, India, Israel, Indonesia, and Cambodia. A total of USD 65 million in trade value was generated at the show. The 63rd Bangkok Gems & Jewelry Fair was a great success for buyers, visitors, and exhibitors with five days of bustling trading atmosphere and beautiful arrays of gems and jewelry products that impressed fair participants from around the globe.

Organized by the Department of International Trade Promotion (DITP), Ministry of Commerce, the 63rd edition of Bangkok Gems and Jewelry Fair held on February 20-24, 2019 at IMPACT, Muang Thong Thani attracted visitors from 118 countries with top ten visiting nations from India, China, Myanmar, US, Russia, Srilanka, France, Vietnam, Japan and Pakistan.

The fair is rare trading platform for gems and jewelry manufacturers, traders, exporters, importers, designers, and all stakeholders in the industry. The 63rd Bangkok Gems & Jewelry Fair was held under the theme of “Thailand’s Magic Hands: The Spirit of Jewelry Making” which honors Thai craftsmanship in creating the exquisite work pieces to meet the needs of international consumers. DITP is determined to promote the exceptional craftsmanship to be led to the global gems and jewelry trade or Jewelry Hub that builds from skillful craftsmanship to global design, innovation and international trade excellence.

In alignment with the government’s initiatives, DITP instigated a series of special zones with an aim to promote Thai SMEs and up-and-coming brands to meet overseas buyers. Moreover, DITP encouraged jewelry designers and manufacturers to focus on catering to the demands of international customers as well as niche markets.

In 2018, export of gems and jewelry products including unwrought gold was worth USD 12,194 million, or 4.74 percent of the country’s total exports. The gems and jewelry industry is an industry that is highly successful in creating add value to the country, while employing 1.2 million workers nationwide.

At the opening ceremony, Ms. Chutima Boonyaprapatsorn, Deputy Commerce Minister revealed that, “The gems and jewelry industry in Thailand is key to the country’s economy. The industry has long been recognized worldwide for quality manufacturing of gems and jewelry.”

“DITP is uplifting the Bangkok Gems & Jewelry Fair which is a platform for businesspeople, buyers, sellers in the gems and jewelry industry to expand their businesses in many dimensions from material sourcing, trading, and network-building.”

The show was created under the concept of ‘the Silhouette of Thailand's Magic Hands’, which was designed by Mr. Ek Thongprasert, a famous Thai designer and the owner of Ek Thongprasert brand. The show represented the combination of the Thai identity through the performance of the shadow puppetry (Nang Yai) together with the jewelry show from various renowned brands, i.e. Pranda, Beauty Gems, Der Mond, Mahallati Jewelry, Blue River, Siamgems Heritage, etc.
