Now in its 17th year, National Walk Safely to School Day is an annual event when all Primary School children are encouraged

to walk to school safely. It is a Community event seeking to promote Road Safety, Health and the Environment. The event is

held throughout Australia on Friday 20th May. Our children can participate by meeting at Kristy Grainger’s house by 8.30am

to walk to school together.

Cessnock School Horse Sports Day Cessnock School Horse Sports Day in on Friday 10th June. Entries close Monday 23rd May to Vacy School. Riders need to be 8years and over. If you are interested in participating in this day please see Mrs Rogers.

Premier’s Reading Challenge Update The Premier’s Reading Challenge is well under way in our K-2 rooms and the 3-6 children are being

encouraged to borrow books form the library to add to their reading record. Just a few things to

remember.

The K-2 children will complete this in class with their teachers. 3 to 6 need to enter their books

themselves. I have included below information on how to do this. I am also happy to help children if

there are any issues.

Also be aware that books from September 2015 onwards can be entered. Most of the Year 3 students only need one more

year of reading to receive their gold certificate. Last year Amy Magri qualified for our first ever Platinum award. This

recognises 7 years of challenge completion. Also any child who enters every year for Years 3 to 9 qualifies for a medal in

recognition of their efforts.

Please remember that if your child enters books, their name will be published in the honour roll in the National

newspaper. We will not enter any students who do not have permission to have their name or photo in the media. Please

see me if there are any issues with this.

Happy reading!

Mrs Greaves PRC co-ordinator

A link to the Premier’s Reading Challenge website can be found in the Student Portal (http://student.det.nsw.edu.au) under

the Learning section. Students are also able to add a link to the PRC in the My Link List section to make the PRC easier to find.

The URL to use is http://online.det.nsw.edu.au/prc.

Public school students can also log in directly to the PRC website (http://online.det.nsw.edu.au/prc) using their Department

of Education (DoE) username and password. These are the same details a student would use to access the Student Portal

(https://student.det.nsw.edu.au/) and the computer network at school. If you are unaware of our username and/or

password, please contact your class teacher and ask for your Student Portal username and/or password.

Our official Facebook page is up and running. Please 'like' the page to stay up-to-date with

reminders and events in our school. We also love sharing the successes of our students."

Canteen News It’s not often that the words healthy and hamburgers are used together. Lucky for us on our menu they are! Our Works and

Cheese Burger have been rated “green” by the Healthy Kids Association. Both burgers have beef patties made for us by Pater-

son Butchery, Lite Coon cheese, and if ordering a works burger fresh lettuce, carrot, tomato, beetroot and cucumber from our

local IGA. Priced at $4 the Works Burger certainly is great value and filling as well. For a totally “green” lunch meal combine a

burger with any drink and a Juicy Tube ice block and you can be sure that your child is filling up on a Healthy Kids Association

“Green” meal. A healthy canteen treat that is tasty as well.

Our volunteers this week were Heidi, Cassie and Angela. Thank you for your time in the canteen. I hope you enjoyed your

day.

Have a lovely week. Emma Maslen

Zone Cross Country Once again, Vacy Public School students have represented their school with pride as they competed at the Zone Cross Country Carnival. This is a big event with sometimes over 80 competitors in one age division! All students hit the field with a drive to beat their personal best and were willing to give it a go. Congratulations to Ethan Preston who came 6th place and is off to Regionals. We wish him all the best. A special mention to Mackenzie Peirce (7th place) and Charlotte Rienecker (8th place) who are reserves for the Maitland Regional team. What a great result!

Thank you to the parents who either arrived early or stayed late to help with the set-up/pack-up of equipment. Many hands make light work, and it is truly appreciated!

Hunter Dance Festival We received some fantastic news for our dance groups yesterday... Both senior and junior dance groups have successfully auditioned for Hunter Schools Dance Festival! This is a fantastic opportunity for our students who get the experience of performing on stage in front of a large audience. They really get a buzz out of sharing their talents. There is also some great news for parents, as both senior and junior groups are performing on the same night! They will be performing on Wednesday 27 July. Please keep an eye out over the next few weeks for notes regarding costume costs and requirements.

Touch Football Knockout Our girls and boys touch football teams will be versing Dungog Public School this Wednesday 18. The boys game will start at 10:00am on the bottom oval. The girl's game will follow straight after. Parents are more than welcome to come and support our teams. Players are reminded to wear joggers and bring a drink bottle.

School Photos 15 June 2016 Wednesday 15 June 2016 is school photo day. Each child has received a personalised photo envelope. The envelopes can be

returned to school for safe keeping by Tuesday 14 June, 2016 or children can return their envelopes on photo day and they

will be given directly to the photographer.

The photographers charge a $20 fee for late orders. Payments for all students in a family can be placed in the one envelope

but all envelopes need to be returned. Please ensure correct money is in the envelopes as they are handed unopened to the

photographers.

This year payments can be made on the photographer’s website. Envelopes still need to be returned to school though.

If paying by cheque please make cheques payable to Master School Portraits. If you would like a Family Portrait, please

collect a special envelope from the office.

If another envelope is required (eg mum’s copy or dad’s copy) please see the office.
