A Message from the SBRGC President Watch the web page because the rainy season has started and it will cause range closures.
We need Range Safety Officers We are looking for club members interested in becoming Range Safety Officers and Trap Range Safety Officers. Basic safety indicates that we need more than one RSO on a given range and some ranges require more than two RSOs. With five active ranges, we have many open spots to fill. For more information contact the Chief Range Safety Officer, Jeff Chambers at phone: 619-710-5838, email : [email protected]. When you become a SBRGC RSO there are benefits: 1. Key to the range
2. You can open a range by yourself for your usage.
3. Once you serve one year (As per the SOP) your membership is free as long as you continue to serve.
4. Annual Dinner that the club pays for your dinner tickets for you and a guest. Only one duty day a month (Your Choice) However we prefer that you pick days where we have shortages.
Property Development: Range 6 - "K" Rails have been installed in the middle of the parking lot and along the outer edge to help control parking. The next big project is the removal of the water tank on the south west area of the parking lot. This tank will be relocated to the Ranch to replace an older water tank. Ranch - Demolition of the walls in the Ranch House (Future Club House) continues.
UTILITIES ELECTRICAL UPGRADE: The utilities upgrade is planned for Range 6. Range Estimated start date is in March/April 2017, final dates will be published in the News Letter when available. When sched-uled, Range 6 will be closed Mon-Fri for contractor, (SDG&E or ATT), to work down range. Contract has been released to the contractor.
WORK PARTY NOTICE: The work party for Mar 4 is scheduled and you are invited to attend. Some of the Projects scheduled include: Continued work on the Phone System, work on the interior demo of the club house on the ranch, Welding on Target Stands, Cleaning the "K" rails for painting. The more members who attend the more jobs get done.
New Phone System: The new phone system is being installed on the range complex and has many features. Estimated completion is in 60 days. New features include:
Emergency Phone on each range. Capability to call between ranges. Capability to transfer incoming phone calls to any range. Capability to have a Credit Card machine on each range. Capability to have any range as the check in range (Note: If the current check in range (i.e. Range 6) is
closed the check in range will be moved to another range and has full capabilities)
Firearms Laws. California Department of Justice (DOJ) is in the process of defining what the voters passed in prop 63. Once the process is complete they will publish these for review. At present the DOJ has drafted two plans on the implementation of the laws, one for Magazines and one for Assault Weapons and both have been pulled due to issues. The laws will still take effect but we don't know how it will be implemented. Stay tuned.

The Schuetzenguilde was rained out again for our January match on the 22nd, so we decided to hold a make-up match for those who could come the following Sunday. We had eight shooters on a pretty nice January day. We would like to welcome a couple of new (to us) shooters: Rick Calvin and Dominic Erlbeck. Hope to see you both again! Our match in March, on the 28th, will be for centerfire rifles with any sights at 200 yards. Course of fire is 20 shots for record from the bench and 20 shots for record offhand. As always, you have unlimited sighters. January scores as follows:

Knocking down these big critters is lots of fun, so if you haven’t tried it, dust off that old lever gun hiding in the back of the safe and come on out! Bring 50 rounds of ammo – 40 for the match and 5 or 10 to sight in. 30-30 is a perfect caliber, but anything between 357Mag and 45-70 works, so long as it’s safe in a tube magazine. Course of fire is 10 rounds each: Chickens at 50 yards, Pigs at 100 yards, Turkeys at 150 yards and Rams at 200 yards.
Garrow Firearms Development Inc First Gas operated 17 HMR semi automatic. *Runs on the popular AR-15 platform* You may have seen me at the rifle range testing a prototype AR-15. I was the guy with 100's of 17HMR cases on the ground blasting zombie targets at the 50 yard range.
I am starting production of an upper receiver assembly that shoots from a gas operated, locked, bolt. Designed in safety features that prevent firing unless it is in battery. Works on any Mil-Spec lower. Includes complete upper, buffer-spring assembly, two 10 round magazines, and instructions.
I am offering these at $499.00 to club members!

Congratulations to our winners. Welcome to our new shooters. Thanks to all for your participation.
2017 is going to be an interesting year. We have what I believe is a pro gun President - after 8yrs of anti-gun politics. But, Californians are seeing a very Liberal Left movement with restrictions and prohibitions pouring out of the State legislature as to what you can buy, own, or use - this might be the worst year in my 30 yrs of being here. Support the CRPA, NRA, and write your elected representatives . Our next Match is April 30, Dave

a. Alternative Rifles may be either semi-auto or manually operated and must be chambered for the 5.56 x 45mm NATO cartridge (.223).
b.Optical sights with a manufactured maximum of 4.5X are permitted.
c.These rifles must have a minimum 4.5-pound trigger pull, a maximum barrel length of 20 inches and a fixed sling swivel on their fore-ends.

REDUCED PALMA MATCH February 2017 Our Reduced Palma Match was rained out for the third month in a row! Oh well, at least the State’s water reservoirs are full.
Local weather did not stop our F‐TR guys from compe ng in the 6 day long 2017 Berger Southwest Na onals at Phoenix. They sent me the following report. “The South Bay F‐TR Class shooters headed out to Phoenix, AZ, to miss the rain but not that X ring.
Mark Roth (the Mr. Clean) had a stellar match winning a relay, first with 10x’s then 19x's in a row for a 200‐19x,
WOW. Mark also placed 3rd in other matches and finished with a score that would have won the championship last
year. Lee Davis started with one of his best scores at 800 yards, a 199.
Lee Davis and Gary Atkinson won a very impressive 4th place in the Team match. Bill Baston took advantage of the
many clinics offered by the best shooters in the country. Bill Tusch was as steady as ever pos ng big scores in very
windy condi ons.”

NRA High Power Rifle Match February 12, 2017
Is this a new South Bay Range Record? A 792/800 is not bad! Some former Match Directors are looking through old Match Reports for the answer. So far, Mark Heckman has found a 795-32X fired by Eric on 14 June 2009. We will keep searching old files as I would like to keep track of our best scores. BTW, Eric is the 2013 National Champion! “Many Thanks!!” to Mike StClair for running the line. Also, thanks to all the Shooters that braved the possibility of bad weather and came out to shoot. It turned out to be a very nice day. Knowing the Services were issuing ACOGS to troops and seeing the popularity of scoped ARs at our range, it seemed time to expand what we permit for sights. Three years ago, I started writing to the NRA Rules Committee to allow optical sights (ACOGS, scopes). As of 2016, optical sights have been allowed in NRA High Power. As predicted, optical sights are becoming more popular on the firing line. Popular yes, but I am not certain optical sights will make a big difference in scores for beginning shooters or the more experienced ones. After all, Eric’s 2009 795-32x was done with iron sights, and because of the guy behind the sights! So whatever you are using, keep getting better with it. For now the type of sights do not seem to be changing the scores. If that does change, iron sights have such an historic place in shooting, we will offer a local match category for them. For the High Power Shooters wishing to improve their 600 yd skills we have been driving over to the Imperial Valley Rifle & Pistol Association’s Mid-Range and High Power Matches. We always receive a warm welcome.
