Real, Dr. Peter T. Dayot is hereby designated as OIC, Office of the President, NORSU, effective immediately until this designation is sooner revoked.”

With 37.43% passing rate, Negros oriental State University (NorSU) system has registered a total of 524 passers from the conducted licensure Examination for teachers (lEt) last august 17, 2014.

The results showed that 360 elementary and 164 secondary teachers out of the 1, 400 hopeful takers from the entire system of NORSU have passed the board exam.

From the elementary level, there were about 92 education graduates from NORSU Guihulngan City, 91 from NORSU Bayawan-Sta. Catalina, 83 from NORSU Dumaguete City Main Campus I, 54 from NORSU Bais and 40 from NORSU Siaton who passed the August L.E.T posting 47.94% rate.

Meanwhile, the passing average of 25.27% for the entire secondary level comprised the 62 education graduates from NORSU Main Campus I, 38 from Bayawan-Sta. Catalina, 31 from NORSU Bais 20 from NORSU Guihulngan City and 13 from NORSU Siaton.

As recorded, this year’s passing rate is 2. 83% lower compared to last year’s 40.26% system wide percentage.

Moreover, for the entire country, a total of 25,301 elementary teachers out of 70,786 examinees passed with 35.74% passing rate and 26,767 secondary teachers out of 77,803 takers succeed having 34.40% ratings from the August LET as released by the Professional Regulation Commission and the Board of Professional Teachers.

Moreover, the OIC is required to render reports to the BOR on actions taken in the performance of his duties, and shall endeavor at all t imes to maintain the stability and regularity of

the academic and administrative operation of the university.

The CSO added, in case these [duties and responsibilities] exceed

routinary activities, the same should be endorsed to the BOR for approval.

To note, a majori ty of seven members from the BOR signed the Resolution No. 101 that was issued

Let’s face it! Almost all of our bachelor degree graduates enter the realm of the real university world and encounter lots of rumbles and crumbles as they go along with their journey. And the most rewarding yet the most critical stage within their life is the recognition from their board exams, which determines their capacity or what their abilities are. This could also be reflected to the university in general, and to those individuals who hone them to be prepared with lots of guns and plenty of ammos in hand.

Their preparation could have been that simple and effortless if they are used to be dwelling in the fields before that critical stage, or to those courses that do not require graduates to take board exams at all (they will have to take Civil Service Exams for their professions). But hard and tough for those that are yet to enter the gates of the nerve-wracking event.

For the first time, the Department of Psychology will be facing this hurdle for their students, thus preparing ahead for the incoming battle.

This decision was made through the implementation of the Psychology Law Implementing Rules and Regulations (IRR) of the Psychological Association of the Philippines (PAP). It could be inferred that in this implementation, only those well-trained and practiced psychologists, who bear the standards of professionalism and excellence must be offering psychological services, because they are globally competitive and at the same time they protect public trust from inexperienced and untrained individuals.

The department is said to have been preparing for the Psychometrician Board Licensure Examination (PBLE). Subjects for Psychometrician Licensure Examination are the Theories of Personality, Abnormal Psychology, Industrial Psychology, and Psychological Assessment, respectively.

The question is, are their staff trained enough to teach the students of psychology the things that they have to know for them to be well aware of the incoming board exams? If they were not able to take the said PBLE, would it still be possible for them to guide those college students towards excellence? Do they bear competitiveness among others? Surely, now that they have to prepare for this one, all of their instructors and students have to work hand-in-hand towards achieving the victory that they are aiming for. Not just that. This has to be helped upon by the whole university in general. Because after all, things will be better if people from the whole community tap each other for work to be easier.

So, kudos and good luck to those students who will be taking the Psychometrician Board Licensure Examination. We all know that you can do it. And don’t forget to bring home the bacon for yourself, and for the pride of the whole university.

can’t help but wait

chasing for justiceJustice is a seven letter-word simply defined by

Merriam-Webster Dictionary as a quality of being just, impartial or fair. The same account also widen its description as the process or result of using laws to fairly judge and punish crimes and criminals.

Earlier last week, the whole town was in full alarm after numerous killing cases happened in some areas and municipalities of the province. The issues did not only become the main topic of the streets but it, as well spread in various print media industry in the local level. In short, it has been the bread and wine of concerns of most Dumagueteños since those are rare and unpredictable occurrences happening within the province.

To tell you the story, one of the killing incidents happened last month in a barangay of Mabinay where a 16-year old high school student was brutally killed in their house receiving 17 stabs and hack of wounds on its body. As posted in the social network sites, many netizens pursued to seek for the justice of the said victim.

