The auction was a great success, thank you ladies and Jill Stiger (round of applause please), Linda Fenska, Sue Sharkey, Terri Brown, Joan Moore and Cindy Challis. I think Cindy would be a great addi-tion to the Board!!!

The baskets the members donated were awesome and John (the auctioneer) did a good job, what great fun.

This newsletter will be the last one submitted by Terri Brown who has done a marvelous job for THREE years. I have come to know Terri while on the Board and she has become a very good friend, because of this friendship I have also gotten to know Debbie Barnes and Cindy Zielke. We all gather together each month to share our love of quilting (and food). Look at all the new friends we have made.

The end of the year is fast ap-proaching, holy cow where did the year go? WE WANT YOU (remember that slogan), step up to be on the Board. Get involved see what happens behind the scenes. Some of us have been on YOUR Board for many years. It’s time for some of us to step down and sit

back and enjoy. We will be in need of a new hospitality crew for next year, if you are interested and/or have any questions please see Peg-gy Lau, myself or Jill Stiger.

President’s Tea will be in June, if anyone would like to volun-teer to oversee this event please see anyone on the Board.

I was watching the news the other evening and saw

a wonderful story on Terry Grahl, Enchanted Makeovers a non-profit organization. Terry and her group of volunteers go to women’s shel-ters to paint and decorate the rooms where the ladies stay. This got me thinking, what could our Guild contribute—pillowcases? Some pretty quilts? Any ideas? Check out her website www.enchantedmakeovers.org. This organization is based out of Detroit.

I have the best Board ever; Linda Fenska isn’t she doing a great job?

Well ladies, I think everyone enjoyed themselves at the auction. We even received a card from John, the auc-tioneer, expressing how much fun he had. Your participation either by donations, buying or both made our auction successful to the tune of $2,140! Thank you!

Our speaker for the May meeting is Donna Slater from The Feathered Nest in Loves Park, Illinois (see arti-cle on page 3). Wrapping up the year in June will be our annual Presi-dent’s Tea. You will want to plan on bringing a dish for the Potluck din-ner and we encourage you to choose a recipe from our Guild Cookbook.

Finally, I have enjoyed serving as your Vice President for the past 2 years and I hope you will enjoy the programs that I have lined up for the future.

The Charity Committee would like

to thank everyone who helped

make the Quilts of Valor blocks

and those that sewed the blocks

together and quilted them. We

sent four quilts to a wounded

warrior transition battalion at

Fort Campbell in Kentucky. See

the pictures on page 7.

Chickens, quilts, inspiration, music

and fun. Donna Slater blends chick-

ens and quilts to teach quilting

techniques that develop confidence

and creativity. Donna started with

her own flock and a series of

patterns titled “RoadBlocks.” Road-

Blocks were test driven by her clos-

est chick gurus.

Sew and Do Sudoku and Strip Addiction, A Fix for Fabra-

holics are two books written by Donna and begin the

scrap journey.

The newest book Scrapples features the above, A Star

Among Friends,” and strip piecing from scraps. Donna

shares her methods and inspires you to use your scraps

in creative ways. Jelly rolls and fat quarters are also

perfect for these projects. The presentation includes

choosing colors and how to put them together. Chicken

Feed uses the scraps from Scrapples (the little pieces

you don’t know what to do with) and gives you a

starting point for organizing those little bits of fabric you

can’t part with.

Projects and ideas will be presented

so you can start feathering your nest

with your own creations. Other plac-

es Donna has been featured are: AQS

-Nashville, TN; Quilt Market in Hou-

ston; Nancy Zieman’s Quilt Expo in Madison, WI; and

Innovations-Longarm University in Tacomah, WA. Visit

Donna’s blog at: www.quiltsforthenest.blogspot.com

First and Last Name: Amy (Imkje) Pribac

Personal Information: Married to William Pribac for 49 years.

Two sons: Nicholas (Jan) and William (Karel). Five grandsons ages

9—23 and 1 granddaughter age 9.

Where did you grow up? Born and raised for 8 years in the Neth-

erlands (Town: Menaldum, Province: Friesland). Raised next 15

years in Warren, Ontario. Last 49 years in Sterling Heights and

Clinton Township, MI.

