WE CELEBRATE BAPTISM Baptism is celebrated on two Sundays of the month at 1:30PM. Parents must come to the Rectory to complete a special registration form for Baptism. Upon completion of the form, a Baptism date will be given by Sr. Mary. Please do not make arrangements for a Baptism Celebration before you get a Baptism date from Sr. Mary, as we may not be able to grant any special requests for a particular date. Parents of first children are required to attend one Baptism Preparation Class (as well as parents who have never participated in a Baptism class). Registration for the Baptism Preparation Class can be made at the time the Registration Form for Baptism is completed with Sr. Mary.

ANNULMENT – Reestablishing The Freedom To Marry An annulment can be described as a declara on of sacramental matrimonial invalidity. It is an official determina on made by an ecclesias cal court that at the

me of the marital consent exchanged by the par es a specific component of the marriage was lacking or defec ve. Hence, the marriage failed to be a sacramental marriage as defined by the Catholic Church. If you wish to reestablish your freedom to marry in the Church contact the Diocese of Rockville Centre. If you would first like to speak to someone who has been through this process, please contact Philip and Donna Liscia at: 631-942-4645.

Fr. Augustine’s Message Dear Parishioners,

As you realize, this is a difficult time for all of us physically and spiritually. For the safety of all, the Diocese of Rockville Centre has canceled all Masses, Sacra-ment celebrations and all gatherings in all the parishes. For the foreseeable future, we, like Christ on the Cross, are stripped of all that we as Catholics hold dear. But Christ has risen and we, too, have been raised with Him through Baptism. We are not deprived of God’s presence; by Baptism we have been filled with Christ’s Ho-ly Spirit. Through our daily prayer we remain in contact with our God who has conquered the world, who has promised to be with us always, and who will guide us through this trying time.

Father Augustine and the staff have decided on the following actions. • All weekday and weekend Masses are cancelled. Scheduled Mass Intentions

will be said by Fr. Augustine at his daily private Mass • Funerals will be not celebrated • Baptisms will be postponed unless absolutely necessary • All parish programs and activities are cancelled • The Church will be open for private prayer during the day • Our Outreach will be open Monday through Friday 10am-2pm • The Rectory Office will be open with limited hours. If you need to contact the

Rectory, please call 631-744-2609 before coming down During this time, our weekly expenses still need to be met. We appreciate any con-tribution that you would like to make to St. Anthony’s. You can drop off or mail it to the Rectory at: St. Anthony of Padua, 614 Route 25A, Rocky Point, NY 11778

My Dear People of God, faithful one of St. Anthony of Padua Parish Family. I wish you all a very happy Mothers day. I thank God for creating us in his image and like-ness, male and female, the family. "The Lord God said: 'It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a suitable partner for him' . The Lord God then built up into a woman the rib that he had taken from the man" (Gen 2:18, 22). This good is the women, and thus every mother carries that goodness for us. We have thus nothing but the appreciation for them in our hearts for their God given goodness. Happy mother's day to all. We come with nothing, we go with nothing, but one great thing we can achieve in our beauti-ful life is .... A little remembrance in someone's Mind and a small place in someone's Heart. The first one that we have is our mothers. Thank you for being the mothers. Two things that define us: our patience when we have nothing and our attitude when we have everything. This we can see in every loving mother. From the womb to the tomb, the dedication, care, love and patience our mothers do, is marvelous and we have only gratitude for them and grateful-ness to God for creating them. My prayer for you mother: I pray you will have confidence and strength today. May you know that God is always on your side, protecting you and fighting for you so that you be the best mother, as you are. Amen. Let the Blessed mother Mary, the mother of Jesus be a guide, inspiration and protection for you all. As soon as she gave herself to God to be the mother, she faced with difficulties unto foot of the cross on Calvary. But she went through all that as mother with the help of God, because angel Gabriel addressed her with the promise, "The Lord be with you". Mary believed it and trusted God in every way. She was right in that. Let her spirit be with you all mothers, specially in this time of trials. Let me conclude this wishes with a prayer:

