OUR FARM “TERMARY”
It was 8th
November, 2016. (Ash Friday).
My phone rang around 5.00pm – it was my daughter.“Dad, have you
heard about the fires at Willawarrin?” Twenty minutes later we received
the bad news that our farm had been destroyed by a fire storm. Hoping
against all hope that all would not be lost, we lived in anticipation. We
tried to drive up there several times but were repeatedly turned around,
roads blocked by fire and trees down everywhere.
After a few days we were informed that our good neighbour was found
deceased on our river road, he died trying to make it to the river, so the
heartache continues. We finally made it after about a week. We found
our bridge was burnt out so again we had to detour to get to our farm
gate. The police were waiting for us to get permission to investigate
Barry’s death. After they left, Mary and I were facing the realization
that all was lost – the house and all contents, the sheds, all our cars,
some tractors, motorbikes, quads, buses, fences, water tanks, etc. etc., the
list goes on and on. Our good friends Norm and Julie Wilson lost their
caravan along with 10 of ours.
We spent the next weeks coming and going to the property and
living at the Wallawarrin Hotel as there was nowhere to stay in the
ruins and we didn’t really know where to begin
They say there is always a light at the end of the tunnel and our
light was the NRVC! Thanks to Nev and Deb and many members, both
men and women, for coming up to help start with the cleanup. We
managed to clear our house slab and put a caravan there so we had
at least somewhere to sleep. The NRVC members worked tirelessly and
saved us at least 6 months’ work in one and a half days!
I will not embarrass the members by naming them but they all know
who they are and on behalf of Mary and myself, we would like to thank
them and we are eternally grateful for their help and support. We
would like also to thank our wonderful family of sons and daughters
and my brother for their involvement and help so far.
We will keep everyone informed on any progress in the future.
Cheers, From Terry and Mary

CHRISTMAS PARTY
This was the last Mid Week run for the NRVC, a fun filled Christmas event traditionally held at
Budgewoi Park, a top spot on the lake with plenty of cover and a cool breeze. We had 14 cars, 21
members leave Edgeworth Maccas at 9.30 am. We turned off at Edgeworth and rambled through
the countryside with Gary in the Mustang zooming along and us following, well that is until we got
to Budgewoi, where Gary was no where in sight, so of course the Datsun, BMW, Ford and the
Holden got lost, until finally the Holden saved the day when we turned around and followed him.
By the time we got to the park everyone was set up, the goodies were laid out on a red table cloth,
wines,
coffee, tea & drinks in hand. Rudy was setting up some games to play. No.1 was Ladder Golf, no.2
was Disc Bowls. A lot of laughter was happening and the winners according to Rudy were “All the
Cheats”. Lots of stories once more, while the boys cooked the BBQ that was supplied by the NRVC.
We all agreed that it was yummy, including desserts of trifle and chocolates etc. We had a homeless
person in the park so all of the above was shared. She was a very private person, so we just left her
alone to enjoy the food.

Now the Park’s loos had been painted with murals, which had a Native Theme, done by Margaret
Hislop. Loved it. Many of those birds were in the Park. A lovely pelican followed me while I was
taking photos, we had a great conversation. The rare and valuable Certificates were given to
Collene Kalb, Rudy & June Galea with thanks, Rudy was fishing for a photo. A big Thank you to
the members, but especially to Ruth & Gary for running the Mid Week Runs. If any member can
help or suggest a different or NEW Mid Week run, please contact Ruth.
The next Mid Week run will be announced at the February Meeting, Tuesday 4th February, 2020,
and will be held on Wednesday 19th February, 2020 leaving Edgeworth Maccas at 9.30am.
MERRY CHRISTMAS enjoy the Holidays
