PRESIDENT'S ANNIVERSARY MESSAGE

Dear Friends:

September marked an extraordinary milestone for the museum and our communities as they gathered to celebrate the first anniversary of this landmark institution. The Amber Ball Gala ceremonies were graced by Her Honour Lois Mitchell, Lt. Governor of Alberta and His Honour Douglas Mitchell. Also present were museum advisors John Geiger, President & CEO of the Royal Canadian Geographic Society, Dr. David Skelly, Director of the Yale Peabody Museum of Natural History and Alberta Minister for Energy, Hon'ble Marg McQuaig Boyd who read a message from Premiere Hon'ble Rachel Notley.

While Jim Cuddy Trio and Groove N Tonic regaled the evening entertainment with stellar music performances, guests joined in supporting the museum with active engagement in Silent Auction as well as the Audi Raffle. Wes Kaban, the Managing Director of GP Auto Group surprised everyone with a generous check in support of the museum!

The museum launched its first anniversary bilingual book titled A Canadian Landmark with messages from the Lt. Governor and the Alberta Minister for Tourism and Culture, Hon'ble Ricardo Miranda. Margaret Trudeau made a surprise visit to the museum in conjunction with the Grey Matters conference with over 270 delegates and first nations dance troupes that performed for an hour at the Aykroyd Family Theatre.

Museum Partners with Alberta Conservation

The Philip J. Currie Dinosaur Museum inked a deal to partner with the Alberta Conservation Association (ACA), a science based organization dedicated to preserving and keeping in harmonic balance the fish, wildlife and habitat resources of the province for the future benefit of all. ACA will take up residence in the front wing of the museum to better exercise their mandate to teach and share what they learn with the general public, including information from large multi-year studies and children's events such as Kids Can Catch. ACA also provides research and community grants. To date, approximately $15.4 million has been granted to 970 conservation-related projects throughout the province. According to Todd Zimmerling, President and CEO of ACA, "Alberta's outdoor heritage and future is connected to conservation, science and education. Alberta Conservation Association is excited about the possibility of partnering with the Phillip J. Currie Dinosaur Museum to merge the story of wildlife from our past with the story of wildlife of the present. I think it can be an extremely beneficial partnership."
