The Newsletter from Narrabeen North Public School
Week 1, Term 1 Thursday, 30 January 2020
From the Principal’s Desk…
WELCOME BACK/KINDERGARTEN 2020
Welcome back to all families to a new school year. I
hope that you all had an enjoyable and relaxing
holiday.
A very special welcome to the new families who have
joined our school community in 2020.
The children settled in very quickly and smoothly into
their new classes.
This coming Monday we will welcome our new
Kindergarten students. There are six classes this year,
and it will be an exciting time as the children start
their first year of school.
Kindergarten parents are welcome to attend a
special morning tea provided by the P&C after they
have dropped their child off to school for the first
time. This will be in the dome building.
New families will also have the opportunity to learn
about the school and the different services provided
as well as meet familiar faces they will see around the
school.
NSW GOVERNMENT ADVICE – CORONAVIRUS
In the past week there has been important
information shared by NSW Health on the coronavirus.
The NSW Government released information for
students returning to school on Wednesday regarding
any travel to China during the past two weeks.
Any child who has visited China in this period is
requested to not attend school for 14 days after the
departure date.
If you require any further information please contact
the school on 9913 7928.
CLASS ORGANISATION
Yesterday children moved into their new classes for
2020. On current numbers, we will have 30 classes. It’s
important for parents to be aware that the school
confirms its enrolments with the Department of
Education in a couple of weeks.
This is to allow new enrolments to be placed and any
students who have left the school to be finalised.
Whilst we aim to avoid unnecessary movement, a
significant change in enrolment numbers may require
a structural change in some classes.
Therefore, classes for 2020 will not be confirmed until
this time.
Please note that careful consideration and planning
guides the process of placing students into classes;
therefore changes are unable to be made based on
parent requests.

REVISED STUDENT WELLBEING POLICY AND AWARDS
SYSTEM
One of the school’s strategic directions for the past
two years has focused on enhancing our Positive
Behaviour Engaging Learners (PBEL) framework which
is the basis of the school’s wellbeing program and is
supported by the Narra values.
A team of staff led by Miss Dickson and Mrs Clinton
has worked with teachers and parent and student
representatives to revise the previous framework
which was developed a number of years ago when
the school was smaller in size.
As part of the P&C meeting in October, the two
executive staff presented the revised framework and
the changes were met positively by those parents
attending.
Please see the information further in the newsletter.
STAFFING NEWS
This year we welcome new colleagues in permanent
and temporary teaching roles to the staff at
Narrabeen North. It is a pleasure to welcome Miss
Kekwick, Miss Hamilton, Miss Bolta, Mr Freeman, Mr
Morris, Mrs Woods and Mrs Fuchs.
For the school year, Mrs Graham and Mrs Murphy will
be on leave for 2020 along with Miss Russell for Term 1.
I would like to congratulate Miss Kerr and Ms Harris on
being the successful applicants in an open merit
staffing process at the end of 2019 and gaining a
permanent position on the Narrabeen North Public
School staff. Both teachers are very passionate and
committed colleagues who bring enthusiasm and
energy to our school. We are pleased to have both
teachers at NNPS!
HOURS OF SUPERVISION
A reminder to parents at the start of a new school
year, that children must not arrive at school prior to
8.30am unless they have a planned extra-curricular
activity.
Teachers are rostered on playground duty from
8.30am.
Once children have placed their bags outside the
classroom it is expected they move into the
playground until the bell rings at 9.00am.
At the conclusion of school at 3.00pm there is no
teacher supervision so consequently students need to
leave after the bell.
MEET THE TEACHER INFORMATION
On Monday, 10 February will be our ‘Meet the
Teacher’ sessions.
This provides an opportunity for parents to introduce

NNPS AWARDS SYSTEM FOR 2020
1. Most awards will be signed and presented by a
classroom teacher or at an assembly. Awards can
be taken home immediately. Please refer to class
teacher regarding NARRA Green collection.
Awards are valid for one year from date received.
2. Students will be responsible for the keeping and
caring of their awards. When they have reached
enough NARRA Greens or NARRA Golds for the
next level, students must present awards to their
classroom teacher.
3. When a Certificate of Achievement is due, the
classroom teacher will authorise the award and
the information will be given to the office to
arrange it. Certificates of Achievement will be
presented at stage assemblies. Parents will only
receive notification for the child’s first Certificate
of Achievement in Kindergarten and be invited to
that first presentation.
4. When a Narrabeen Gold Banner is due,
Certificates of Achievement need to be taken to
the office who will authorise the banner. Parents
will be notified and invited to Banner assemblies.
5. When a student has received six Narrabeen Gold
Banners, or the equivalent of one Banner per year
(for late arriving students), they need to be
brought to the office to record for a medallion at
presentation day in Year 6.
PSSA 2020 CHANGES
A decision was made by the Pittwater PSSA
committee, with the support of the principals, to
move our PSSA matches to the mornings in 2020.
There will still be the same sports and competitions
available to our students. The only change will be to
the time of day these games are played, so that
students are not out in the sun during the harshest
part of the day, and in line with Sun Smart programs.
Several games were cancelled last year due to
severe UV ratings.
Games will start at 9:30am and students will return to
school by 11:30am. Normal classes will resume after
this.
Trials for summer PSSA will begin in Week 1 and
continue over the next couple of weeks. Students
should listen for announcements as trials will be held
at lunchtime as well as the Friday sport time.
