A Message From Brian C. Hughes Riverside Campus Launches with a BANG!

Something powerful is happening at PCC. I don’t know if you can feel it, but from the hallways of our offices to the

parking lot on Sunday mornings to the team meetings I’m in to the lunch tables around our community, there is a lot of talk about what’s happening at our church. I saw a very cool post on someone’s Facebook page after their first visit to PCC a couple of weeks ago. It said

(continued on page 5)

Over a year in the making, PCC’s Riverside Campus launched with a bang on September 8th at 10:30AM. Based in Bremo Bluff, VA, at the southern end of Fluvanna County, this campus started creating buzz from day one. “We’re located right on Route 15 in what use to be THE hardware store in the area,” says Campus Pastor, Chauncey Starkey. “Anyone going anywhere would have passed by and noticed us renovating over the last year.”

Indeed, many DID notice. 238 people showed up for the first service! Christine Peyton, a producer for the Powhatan Campus was there to produce Riverside’s very first service and witnessed the excitement: “To be there in the moment was exhilarating and very emotional. You could see the joy in the room, through tears and through the smiles on people’s faces.”

Small groups are starting this month at the Riverside Campus and adults and students alike are already making plans to get together outside of Sundays. Says Pastor Starkey, “It’s just amazing who’s getting involved - people from grade school to age 98 are coming back and plugging in.” God is at work at our church – now at THREE physical campuses and online.

October PCC Kids Highlights

First Steps (Birth-K)

Did you know God chose Samson and Jonah for a special work? In October, First Steps kids will learn that God chooses us, too! We’ll even hear from some PCC folks that God chose for mission trips this past summer. Come have fun with us as we journey into the belly of a whale, watch a strong man, and hear exciting tales from around the world!

PowerJam (Grades 1-6)

PowerJammers join us this month on the “Road to Glory,” a sports theme with a twist, sure to be entertaining! We will focus on the virtue of Honor, which is letting someone know you see how valuable they really are. We’ll look at the stories of David and Jonathan in the Bible. Kids and servers are encouraged to wear t-shirts or jerseys of their favorite sports team each week. It’s go-time!

Kid’s Story of the Month

PCC is not just a place for adults to explore their faith. Every Sunday children of all ages and abilities walk into PCC Kids classrooms with lots of questions.

This is what one mom said recently about her child’s experience at PCC:

“Thank you for believing in him. Thank you for a church that doesn’t turn away kids like mine because they don’t know how to work with them. Thank you for a church that accepts kids for who they are with open arms. Thank you for a church that is so set on teaching kids about God- ALL kids, that they are going to have a group that knows how to work with kids like him & others, so that each kid knows God’s love for them. Thank you for showing my son that he is loved!”

PCC Students Prepare for Summer Mission Trips

Meet Our Staff!

The current teenage and young adult generation has a purpose; they want to change the world.

They look around and see people who are hurting, who are lost, who are living in conditions that are inhumane, who are living without the basic necessities we take for granted. And it’s not okay with them. They want to change it.

Tackling all the world’s problems is too much. It’s unattainable and unrealistic. But changing one person’s life? Making one person’s living conditions humane? Showing one person that God loves them, when everything about their life indicates that He couldn’t possibly love them? That’s attainable and realistic. And it’s what we do on our summer mission trips in PCC’s student ministry.

Summer mission trips have become the rallying cry of our student ministry. Students beg, borrow, and earn money to go on these trips to help other people. Adults give up weeks of vacation and pay money to drive carpools of teenagers hours away, to sleep on the floors of old schools, to eat cafeteria food, and to worship with teenagers as they pour out their hearts to God, and to work alongside teenagers as they do, indeed, change one life at a time.

“I get to go out into Powhatan County, meet

people where they are on their journey, and

let them know that PCC exists and that it’s church...just different!”

“I really wanted to be a greater part of PCC at Westchester and

help people feel more comfortable as they come

and check out PCC.”

“My favorite thing about serving is improving the

service so people who can’t come to a physical campus have the same experience as those who do come to a

physical campus.”

“Pressure Points” Series Begins

As Small Groups kick off with the Pressure Points study on October 6, PCC will kick off a Sunday morning series following along the same theme.

Pressure is all around us. Everywhere. The book of James offers understanding

and wisdom for keeping pressure from ruining our lives and those around us. Join us on Sundays, October 6 – November 10, as we learn how to deal positively with pressure in a God-honoring, life-giving way.

As we follow God and reach more people, we’re also learning new things about our communities and how to be more effective. There is a lot of conversation happening about growing each of our campuses to their full capacity in multiple services and larger theaters. Every one of these conversations have had an air of excitement and a high level of energy. We’ve figured out how to connect people - you’ll see that in the coming weeks. And we’re learning how to help people grow, too.

It’s an amazing time to be at PCC. God is about to do something new among us, and I’m so glad you’re here to be a part of it. Invite a friend to church and hang on - this is going to be fun!

Coming up in October

The Blue Team, PCC’s senior leadership team, has been hard at work on PCC’s latest thematic goal – developing and launching a connections booth. We want getting involved at PCC to be quick, easy, and clear.

“We’ve known for a long time that an organization as large as PCC needs systems and designated leaders to connect people to God and to others,” says Guide Pastor, Angie Frame. “We’ve heard from people, and we’ve felt the frustration ourselves, as people have wanted to get involved but haven’t known where to start. We have an answer to that question now!”

By the end of this year, we plan for each of our physical campuses to have a centralized connections location on Sunday mornings. This will be an accessible, visible, regular place to direct people to take their next step. People will be able to investigate and to sign-up for volunteer positions, small groups (other than during small group sign-ups), workshops, and classes.

Connections Hot Spot is Coming!

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard

your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:6-7, NIV)

“In 2013, through baptism at PCC, 112 people made public their decisions to follow Christ.
