1 am working on a booklet of the descendants of John POLLOCK and SarahSM ITH. who came to America in 1800 Many of their descendants settled in RichlandCo. Am researching the following related families: POLLOCK, DOUGLAS(S),DOUGLAS(S), McCULLY,ADRAIN, DANIELS, FERGUSON, JOHNSTON, BELL,PATTERSON, HAL~ CANTWELL, LEPPO, HULL, SCHLOSSER, PEARC~READ, COOK, WELCH, BEACH, COLE, TAYLOR, EGGERT, and WELDON.Bill Sowers, 1746 Fairmont Rd, Topeka, KS 6660.

Wm. Wentz and Marion Perkins were arrested last Wednesday evening for being drunk and disorderly. Afracture in the peace of their respective domiciles was caused by the lords getting biling full and Perkinsstriking his wife, a very pretty little lady. The trouble occurred at their homes near the Ford lumber yard.Perkins was fined $20 and costs and Wentz $8.60 They went below until the amounts were paid. Anintricate problem of relationship developed itself in the marriage of Wm. Wentz. He, the younger of twobrothers, married a lady who had a daughter; the elder brother married this daughter, making his sister-in-lawhis mother-in-law and his younger brother his father in law and at the same time his step-father. The elderlady is therefore the sister-in-law of her own daughter, also of her step-son by marriage through his stepfather-in-Iaw's (this expression is permissible under the circumstances) step-daughter. The step-father, beingthe youngest of the quartette, is therefore the baby of the family, while he is a brother-in-law of his wife, whois his cider brother's step-mother and mother-in-law. A jewel was added to the problem by a baby born to thedaughter and elder brother. Now the baby's grandmother is its aunt and its grandfather its uncle. Its father isits cousin by marriage while its own mother is its--mother. Who rung a chestnut bell? - found in theRichland Shield and Banner, March 1887.

, _ o o Or-rThe Burial of Leonard Stillu'agon

Lconard Stillwagon, aged about 24 1,'ears, died onWednesday of last weck at his hone, fivc milcs north ofthis city. His death is said to have been caused b1'brainfever. The young man had been married about two 1'ears,his wife bcing a daughter of David Porvell. After hisdcath there arose a spirited controvers)'betrveen the wifeand the father of the deceased as to where the remainsshould be buried. The wife desired that the interment bemade at the cemetery adjoining the brick church, a halfrnile from the late home of the deceased, and rvhich issaid to be a beautiful burying ground. It is but naturalthat the bereaved wife should desire that her husband'sbody be intcrred near her homc. But the fathcr (ourinformant says out of pure contrariness) rvouldn't have itso and insisted that the burial should be made at theSickinger cemetery, south of Mansfield, bccause othermembers of the family were buried there. The wife hada right to have the bodl' buried rvhere she wished, but inthe intcrest of peace and harmonl' shc waived her right, but no sooner had she agreed to have the burial talie placeat Sickinger's than the elder Stillw'agon changed his mindand ordered the grave to be dug at Emanuel church, eastof this city, and some ten miles from the home of theStillwagons; and in support of this freak he declared thathis son had said some ten years ago that he wantcd to beburied at Emanuel cemetery, rvhich is little better than adreary wilderness. No one bclieved this story, but the old

man lvas determined to have his own way and had it - fora brief period only. The funeral came off Friday and theburial took place at Emanuel. M. P. Schambs, of thiscih', rvas the undertalier. Fnday night several of thcneighbors and friends of Mrs. Stillwagon came toMansfield and, securing the services of the undertaker, procceded to Emanuel Church, resurrected the body, conveyed it back to the brick church cemetery, near theStillwagon home, where it was reinterred at 4 o'clockSaturday morning. This proceeding was without theknowledge of the father, but we have not heard what heproposes to do about it. In fact he can't do anything. Itis said that the wife. in addition to her desire to have hcrhusband buried near her home, was prompted by the fearthat the physicians would try to get the body fordissection. The cause of the young man's death wassomewhat complicated and some of the Mansfieldph1'sicians wanted to hold a post-mortem examination, butwere defeated in their wish, although the father wasfavorable to the proposition. The affair has caused quitea stir in the neighborhood and the people all seem to beon the wife's side in the controversy. One of the reportscurrent is that by the father's direction the grave atEmanuel was made very shallow so that the doctors couldobtain the body without too much trouble. There isprobably no truth in this story but we are informed bythose in a position to know that the box was only aboutthree feet below the surface of the ground.- fuchland Shield and Banner. 12 Julv 1884.

The Burial of Leonard Stillwagon

Leonard Stillwagon, aged about 24 years, died onWednesday of last week at his home, five miles north ofthis city. His death is said to have been caused by brainfever. The young man had been married about two years, his wife being a daughter of David Powell. After hisdeath there arose a spirited controversy between the wifeand the father of the deceased as to where the remainsshould be buried. The wife desired that the interment bemade at the cemetery adjoining the brick church, a halfmile from the late home of the deceased, and which issaid to be a beautiful bUI)'ing ground. It is but naturalthat the bereaved wife should desire that her husband'sbody be interred near her home. But the father (ourinfornlant says out of pure contrariness) wouldn't have itso and insisted that the burial should be made at theSickinger cemetery, south of Mansfield, because othermembers of the family were buried there. The wife hada right to have the body buried where she wished, but inthe interest of peace and harmony she waived her right, but no sooner had she agreed to have the burial take placeat Sickinger's than the elder Stillwagon changed his mindand ordered the grave to be dug at Emanuel church, eastof this city, and some ten miles from the home of theStillwagons; and in support of this freak he declared thathis son had said some ten years ago that he wanted to beburied at Emanuel cemetery, which is little better than adreary wilderness. No one believed this story, but the old

man was determined to have his own way and had it - fora brief period only. The funeral came off Friday and theburial took place at Emanuel. M. P. Schambs, of thiscity, was the undertaker. Friday night several of theneighbors and friends of Mrs. Stillwagon came toMansfIeld and, securing the services of the undertaker, proceeded to Emanuel Church, resurrected the body, conveyed it back to the brick church cemetery, near theStillwagon home, where it was reinterred at 4 o'clockSaturday morning. This proceeding was without theknowledge of the father, but we have not heard what heproposes to do about it. In fact he can't do anything. Itis said that the wife, in addition to her desire to have herhusband buried near her home, was prompted by the fearthat the physicians would try to get the body fordissection. The cause of the young man's death wassomewhat complicated and some of the MansfIeldphysicians wanted to hold a post-mortem examination, butwere defeated in their wish, although the father wasfavorable to the proposition. The affair has caused quitea stir in the neighborhood and the people all seem to beon the wife's side in the controversy. One of the reportscurrent is that by the father's direction the grave atEmanuel was made very shallow so that the doctors couldobtain the body without too much trouble. There isprobably no truth in this story but we are informed bythose in a position to know that the box was only aboutthree feet below the surface of the ground.- Richland Shield and Banner, 12 July 1884.