It started with a pressure. Yet we’re immune to that (entering BS Accountancy Program). For all you know, such program is dubbed as a ‘self-study’ course, but it doesn’t mean that our instructors are not doing their part. Well, this instructor of mine gave us some resources or materials to study, cater all our problems and concerns related to accounting or business in general. But because of this line, “Ang matira, matibay”, we are trembling to death! Because of that, we do all the things that we must

do. Study here, review there, study again, and so on and so forth, until we feel that our entire body is collapsing and our minds are exploding.

the predicaments NotE: I used “we” instead of “I”, just like what

I’ve said earlier, because those are the sentiments of the majority of my colleagues. If you put the blame on me? Then fine, I’ll shoulder the consequences.

Okay! Here we go! It’s enrolment day, and my classmates were very depressed upon seeing those grades in one of our major subjects. So what we did, we tried to open the subject and to prove to them that we can do it for the second time around. We’re so optimistic that time. We patiently followed the processing until we reached the point that I, myself, didn’t expect to happen! It’s so shocking! You know what? We were not permitted to reopen the subject! And what’s more confusing? The Engineering and Nursing students were indorsed which had the same scenario like us. How about ours? Could it be the reason that we had a low passing rate recently? Or certainly because it is not a flagship program that needs to be prioritized?

the solutionOn our part, it seems like our fate to become what we

ought to be in the future is not yet fully destined to us. We can’t do nothing. It’s their own assessment, anyway. It’s final and irrevocable. What we can do today is to continue striving, focus more and more in our specialization, and study harder.

Hence, we understand also the situation. Of course, we can’t deny the fact that in taking the board exam, the

to poverty perhaps, this unknown suspects tend to steal something from the victims to sustain the needs of their families and that they have no choice but to kill the innocent in order to hide their identity.

The fate of the victim was really terrible. Being killed by someone is a heart breaking death that all of us didn’t really want to experience. Perhaps, during those incidents, the innocent doesn’t expect her life will be taken by someone’s brutality. Maybe she still has lots of things to do and that she has not yet completed her mission as an ordinary human creation.

However, it is indeed unacceptable for the killers to act in that way since committing such deed is totally a mortal sin. The culprits behind the said killing must answer the lost and damage it has caused most importantly, the sufferings it brought to the families of the victims who, until this time, can’t still recover from the loss of their love one. They should really face the crime and be punished under due process of law.

But the question this time is—when will the murderers pay the life they took out of doing such violence? How will the victim and her family claim the justice they had been waiting for? When will the government solve the cases of killing for the justification of its people?

Not to conclude, but it seems that justice here in our country is really as blurry as the old lens. There are already numerous killing cases that are being investigated but until today justice is still waiting. The law enforcers are still weak in implementing the law of the land and the government still remains silent and blind rejecting those poor and unfortunate citizens who wanted fairness and action.

With this terrible crime, I hope it will be a painful slap of awakening for individuals with power and authority in this nation, that they may be warned to improve the current practices of providing justice in this country. It has been few weeks now since the incidents happened but justice and impartiality have still been too far to chase.

It was already 2:00 in the morning. I (still six) and mom were still up waiting for my dad—and he was drunk. It was the first time that I have witnessed him acting so seriously wild that he dropped the kettle’s lid. Shivering and feeling cold, I was obviously afraid. I appreciated mom for trying to calm me down but I knew she was also terrified. It took like an hour helping him get to bed. He is not really a hard drinker. It just happened that my uncle had celebrated his birthday.

I was the only child in our family at that time. Yes I know, I’ve been loved. Their whole attention was given to me. I could still remember one of our neighbors who would bring me to their home because they like having someone to be with- a young sweetheart girl. My mom trusted them anyway.

Years passed by and many things have changed. They are not always what they used to be. I then enrolled myself from basic school to secondary and from being the only child to having four siblings. Now my parents’ attention was divided. Honestly, I hated most of the times being the eldest because you seemed to be the second mother of the family—literally!

In my teen age life, my parents became so strict. Obviously, most parents do, but in my part they are different. “Parents are always right” and I totally agree with this, but I hope they are going to understand me too.

One night, my cousin went to our place and invited me to watch circus. Me as quite innocent about it, was dying to witness the show. They said it’s beautiful and mind blowing so I was encouraged and convinced. As a product of curiosity and been so bored at home, I was brave enough to ask for my parents’ permission. Guess what! They did not allow me. That led me to do some stupid and rebellious thing. I inhaled rugby just because my parents did not want me to do the things that I desired. But I never did that inhaling thing again, it’s disgusting. Oh yeah! I know how immoral it was! It was a mess.

