perfect location for youth to spend all, or part, of their summer since 1933. Programs are designed to enrich the lives of young people by
helping them develop confidence, self-esteem, character values and achievement in a safe, challenging and fun environment.

CAMPER GROUPINGSCampers are placed into coed groups of youth theirown age. Each TP has a counselor to maintain a groupof 1:12 ratio; Braves operate on a smaller ratio of 1:6.Camp activities are modified to be age-appropriate foreach group. In addition, each session includes specialdays with theme based fun.

OVERNIGHTS One overnight is offered per session for Tonaweh,Oyaneh, Sachem and Tioga campers. Registrationforms will be available in a digital copy in your sessionnewsletters via email, and in print by request or in theoffice. Dinner and Breakfast is provided to campers onthe overnight, but they are requested to pack twolunches that will be refrigerated at camp. Space islimited on the overnights and will be first-come, first-serve for all units.
CIT PROGRAMThe Counselor-in-Training program is for teens whohave completed the 9th grade and have a desire towork with youth in a group setting. The programfocuses on developing and enhancing valuableleadership traits in a fun, safe, and values-orientedenvironment. Through interactive training,teambuilding activities, and hands-on learningexperiences, teens will foster the skills necessary forserving youth in a positive work environment. Thesummer will conclude with a CIT celebration.
CAMP STAFFYou can depend on the YMCA to make sure that CampIroquois and activity areas are well supervised. Ourstaff are well-trained before and during the summerand are attentive to details. As role models, campstaff are selected for sound judgment, maturity,experience and enthusiasm. Many staff are campalumni. In addition to specialty staff, counselors, andlifeguards, the camp also has an on-site MedicalDirector. All staff members are interviewed and gothrough a complete background check prior to beinghired. Pre-camp training topics include safety,character development, behavior management, andemergency procedures.
INCLUSIONSUPPORT SERVICESThe Hal Welsh East Area Family YMCA is proud topartner with AccessCNY to provide support services tochildren with special needs through the Office for Peoplewith Developmental Disabilities (OPWDD). Through thispartnership the Y is able to provide 1:1 or sharedsupport counselors to children who qualify at noadditional cost to the family. The Y also raises moneyfor our annual campaign to provide support to camperswho do not qualify for our grant funding. Campers of allabilities are able to enjoy summer camp in a safe,supportive and inclusive environment.

THE CHILL ZONEWhile our goal is to have each camper fully engaged inevery activity, we understand that children with specialneeds may need breaks through out the day. The ChillZone is equipped with different materials like play-doh,coloring supplies, fidget toys, and a quiet corner as wellas air conditioning. The playhouse also serves as anarea where campers who need full assistance changingcan be supported while maintaining the camper’sprivacy.
