The Newsletter from Narrabeen North Public School Week 11, Term 1 Thursday, 9 April 2020 From the Principals DeskEND OF TERM — THANK YOU The final day to Term 1 is usually such a special one for our school community as we have a few different events happening across the school. Firstly, we usually hold our Anzac Day service which is one of the most special days on our calendar. Each year we pay our respects to those servicemen and women who have served, and continue to serve, our nation. I will miss the respectful laying of the beautiful colour wreaths that are laid in the amphitheatre. Part of this day also welcomes many grandfriends to Narrabeen North to visit classrooms and spend time with their loved ones. The playground is usually filled with fun, laughter and kindness. I hope that at this time our much-loved grandparents are safe and well. We look forward to welcoming them later in the year to school. The Easter Hat Parade usually brings the term to an end as the amphitheatre is filled with kids wearing creative hats and showing their latest designs. The upcoming holidays creates a level of energy and excitement. Whilst no parade will be held, I hope our students enjoy Easter. For the past few weeks we have sought the support of the community to keep their child/ren at home in response to the developing COVID-19 situation. We know this has made family life quite different as you have guided learning from home as well as balanced the demands of living in a world with a very different lifestyle at present. Thank you for supporting all in our community by taking these steps. It has helped make a difference in reducing the risk to staff and students. We have valued your support. Teachers have been planning units of work and programs for Term 2 for the past couple of weeks. Further information on our operations for Term 2 will be provided to the school community after updates have been given to schools by the Department of Education. We do expect that we will start the new term as we are at present seeking your support from home. situation with a high level of professionalism and team effort as they have navigated a new way of teaching and learning. Every day I have seen them thinking about our students when designing lessons and creating new ways of learning. The teachers at Narrabeen North are also wives, husbands, partners, mothers, fathers and grandparents. Each of them is impacted by the current COVID-19 situation; however, they have fronted each day, worked together and embraced challenge as opportunity. From the front office staff to classroom teachers to support staff to the executive, each person has given above and beyond to care for your child. I thank them for the care they have shown to our students and each other. The upcoming holidays and Easter will be different to previous years. I hope that whatever you are able to do, it can be spent or shared with loved ones and that you all stay safe and well. Ryan Shepheard Principal STUDENTS SHOWCASING WORKING FROM HOME

EDUCATION CHANNEL FOR STUDENTS LEARNING FROM HOME

The ABC will expand television education lessons to help children learning at home during the COVID-19 pandemic, in a partnership with state and territory governments. The educational programs will run from 10.00am to 3.00pm on ABC ME from Tuesday, April 14 and will include shows such as:

Ecomaths ScienceXplosion Numberblocks English on the Go

Teacher-led sessions will be developed with the assistance of education departments, complementing 4,000 free videos and interactive resources. ABC managing director David Anderson said the national broadcaster was ready to launch the extra resources, in line with its charter requirement to broadcast programs of an educational nature. “With so many Australian children now studying at home or preparing to do so, the ABC is boosting its support for students, teachers and parents to help young Australians receive the education they need,” he said.

The Minister for Education and Early Learning, Sarah Mitchell, told ABC Radio that the TV education offerings would provide more options for parents “trying to juggle working from home and supervising their child’s learning”.

“We’ll be working with the ABC to give access to the educational materials we have for support around programming,” Ms Mitchell said.

“For parents, it gives them another option of something they can do with their child that they know is educational and coming from a really reliable source.”

Bee Well … Thank you for the support you have given the staff of NNPS and your amazing efforts in assisting your children as we navigate this, the most unusual and craziest of times. We realise how challenging this is for everyone. Further information on students will be shared next term. Please have the best possible staycation or holistay this Easter. Enjoy the time with family and please stay safe. Carpe diem Michelle Dickson Assistant Principal Wellbeing Team Leader
