Odysseus tells the Phaeacians the story of his attack on Cyclops..

At Ismarus, he and his men plunder the land, but they turn and attack,

killing six men per ship…

Zeus sends a

storm for nine days

which leads

them to the land

of the Lotus-

eaters..

There, the natives give his men an intoxicating fruit that hypnotizes them

into wanting more and more..

They eventually sail to the

land of Cyclops, where

there are caves and

sheep..

Polyphemus (son of Poseidon) eats two of Odysseus’ men and locks him

up in a cave for later feasting..

Plotting his escape,

Odysseus burns a

staff in the cave to use

as a weapon on

Cyclops..

Odysseus says that his name is “nobody” and prepares to kill him,

knowing that Cyclops does not know his real name…

Odysseus gouges out a monster’s eye, who then calls for Cyclops, and the

men prepare to blind him…

Odysseus blinds him and they escape, and he confidently shouts his own name as they sail away from the permanently blinded Cyclops….

Cyclopsprays to his

father to take

vengeance on Odysseus
