THE NATIVITY OF THE LORD

(Readings: Isaiah 62:11-12 — Titus 3:4-7 — Luke 2:15-20 )

The Gift Of God’s Word — On this day of gifts and

gift-giving, it seems appropriate that we take a moment to

reflect on the great gift of God’s Word. Because it is creative,

God’s Word always points to its author, always calls us to respond. Because it is

powerful, God’s Word can link the sublime with the ridiculous, the transcendent with

the immanent, the divine with the human. Because it is graceful, God’s Word

establishes a relationship of deep intimacy between us and God. At the heart of God’s

Word lies a tantalizing tension between the mysterious and the mundane. In our

liturgical celebration, this unresolved tension both reveals the meaning of life for us

and calls us to respond, to act upon that meaning. Once accepted and opened, the gift

of God’s Word is a gift that keeps on giving and keeps on calling us to give in return. It

dares us to be like the gift-giver and to become gifts for others, not only at Christmas,

but at every moment of life.

“Let Your Light Shine”

Amidst the beau ful readings at the Christmas Masses is a

reading from a small New Testament le er from Saint Paul to

his protégé, Titus, read at Midnight Mass. Saint Paul reminds

Titus that God has given us a gi in the person of Jesus Christ.

This gi represents God’s ac ve presence in our lives and in

our world. This gi redeems us from evil and death. This gi

purifies us as God’s people. This is a gi that also comes with

an expecta on: that we receive it with thanksgiving, allow it

to transform us into Christ’s image; and from it, learn how to

live a life “eager to do what is good.” Take me the next few

days to reflect on the marvelous gi we celebrate at Christ-

mas, and how we might become be er stewards of this gi .

A LETTER FROM OUR PASTOR

Dear Parishioners, The annual return of the Christmas Holyday serves an important purpose

because it is a most useful reminder of key points of reference for our lives. First, we look back in history to that singular intervention of the Almighty. The

Word of God, the Second Person of the Most Blessed Trinity, was incarnated as one like us “in all things but sin.” His Good News and his ongoing presence in our lives in the Sacraments, especially the Eucharist, give us the guidelines and markers that we need to navigate our life’s journey here below.

Second, we profess every time we say our creed that “He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead.” The story of humankind on this planet has purpose and direction. We believe that Salvation History continues to unfold for us. This awareness gives us the hope, confidence and strength to bear the burdens of the day.

Third, the annual celebration of Christmas and Yuletide underscore the central role that family and home play in our lives. In this season, we are particularly aware of those loved ones who are absent because of distance or death. We reach out in love to those who are physically present as we carry out the Lord’s command to “love one another as I have loved you.” It is also the time to extend a helping hand to the needy stranger or the olive branch of peace and forgiveness to those folks alienated from us.

La Natividad del Señor (Navidad) EL DON DE LA PALABRA DE DIOS En este día de recibir y dar regalos, parece apropiado que tome-mos un momento para reflexionar sobre el gran don de la Palabra de Dios. La Palabra de Dios es creativa y por eso siempre apunta a su autor, siempre nos llama a responder. La Palabra de Dios es poderosa y puede enlazar lo sublime con lo ridículo, lo trascendente con lo in-manente, lo divino con lo humano. La Palabra de Dios es llena de gracia, establece una relación de intimidad profunda entre nosotros y Dios. En el corazón de la Palabra de Dios yace una tensión seductora entre lo misterioso y lo mundano. En nuestra celebración litúrgica, esta tensión sin resolución revela el signi-ficado de la vida para nosotros y también nos llama a responder para actuar según ese significado. Una vez que la aceptamos y la abrimos, el don de la Palabra de Dios es un regalo que sigue dando y sigue llamándonos a dar a cambio. Nos reta a ser como el dador de regalos y a convertirse en regalos para los de-más, no solo en Navidad, sino en cada momento de la vida. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

pezando después de la misa de las 8:30 de la mañana y terminando a las 9:00 de la noche con el grupo de oración. En la capilla en el

Centro de Bienvenida.

¡Invitamos a todos a que nos acompañen a vivir momentos de oración y recogimiento!

Estimados feligreses, El retorno anual de las fiestas de Navidad sirve un propósito importante porque es un útil recordatorio más de los puntos claves de referencia para nuestras vidas. Primero, miramos atrás en la historia a esa intervención singular del Todopoderoso. La Palabra de Dios, segunda Persona de la Santísima Trinidad, se encarnó como uno como nosotros "en todas las cosas excepto en el pecado". Su Buena Noticia y su continua presencia en nuestras vidas en los Sacramentos, especialmente la Eucaristía, nos dan las pautas y marcadores que necesitamos para navegar el viaje de nuestra vida aquí abajo. Segundo, profesamos cada vez que decimos nuestro credo que "Él vendrá de nuevo en la gloria para juzgar a los vivos y los muertos". La historia de la humanidad en este planeta tiene propósito y dirección. Creemos que la Historia de la Salvación continúa desarrollándose para nosotros. Esta conciencia nos da la esperanza, la confianza y la fuerza para soportar las cargas del día. En tercer lugar, la celebración anual de Navidad y Yuletide subrayan el papel central que desempe-ñan la familia y el hogar en nuestras vidas. En esta temporada, estamos particularmente conscientes de los seres queridos que están ausentes debido a la distancia o la muerte. Buscamos en amor a aquellos que están físicamente presentes mientras llevamos a cabo el mandamiento del Señor de "amarnos unos a otros como yo los he amado". También es el momento de extender una mano al necesitado extraño o la rama de la paz Y el perdón a esas personas alienadas de nosotros.