Later, I took a deep thought. I asked myself “Will I be lost if I’m going to obey them?” I guess I won’t. Every mom and dad will do everything just to make their child be in the better place. Then I have accepted that there is no turning back, I mean they will always be strict and I believe following them is the right choice. Since I chose to understand my parents (or accepted the fact that that was what life is), I indulged myself in isolation and did not socialize with people in the society. You can barely see me in our place going out with friends because I do not bother myself with the freedom which I know is impossible to achieve.

For a better tomorrow, I chose to leave home and went to the city and am now living on my own. Nobody can stop me from doing whatever I like with my life. In my first year in the university, it was not that hard for me to adjust with the new environment. I know I have guts and am flexible enough to blend with people around me. I was trying to figure everything out. I am quiet. Of course I have lots to say but I cannot express it to people around me. Maybe because I need a one-on-one talk. Most people say I am austere. If you think I am, then you are wrong. There are just instances where I do not want to talk and you can’t do nothing but to understand my personality as I am. You know I am not being fake. I let people see who’s the real me. The real me inside. Can we just forget judging people because they see us differently from the outside? Every person has a kindness, and you just can’t say that that person is a filthy one.

I am pretty sure that friends of mine have been complaining about me being so quiet and why I never say something in a group. I know who I am and it is hard to change. I do not care if people out there do not like me. Well, they can back off. I do not need some of them anyway. Judge me! Call me mean. Okay!

Can this be the product of having strict parents? I dunno. I myself has to fathom this question inside. Honestly, I don’t understand what’s going on inside me.

Though I am far from home, I can still feel my authoritarian parents but I am glad because I was loved. Tell you what! Just a missed call from my mom makes me nervous and I then pretend to be alright. I am afraid. I do not want them to get mad.

With this, I could say that I am living in solitude. So don’t be like me. Treasure the moments of freedom and live life to the fullest.

It’s been few weeks since I am acting very lousy. I am very frustrated because I am on probation this semester because I have two failed subjects last semester. We suggest that you must focus on your subjects and put efforts to attain a satisfying remark. THE NORSUNIAN (TN), the official weekly student publication of Negros oriental State University, conducted the 8th lakra tinta gathering student-journalists and school paper advisers throughout the NorSU System.

In i t s a im to s t rengthen journalistic skills among young journalists of NORSU, the two-day annual journalism seminar of TN was attended by more than 100 student-journalists from the satellite campuses and different colleges in Main Campuses I and II.

Lakra Tinta highlighted important journalism lectures in News and Feature Writing including the advent of modern-day influential events and the significant spread of real-life information which were discussed by The Freeman Assistant News Editor Joeberth Ocao and Fiction Writer and Don Carlos Palanca Awardee, Ian Casocot, respectively.

Moreover, NORSU Mass Communication Department Chair Joy Perez and Silliman University-College of Mass Communication Dean Ma. Cecilia Genove gave their separate lectures on Editorial and Column Writing, respectively, citing different points to consider in writing the different opinion-oriented articles.

lecture on photography and related it on photojournalism. Meanwhile, Negros Chronicle Editorial Cartoonist Sisinio Patrimonio discussed the different aspects in Editorial Cartooning.

DYGB News Anchor and NORSU Mass Communication instructor, Romulo Amarado, tackled his lectures on Responsible Journalism and discussed the practices that journalist must follow and consider.

Participants of the event were student-journalists and school paper advisers of NORSU-Guihulngan Campus , NORSU-Ba i s C i ty Campuses, NORSU-Mabinay, NORSU-Siaton, NORSU-Bayawan-Sta. Catalina Campus and NORSU-Main Campuses I and II particularly the colleges of Arts and Sciences, Business Administration, Education, Engineering and Architecture, Criminal Justice Education and Industrial Technology.

Representatives of The Pylon, Student Government of Dumaguete City I (SGDC-I) and NORSU Scholars Federation (NSF) also attended the said seminar which was held in Perpetual Help Community Cooperative Incorporated (PHCCI) Building, Dumaguete City on November 8-9.

According to a radio reporter and a current Mass Communication student Bobby Valencia, the seminar opened his understanding between the distinction of broadcast and the print media. “Pressure and deadlines goes to print. Though I

also write my news in broadcast, still, print presses more pressure.”

“The seminar was very helpful and informative. The speakers gave us a new perspective on journalism which inspired us even more. It was great fun to make new friends and meet other students who had the same

“Seeing the smiles and positive Facebook posts of the participants makes me conclude that the event was really successful. All the speakers were brilliant and the participants were

Officer-in-Charge Dr. Peter Dayot who was present during the blessing ceremony expressed his satisfaction knowing that NORSU finally has its additional transportation repaired and blessed after a number of years of negligence.

