MRS. BUSSEY

To Mrs. Bussey, who has devoted thirty-three

years of her I ife to planning and preparation

of meals fo r Aggie Me n and Aggie Belles, we

dedicate thi s annual. No words can express

our appreciat ion fo r the many hours that you

have to iled for us, but may thi s THE 1948

MU LERI DER represent the many thanks that

are yours.

As you timidly approached A&M, you

first saw the water tank Ii ke a hand beck

oning you onward. Days passed on, and

you were so glad that you had seen that

hand. As you leave Aggie Hill , you look

back to see the now more significant

hand bidding goodbye.

In the years to come, if you can thumb

through the pages of your 1948 MULE

RI DER and live again your days at A&M

from the moment when first you saw the

beckoning hand until it waved farewe ll,

we of the Staff wi 11 feel that our effo rts

have been well awarded .

Enough praise cannot be given our cheerleaders, who led the

FOOTBALL W inning five games wh ile losing two in the Arkansas Intercollegi

ate Conference, the Magnolia A. & M. Muleriders placed second to Tech and State Teachers who tied for the 1947 A. I.C. crown.

I n completing one of the best won-lost seasons in A. & M. history, the blue and gold 'R iders actually turned in a seasonal record of n ine wins, two defeats, and one t ie. The M uleriders opened the season in Lake Charles, Louisiana, where they defeated the always-tough McNeese Junior College Cowboys by a score of 6-0.

R eturning home the next week, A. & M. opened their string of A.I.C. til ts by defeating the Ouachita T igers by a score of 34-33, in perhaps the wildest game ever played in Columbia Stadium. T he next week the 'Riders won their second straigh t conference victory with a 30-0 decision over H endrix.

The "dream game" of 1947 A.I.C. was played in local Columbia Stadium the fourth week of the season when the Arkansas Tech Wonder Boys tangled with the M uleriders. T ech came out a 20-0 victor as Magnolia went down to its first defeat.

Next on the schedule for the Aggies was a non-conference tilt with Eastern Oklahoma A. & M. Recovering from the Tech defeat, the Muleriders easily took the Oklahomans by a 26-0 count. J ourneying to Arkadelphia the following week, the 'R iders won their Lhird A.I.C. victory with a 33-6 defeat of Henderson.

Filling the sixth and seventh slots on the Aggie schedule were

Pari , Texa , Junior College and Loui iana tate Northeast Center whom the Aggies subdued in hard-fought ball games by the scores of 12-6 and 19-7 respectively.

Returning Lo AI.C. competition the next week-end, A · M. wa up et by an under<log O zark's team by a score 12-7 on a muddy field. The week before Thanksgiving found the Arkansas College Highlanders going down to a 24-0 hellacing at the hand of the M uleriders.

In the seasonal finale with Ionticello A. · M. the 'Rider for the second straight year earned a clear-cut decision over their long-t ime riva ls, thi time by a 33-6 score.

Following a successful season the M uleriders accepted a bid to a post-season game at Lake Charles, Louisiana, the Cajun Bowl. H ere they met for the second time of the sea on the McNeese Cowboys. t the end of the game the score stood 0-0 ; the M uleriders of A · M. had completed one of the best seasons in the history o f the school.

The annual all-state team was picked at the close o[ the season and on it were found the names of seven M uleriders. Euel Davis, tackle and co-capta in , wa a unanimous choice for fir t team. those to be remembered, and remembered it will be, by those who fol

BASKETBALL The Magnolia A. & l\I. College M uleriders fini shed the 1947-48 basketball

season with a r ecord of ten wins and seve nteen defea ts. Although their wonlost record \\'as not outstanding, most of the team's supporters would agree that the season was perhaps one of the most successful ever.

In winning fi ve and losing· thirteen in the Arkansas Intercollegiate Conference, the Mulcriclers wound up in nin th place bu t provided the upse t of the conference season by defeating the previously undefeated and already crowned champions, Arkansas State T eachers near the close of the season .

Upon accepting an invitation to the Southeastern Junior College R egional Tournament, the i\ fuleriders journeyed to Lake Charles, Louisiana.
