“The project targets undergraduates enrolled at institutions that are members of the American Association of State Colleges and Universities (AASCU). The project grows out of a concern about decreasing rates of participation in the civic life of America in voting, in advocacy, in local grassroots associations, and in other forms of civic engagement that are necessary for the vitality of our democracy.” aascu (http://www.aascu.org/programs/index.htm)

On March 25, 2008 more than 50 University of North Florida students, staff, and faculty members participated in the first UNF Voices Forum. The forum addressed the question: “Who Holds the Power in American Democracy?” Issues related to the role of the individual in our representa-tive democracy were discussed. Guest speakers included Supervisor of Elections, Jerry Hol-land, and Assistant Professor of Political Science and Public Administration, Kyle Scott. The organizations that participated in the planning included Critical Minds, Project Affect, the Progressive Action Com-mittee, Americans for Informed Democracy, and Students Without Borders The purpose of the UNF Voices Forum is to bring students, faculty, staff, and community members together to critically discuss public issues.

WESTERN KENTUCKY UNIVERSITY WINS ONE CAMPAIGNE CHALLENGE! This ONE year, hundreds of school and more than 27,000 students raised their voices against poverty by entering the ONE Campus Challenge. Throughout the challenges' three stages, ONE rewarded campuses for their efforts. In January, at the beginning of phase 2, ONE flew representatives from the top 100 schools to D.C. for an elite three-day conference, and in February, at the start of phase 3, ONE pre-sented the top 10 schools with grants to fund their own poverty-fighting programs. In the end, ONE rewarded the school that proved that its students were the most creative and effective poverty fighters in the country; Western Kentucky emerged as that winner. According the judges of the ONE Campus Challenge, “Western Kentucky showed hustle and energy and engaged the entire community which was impres-sive. Western Kentucky was savvy and the fact that they were able to get, for example, 160 people to send letters in support of the Education For All Act, showed a lot of tangible advocacy.” (http://www.one.org/campus/blog/2008/04/09/who-won-the-campus-challenge/#more-256)