Dear God, Touch the hearts of the people I love, my faithful one of St. Anthony of Pad-ua parish, make them happy and safe in this time of pain and struggle. Bless them with good health, especially the one who is reading this. Amen. God Bless you all and have a blessed Mother's Day. With lots of love and God's blessing. Fr. K. J. Augustine

Weekly Reflection FIFTH SUNDAY OF EASTER Throughout the Easter season, we hear the story of the earliest Christian communities in readings from the Acts of the Apostles. We hear how the people grappled with what it meant to place their faith and trust in the Lord, understanding that doing so called them to live differently—to follow Jesus’ way of love. This is more than a history les-son for us. As we hear how the people were drawn to Christ and learned to follow Jesus, we are invited to ask ourselves how fully we are taking the gospel to heart. Is Jesus our way, truth, and life? Do our daily actions an-nounce the praises of the Lord?

SAINT DAMIEN JOSEPH DE VEUSTER OF MOLOKA’I (1840-1889) - May 10 In the mid-1990s, a heavily bearded, bespec-tacled Robin Williams appeared on Late Night with David Letterman, whose host was clearly taken aback. Letterman inquired as to why the wild look. Uncharacteristically sub-dued, the usually manic comic responded that he was producing & starring in a movie about a most extraordinarily compassionate man, Damien, the Leper Priest of Moloka’i. Some saints transcend religious and ethnic boundaries to touch the heart that beats in each human being: Francis of Assisi; Mother Teresa; and, though Williams’ film was never completed, his admiration speaks, as does Damien’s statue outside the capitol in Hono-lulu, of this newest saint’s universal appeal. Far from his native Flanders’ idyllic beauty and rich culture, Damien volunteered to bear Christ’s light into Moloka’i’s bleak leper col-ony, building decent homes, opening schools, establishing clinics, planting farms, sharing the sufferings—and the social stigma—of those with whom he delighted to identify: “We lepers,” he would proudly say when fi-nally he contracted leprosy. Saint Damien challenges us to identify the lepers of our own day, to examine our compassion for and our identification with them. —Peter Scagnelli, Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

VOCATION Roman Catholics in the United States spend a good deal of time speaking of “vocation” and the manner in which each of us discerns our vocation for life. In today’s apostolic let-ter, however, Peter gives us the “cornerstone” of our vocation, the descrip-tion of what each of us is called to first and foremost by our baptism. He describes our vocation as “a chosen race, a royal priest-hood, a holy nation, a people of [God’s] own, so that you may announce the praises” of Christ, who called us out of darkness into light (1 Peter 2:9). All of us, no matter what path our life’s vocation may take us down, have been chosen by God, made holy, and anointed as priests in the high priesthood of Christ through baptism. All of this, so that we may announce the praises of Christ. Vo-cation is given for proclamation at home, in the workplace—wherever life takes us—in service, in word, and in sacrament. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

DON’T BE AFRAID. DO THE WORKS OF CHRIST In the Gospel passage we heard today, Jesus was preparing the apostles for a time when he would not be with them physically. Jesus wanted to reassure the apostles, even though he knew they were having a difficult time understanding. We sometimes struggle to grasp the Lord’s ways, too. We know that God is with us in Christ through the Holy Spirit, and yet, when we really have to act in accord with our faith, we sometimes falter. Jesus tells us to not be afraid. Have faith in Christ and do his works. We may be sur-prised at what we are able to do when we trust and follow Jesus’ way. And we are as-sured that God will be with us through it all.

Parish Outreach

St. Anthony’s Outreach continues to be open for both food distributions and food donations.

Our current hours are: 10am to 2pm from Monday to Friday.

Please be aware that we are following the Governor’s guidelines and are requiring all

visitors to wear a face covering. This is for your protection as much as it is for ours.

We will continue to update this page with our most urgent needs. Our shelves are becoming a

little bare and we could use the following:

Spaghetti sauce, pasta, cereals, soups and tuna.

Thank you for your continuing assistance in keeping our brothers and sisters feed during

these unusual circumstances.
