Greetings from the organizing team of Perio - Diabetes Symposium !

Mouth is the gateway to our body. However when we talk about overall health

perhaps oral health is often an overlooked entity and may be best described as

“ Forgotten Orifice“. Scientific documentation over the years have consistently

talked about the strong risk association of periodontal disease and its systemic

impact. Profound evidence highlights the risk liability of diabetes and

periodontitis independently and also in co-association. The rising prevalence of

both the diseases in India is a matter of grave concern.

Understanding the importance of this crucial continuum perhaps

seeded the concept of hosting this symposium. The two national societies i.e.

Research Society for the Study of Diabetes in India (RSSDI) and Indian Society

of Periodontology (ISP ) collaborate for the very first time for prospective

deliberations, discussions and possible consensus for way forward.

We welcome you all for this unique scientific fest and look forward for your

Diabetes and periodontitis are the most common

chronic diseases in the community. Scientific

evidence states that diabetes is associated with

an increased prevalence and severity of

periodontal diseases, and severe periodontal

disease adversely effects glycemic control. Hence

the understanding of this association between the

two diseases is crucial. This unique symposium,

the first of its kind on the national platform is a

collaborative venture of Indian Society of

Periodontology (ISP) & Research Society for

Study of Diabetes in India (RSSDI). The scientific

deliberations aim at unfolding the risk associations

between the two disease giants, possible

consensus and future directions for holistic clinical

management.