At what age or year did you start quilting? I was asked to quilt

with a church group beginning at age 16. I took my first class to

cut, piece and sew a quilt-sampler in 1984/85. The class was by

Shirley Minnie.

How long have you been a guild member and do you belong to

any other guilds? 3 years (maybe 4) - first time member of a

guild, I belong to no others.

What is your favorite quilt pattern? Double Wedding Ring.

What other hobbies do you have? Reading, needlepoint, cook-

ing, and fixing things.

What is your favorite movie of all time and why? “El Cid” - I did

not see it, but my husband went to see it and could not get in (it

was booked) so he came over to McMaster University Summer

School instead to see what was going on there—that is how we

met, I was there taking classes. McMaster is in Hamilton, Ontario.

What is your favor-

ite food? Anything

chocolate.

What is your favor-

ite color(s) when

making a quilt?

Any color—

depends who the

quilt is for.

What technique in

quilting would you

love to learn?

Need to learn ma-

chine top stitching

but could not attend the class offered several months ago.

Do you prefer hand or machine quilting? I prefer piecing by ma-

chine but get bored with top stitching even though I have done

several quilts that way.

If you could interview anyone in the world (dead or alive) who

would you interview and why? Nelson Mandela—I admire him

for what he stood for and was willing to be imprisoned (for 20

years) as a consequence.

Our April Auction was a HUGE success! There was a total of $2,140

brought in to the guild from it. John Graessle, our auctioneer, wrote to

tell us he had the best time ever and would love the opportunity to come

back. There were a total of 56 awesome items auctioned, that were do-

nated by our members. We have been told by our CPA that we were sup-

posed to keep a record of who donated what items and who won them.

We have some of the information but are probably lacking a lot more. If

you could please emails me what you donated or won, it would be a big

help to me. Email me at [email protected]. Thank you!

In hopes that you see this before May 2—all who paid their registration to

the Ricky Tims Super Seminar should have received their confirmation

letters by email by now. The confirmation letters are your admittance to

the seminar. If you have not received it, please notify Cyndi at

[email protected] or call 1-719-275-2770. If for some reason you are

unable to attend, you can transfer your registration to someone else who

wants to attend. The information is on the first page of your confirmation

letter. Hope everyone has the best time ever and WHOO HOO!!

Blog Review: Bee in My Bonnet (beeinmybonnetco.blogspot.com)

I thought it would be nice to review some of the

blogs that me and my quilty friends like and why we

like them. Please let me (Terri Brown) know if you

like this article and maybe we can write a Blog Re-

view for every newsletter!

The Blog

“Bee in My

Bonnet” is

an awesome

blog. The

blog belongs

to Lori Holt

who is a quilt designer from Utah. You can find Lori

most often in her studio drawing for her next fabric

line or creating designs for her pattern company

which was established in 1994 called “Bee in My Bon-

net.” Lori is a small town girl who loves everything

vintage. She loves embroidery, gardening, cooking,

knitting, history, antiquing, scrapbooking, camping,

shopping, reading, family time and date night.

Lori has the cutest patterns, great tutorials and even

some YouTube instructional videos. Her fabric is

awesome and has a vintage feel. Currently, Lori is

working on her “Quilty Barn Along” (see picture to the

bottom right). One of the reasons I enjoy this blog is

because Lori keeps it up-

dated. Some blogs you go

to and the owner hasn’t

updated it for months. So

check her blog out and let

me know what you think!

Save the Date: 2014 Quilt Show

We want to remind members that the quilt

show will be April 24-26, 2014. We had to

move the quilt show up a weekend because

of a previous commitment by the Roseville

Recreation Center to another group. Please

save this date in your calendar.

We will begin signup for the committees at

the May meeting so please consider volun-

teering for a position. Our last show was a

success due to the work of many and we

hope to repeat that in 2014!

Quilt Show Chairpersons

Since being encouraged to start machine quilting by her grandfather

9 years ago, Angela Walters has been quilting, teaching and writing.

With a deep appreciation for traditional quilting, she has found a

niche quilting modern quilts. She is the author of two books, Free-

Motion Quilting with Angela Walters and In the Studio with Angela

Walters. Mary Ellen Zajac, who is a longarm quilter and guild mem-

ber highly recommends this book. So take a look and tell us what

you think!
