Dear Members,

Our July meeting is our annual picnic. It will be at at the lovely pavilion in the back of the Laer Day Saints church on Hollow Way. The date is July 8th at 6:00 PM. Please come and enjoy friendships, meet new people and have good food.

We are almost half way through 2014! Time is really going too quickly for me! Plans are well on the way for 2015 in PTQG. The nominating commiee for 2015 officers is in place, a preliminary budget commiee has met and programs are already being planned. The reason the board added a preliminary budget meeting was to be beer able to plan for our 2015 year, particularly how much we can spend for speakers and if we can afford to have a Jamboree, and if so, make those plans. Karle deProsse, our Finance, Budget and Audit chairperson, has explained to the board that we are continuing to spend $2,000 to $4,000 per year over our expenses. Our nice reserve savings is shrinking and within just a few years could be depleted. It is important to have the reserve in the event we cannot have a quilt show or some disaster affects the area one year, as we count on the income to fund scholarships, community service and all the wonderful activities that we offer our members for a low to no cost. If anyone has comments or suggestions regarding budgeting and $nances of the guild, please contact either Karle or me, we welcome hearing from our members.

Sign Up to White Glove @ The FAIR!!

What a generous group of ladies you are!  At the June meeting, I asked for white glove sign ups for the Nevada County Fair in August and I have all slots filled but 4.

These are slots for you night owls out there.  I need 2 people for the 6pm - 10pm slot on Friday August 8, and 2 for the 6pm - 10pm slot on Saturday, August 9.  I just need 4 people to donate 4 hours of their time.  You get free admission and free parking, and you can come early with your friends/family to enjoy the food and activities before your shift begins at 6.

This is the first time we will be selling tickets for our 2015 opportunity quilt, "Fiori".  I think this quilt is a stunner (a totally unbiased opinion)!  Remember monies from the opportunity quilt and quilt show baskets are our biggest money makers for the guild and for 4 hours of your time, you will be helping to send a well-deserving high school student on to college with our scholarships.

If you (and a friend) are willing to take one or more of these shifts, please let me know at:  [email protected]  or call me at 272-7863.

THANK YOU!!!Cathy Stone

Pinterest

Pinterest is a fun site to visit. I can spend a lot of time browsing through

the ‘pins’ from a variety of topics. Quilting is obviously one of them, and this pin looked kind of fun. Although I must admit, from what I’ve seen of my sewing buddies, the pail would have

to be very large! The straw bobbin holder looks

interesting, tried to find directions, but nothing showed up.

I think I could figure it out!

Have fun!

BORDERS, BINDINGS, FACINGS AND SLEEVES Important stuff seldom taught in class

We are enjoying our Home Workshop classes! Last month Margie McConnell challenged us with the Hexagon Table Topper! It was so much fun to see the different color combinations come together.

A special Thank You to Margie for sharing her skills with us and for the special aention  she gave to those of us that choose directional fabric!

THIS month ARDY TOBIN will share with us Basic Techniques  that we all need! Even if you know how to do basic, its always a good idea to be open to learn from another quilter!

We are so fortunate to have this award winning guild member to share her ideas with us!Join us on June 26th  (on the 4th Thursday-this is a change in our regular time).

Variation of the “1500” Quilt”Leie Lewis

Summer’s here! When it’s too warm to be outside that's a good time to be inside and Quilt.     We will have our Workshop in July. In August we'll take the month off.

Join Community Service as they work year around!      In JULY,  Leie Lewis will show us how to make a variation of the "1500" Quilt. Her friend

from Alaska was here for our Quilt Show and shared this paern. It looked like it would be FUN and QUICK to make.

All you need is your BASIC SEWING SUPPLIES ( including your sewing machine), and 40( or more) 2  1/2 in. strips of fabric of your choice. Jelly Rolls work great for this since they are

already cut and color coordinated. Of course you can cut from your stash!      CLASS is Thursday, JULY 17th , 9:30-2      Join us for a fun learning experience!