Furthermore, students and faculty can now enjoy the school

facility as renting of the said bus is now operational. As disclosed by the University Supply Office, bus rentals are calculated according to details of each trip. This serves as a solution for group transportation, fieldtrips and other out-of-campus activities of the university.

To recall, the old bus was engaged in an accident that occurred during the fieldtrip of the university

faculty and staff at Sipalay City, Negros Occidental last 2011. Based on the investigation of the said accident, the bus lost its control with its brakes, however, no casualties were reported.

a N o t h E r P r I D E o f Negros oriental State University (NORSU) stood out in the field of poetry after literature professor Dr. cesar ruiz aquino won the Nick Joaquin Poetry award on September 11, 2014 at ramon m a g s a y s a y c e n t e r, r o x a s Boulevard.

Aquino was one of the few aspirant poets who joined the nationwide search for the best in literary writing of the Philippine Graphic. According to him, the most important qualification to be part of the selection is to submit literary articles like essay, poetry, drama or novel about a certain issue.

With the continuous articles he passed, Aquino earned the Poet of the Year of Nick Joaquin Literary Awards which is one of the three major awards along with the Carlos

Palanca Award and Philippine Free Press.

Aquino explained that “Nick Joaqu in L i t e ra ry Awards o f Philippine Graphic is a poetry prize given to the author of the poem adjudged to the year’s best.”

Aquino said, “I know my poems”.

Likewise, in line with his success as a writer, Aquino will publish his third book of poems entitled “Like a shadow that only fits a figure of which it is not the shadow” probably this month or the following month.” His other two books which were already published were entitled Insamarkan and Ceasuras.

Advocates promote environmental protection, preservation in NORSU

IN ItS aIm to influence environmental awareness, several advocates coming from different parts of Negros oriental visited Negros oriental State University (NorSU), october 3, 2014.

Five advocacies were raised during the visit which include the Save Mt. Talinis, Share the Light-Share the Road, Grow your Own Food, Love a Child and the Prayer and Meditation.

Such visit in NORSU was part of the three-day journey of the advocates in spreading the said advocacies to the people of Negros Oriental. They used various eco-friendly vehicles like bicycles, skateboards and longboards in their road trips and journey all the way from Guihulngan to Bayawan.

Moreover, such activity was also conducted to welcome the great environmental advocates.

According to Bayawan advocate Atiliano Jude Cabangal,“We helped in providing an entry point for the arrival of the Bayawanon Hero Felcon “Tatay Felcon” Rivera who started long board to start the advocacy Share the Light, Share the Road.” Tatay Felcon travelled Visayas and Luzon by a long-board for seven (7) months.

The Accrediting Agency of Chartered Colleges and Universities in the Philippines (AACCUP), Inc. led by its Executive Director Dr. Manuel T. Corpus headed the Formal Survey Visit which will eventually qualify NORSU’s two leading academic programs for Level IV accreditation status, the highest status an academic program can achieve making it either a Center of Excellence or a Center of Development.

The formal survey visit started with the arrival of the accreditors on September 25 and briefing/ team meeting and team organization. The second day of the formal survey visit featured the Institutional Presentation given by NORSU President Dr. Don Vicente C. Real and the seminar proper headed by Dr. Armando Alviola and Dr. Glicerio

BSIT, BSCrim undergo Level III Phase 2 accreditation

Aside from the presence of the Executive Director of AACCUP, the other AACCUP accreditors of the BSIT and BSCrim programs are Dr. Fausto S. Hilario and Dr. Reynold B. Pattaui. Hilario is the Dean of the Institute of Computer Education of Bulacan State University while Pattaui is the Dean of the College of Criminal Justice Education of Cagayan State University.

In his message, AACCUP Executive Director Dr. Manuel T. Corpus admitted that only 33% of SUC who has undergone Level III accreditation passed while only less than 1% achieved Level IV status. Nevertheless, he said that he is happy for the efforts that NORSU has shown to achieve Level III accreditation status. He added that seeing NORSU reached the peak and achieve Level IV status is one of his ‘life missions’.

For somehow, they must also consider. They must look on the part of the students not just the institution itself. They must also weigh the studentry advantages and disadvantages on re-opening the subject/s. Because, what if that RETAKER will bring victory to the

school? What if that RETAKER will be a Topnotcher in a specific field? See? It’s just a matter of giving chances to those persons because we definitely deserve it. In fact, we can’t predict the future.

But because our parents taught us the value of veneration, still, we respect whatever their decision is. We know that even if it hurts, God has a purpose why He made us like

this. Well, to my dear colleagues and of course to the ones who can relate to my column?
