We have had mostly stock Jeeps with aggressive tires run this trail & they were able to take the bypasses for the hard stuff.

RED ROCK CANYON Sep 12 8:00 AM—4:00 PM. Meet at Houghton & I-10 (Southwest corner). Run Leader: Tim Naylor (991-4155). Trail Rating: 4.0 (refer to ratings descriptions on the club website). Red Rock Canyon is near Benson. This is a hard trail—experienced drivers only.

GUNSIGHT PASS Sep 13 8:00 AM. Meet at McDonalds; I-19 & Sahuarita Road. Run Leader: Kevin Kennedy. Trail Rating: Not given. Lots of mines and good views. [NOTE: As of 8/29/15 this is not listed on the Club Calendar.]

TRAIL DUST DAYS IMPORTANT DATE Sep 15: You must register for TDD by this date to guaran-tee a t-shirt.

IRONWOOD FOREST NORTH OF SILVERBELL ROAD Sep 19 8:30 AM—2:30 PM. Meet at Circle K west of I-10 at the Marana Road exit. Run Leader: Tim Naylor (991-4155). Trail Rating 2.5. This is an easy run but difficult to navigate.

October 2015

TRAIL DUST DAYS Oct 9—11. See the club website for details.

DEER CREEK RANCH ADOPT-A-RANCH Oct 24 8:00 AM (with optional overnight). Meet at Houghton and I-10 on the SW corner. Run Leader: Rheal Tetreault (682-0273). Trail Rating: (not given). The group will travel to Willcox where we will stop for last-minute fuel or food. From there we will head to Bonita and then north to the Deer Creek turnoff.

Once we arrive at the primitive FS campground (no facilities) we will set up camp (for those staying overnight) and have lunch. The rancher will meet us and let us know what he needs us to work on.

We typically work for a couple of hours hauling rock into some road washouts. We use the club trailer to haul rock.

Bring some warm clothing and your camping gear if staying overnight. It can get chilly at the higher ele-vation. We will have a fire and enjoy the evening under the stars.

I want to work on the hill that goes down to the creek. Near the top of the hill there is a water bar that di-verts water off the road. We have made some repairs before and the water has worked around the fenc-ing and is starting to eat at the road. We also need to protect the water bar. Bring your gloves, wire cut-ters, shovels and lunch.

Have an idea for a run? Do you have an idea but don’t want to lead a trip, or you don’t know the route? Don’t worry! Just contact a Board member with your ideas. Please remember these trips usually are day trips which means to bring plenty of water.

The Rough Rider 8 August 2015

Charouleau Gap (8/15 - Paul Siskind) We had 20 trucks and about twenty five people show up for our Aug. 15th Charouleau Gap run. We met at Basha's in Catalina, signed in and left for the South to North trail beginning on Lago del Oro and ending in Oracle. Despite the large number of Jeeps

and many new members and guests our trip went smoothly and was uneventful until we stopped for lunch at the picnic table/waterfall obstacle. Tim Naylor made it over the far right side waterfall which is now challenging but doable. Mike Col-lins got bellied up in his JK and we had to winch him off. While winching attached to Mal-colm's Jeep the nylon winch cable snapped. After fixing it on the second attempt the side pressure of the winch slid Malcolm's Jeep sideways and popped the bead off the wheel. It was up against a big rock which made it hard

to re-seat but one of our members had one of the new inflatable jack bags and we were able to get the wheel up high enough to pop the bead back on and finish winching Mike off the rocks. Farther down the trail we came to the long uphill ob-stacle with the deep v-grooves and many Jeeps came up it with me rather than going up the bypass. One yellow Jeep (Noah?) got caught in the groove and went sideways trying to get out. He wound up vertical and aimed at a tree but we managed to winch him back and out before he rolled over. Everyone made it to the Oracle end without breakage and headed home by about 3:30 which was a good transit time considering the number of participants.

Editor’s Corner

*sigh* Last month, I ended my column with this: “Who knows? I might even get a “Members’ Anniversaries” list ready for next month, too!”

Alas, it didn’t happen—again. Tim sent me a list of the folks who’ve been voted in since Dec ‘13, and I have some older information (from, I think, ‘04), but there’s just too much missing. So today (8/30) I sent out an email to the Yahoo! list, asking for y’all to please give me whatever information you’re comfortable sharing in public. If you would please return that information to me, I’ll get the member recognition lists going. I promise!

Kevin was kind enough to recognize my work as Editor at the last meeting, but in reality the most important parts of this newsletter (IMO, anyway) are the run reports and ac-companying photos. I could put pages and pages of great pics in the Rough Rider every month, but then it would be horrendously big and would take forever to load on your computer. I hope that I’ve been picking good representatives from the shots you put up (or give to Tim for him to put up) on the website; sometimes it’s really hard to choose just 3 or 4 to keep the run write-ups to one page.

Speaking of write-ups, I hope you’ll work on getting those to me in a timely manner. We had three runs this month, and even though I sent out a reminder a couple of days ago (8/28, to be exact), two of the run leaders failed / declined to give me anything to publish. Sometimes I make things up, but other times (like this month) I simply record that fact and let the pictures speak for themselves.

For those of you who *do* provide write-ups, THANK YOU! For those of you who don’t, or haven’t, please take this as the requisite lash with a wet noodle. I expect better from you, at least most of the time.. (Hey, nobody’s perfect, even yer ol’ editor!)

But seriously, please make the write-up a part of the run, just like the roster and the announcements.

**********

The JeepMonster is still under construction. Robert and I finally came up with a way to move the Magic Box farther away from the rocks, and the back 2 axles are now at Tuc-son Differential for some rearranging and reassembly. Rob-ert has the CJ-6 tub and is working on the custom body. I’m busy trying to figure out how I’m going to pay for it all.

**********

The September NL will be late. I’ll be at the meeting, but have a weeklong trip to Utah scheduled for the following weekend. I’ll be totally out of touch for 5 days. YAY! I’ll put the NL together when I get back.