UNTIL THEN.......... KEEP ON QUILTING

2014 PINE TREE QUILT GUILD COOKBOOK

IT’s GONE! ! ! Sips, Savories, and Sweets, the 2014 Guild Cookbook sold out! Thank you all for supporting this Guild project. 225 were ordered, 224 sold, 1 was donated. Profit to help restore Guild coffers: $808.00. A few need to be picked up - contact Marjorie or it may be sold again.

2014 CHRISTMAS PARTY!

The annual Christmas Party will be held on Tuesday, December 2, 2014. The elves are busy and want you to know about two of the prizes that will be awarded.

More details will be released this fall.

We are hosting a “personal hygiene” campaign for Utah’s Place – a twist on the canned food drive. Donations of small, travel size soap, shampoo, lotion, toothpaste, toothbrushes for their clients will be accepted. If you are traveling this summer and have extra items you do not use,

please bring them back and donate them. If you are not traveling, and want to contribute, travel size items can be found at most drug stores or at the Dollar stores.

Each contributing member will receive a ticket for a drawing.

Community Services Appreciation. For all who support Community Services there will be a special drawing (or maybe more?). Beginning in January and continuing through November, names

of every member who comes to CS and/or contributes in some way – quilt tops, donations, quilting, binding, etc. are entered for this drawing. Will you be a lucky winner?

Barbara Ceresa, our 2014 Quilt Show chairwoman, did multiple tasks as she

worked throughout the weekend. Maintaining the restrooms was one of those tasks! Thank

you, Barbara, for your dedication to the Guild!

Sixth in a series: “Highlights of Guild Positions” Newsletter

In the By-Laws the “Newsleer Chairperson(s) shall put out a Newsleer each month before the Guild meeting, which shall include notifying members of regular meetings and special events.” Later on in the

Policies section, “Display ads will no longer be printed in the newsleer. (2003) The Newsleer will not accept ads from outside the Guild. (2005)

The Newsleer will be distributed via the Guild’s website. Option for printed and $rst class delivery of the newsleer will be available, however, member will pay the current cost of printing and mailing. (2011)

(2013).

The newsletter position provides one of the lines of communication of the Guild. In the world today, Marketing is important for any organization.

Through the newsletter we reach not only our members, but others who visit our website.

The newsletter is easier to get published because of the support of the Board members and general members as well. Each month the editor is sent articles or notes to include in the

current month’s edition. After completing the rough draft, she sends it on to her ‘readers’ who check for errors, and sometimes there are more than a few! Occasionally, despite our best

efforts, errors still slip through, so be patient! Let the editor know if the mistake is something that is factual and needs to be corrected in the next edition.

Personal note from your editor.....this is a great position for someone who wants to know what’s going on in the Guild. It offers one the great opportunity of interacting with many members in

the Guild. I’m not ready to give it up anytime soon, but when I do, give it some thought!

Community Services and Drop In and Sew

DATE CHANGE: CS/DIS – will meet on the fourth Thursday, June 26, 9:00 – 3:00, Seventh Day Adventist Church, Osborne Hill Road, Grass Valley. Kathy Biggi and Pat Fryer have new kits made up. Interest has been expressed in making pillow cases for all ages and bibs to go with baby quilts.

We still have oodles of quilts, all sizes, in need of final touches. Nothing fancy required, a great way to practice your free motion quilting or stitch in the ditch, sew from corner to corner, stipple, meander, whatever you want to try. Bring your machine and spend some time with us doing what you love – quilting! No need to bring supplies – if you need it we have it! Chocolate, homemade cookies, coffee, tea, hot cocoa, and lots of fun and laughter keeps your energy up. Do bring a lunch if you are staying all day. If you cannot attend CS but would like to help, please contact Marjorie.

Remember: if you know anyone who needs a quilt, we distribute throughout the year, CS quilts are not only made for the December distribution. Community Services continues to make good use of your donations of scrap batting, thread, plastic zipper bags, and fabric. All of these items go into making or storing quilts.
